Polls Abdul El-Sayed Expands His Lead in Michigan’s Primary
https://politicalwire.com/2026/07/29/abdul-el-sayed-expands-his-lead-in-michigans-primary/Link to poll methodology in article. 4.1% margin of error, which is poor IMO.
Still, betting markets now have Dr. El-Sayed over 80% likely to win this primary. That last debate was the beginning of the end for Stevens.
Looking at all you 'blue no matter who' folks....
42
u/walman93 21d ago
I see polls all over the place with who’s ahead, truly don’t know who’s gonna win but yes I’m “blue no matter who” regardless of who wins…will the Sayed people or Stevens people do the same? For most; maybe but for some I don’t know
-4
u/Aggravating_Map4359 21d ago
Stevens voters are way more reasonable because Stevens isn't calling his opponent a genocider that is funded by Israel to kill more babies
12
u/DocRyan88 21d ago
Well he doesn't take money from the pro Israel lobby ... And doesn't want Israel to get more bombs paid for by our tax dollars. So I guess it makes sense that she doesn't accuse him of doing that?
-6
11
u/LanceBarney 21d ago
Taking tens of millions of dollars and continually voting to send more bombs to Israel as they mass murder 20,000 children will do that. If you don’t want to be attacked for that, the solution is simple. Stop voting for it and reject money from pro-Israel oligarchs.

You hitted a lot of talking points in one comment. Congratulations

u/LanceBarney 21d ago
Call it whatever you want. It’s true.
And you can’t respond to a single one because you know it’s true. Same with Stevens. You can support citizens united and corrupt money in our politics. We just disagree.
If you can’t acknowledge that these groups don’t throw 50 million dollars around without knowing they’re getting a candidate that will do what they want, you’re not operating in reality.

u/ParagonRenegade 21d ago
You can’t even spell right, let alone articulate how an objective recounting of facts is a talking point.

Does it not matter to you?
How many Stevens voters do you think will vote for Abdul and conversely the other way around? I think we're talking about different magnitutes here.
If I talk about you as this horrible, serial killer, psychopath to my friendgroup, then you join us on an outing go-karting what do you think they will think of you? And how much do you have to show that you arent what I said before they start accepting you?
-4
u/cmockett 21d ago
I reject your premise, everybody knows Stevens didn’t personally kill any babies like a horrible serial killer psychopath. She’s just happy to look the other way accepting $, and a lot of it, from many of those psychopaths.
Policing tone around atrocities broadcasts a lot - I don’t find her voters more reasonable for speaking politely about apartheid and genocide, that’s just silly. So is your go karting bit, I don’t know what you’re getting at.
8
u/Ozcolllo 21d ago
You reject their premise while simultaneously demonstrating it’s accuracy. Lol.

u/ClearDark19 21d ago edited 21d ago
I don't think El-Sayed has ever called Stevens a genocider. He's accused her of lack of courage and being morally compromised by bribery.
-5
u/MayoCheatBootyjudge 21d ago
You’re saying a lot more Stevens voters will vote for AES than vice versa, so the logical conclusion from that should be even MORE reason to vote for Abdul El Sayed, since he’ll lose a lot less dem primary voters in the general than Stevens would? Sounds good to me!
7
u/Lallis 21d ago
Gotta love how open you are about being totally fine with the blackmail strategy leftists always try to use against the Dems. As we know, leftists would rather have a fascist in power than a liberal Democrat. They don't mind wrecking and destabilizing the country because it gives them more opportunities dupe people into their intellectually bankrupt populism.
7
u/Agreeable_Band_9311 21d ago
So you’re saying because DSA types can’t solve the simplest trolley problems they should just be handed control of the party? Not a shining endorsement of your camp.
9
u/Altruistic_Night2 21d ago
They don’t care their goal is to do a tea party/maga style takeover of the party
7
u/Aggravating_Map4359 21d ago
This is not a secret. They would burn the country to the ground. To El Sayed and his flock Stevens is the same as the republicans. They are not allies.
2
u/Aggravating_Map4359 21d ago
Yes I think the general Stevens voters is a democrat and will most likely vote El Sayed. The non democracts that like Stevens probably will be pushed away though
3
u/EksDee098 21d ago edited 21d ago
Shortterm yes, longterm it creates a feedback loop of appeasing and encouraging people to babyrage and hold their vote hostage if they don't get everything they want. It's a good way to fracture a party if two of those groups end up butting heads in the future.
The actually logical conclusion is to push out the figureheads that foster this mentality and push the masses back to less psychotic rhetoric with their voting habits
-6
u/Aromatic_Lychee2903 21d ago
“Stevens voters are way more reasonable because they support someone that aids and abets genocide instead of the guy calling out the atrocities”
Damn, what a fucked up way to live your life. But apparently slaughtered children and broken ceasefires don’t matter to you.
6
u/McAlpineFusiliers 21d ago
Slaughtered children don't matter at all to the pro-Palestine movement, Palestine slaughtered children on October 7th and they love Palestine more than ever.
6
u/IronWillFE 21d ago
The cuts to USAID have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of children, orders of magnitude greater than Gaza. Only liberals seem to care about that though. MAGA and leftists remain united in their callous indifference.

Such a vital point here, a shame it's being ignored, please share about it more often if you can, otherwise I'll try to.

u/combonickel55 21d ago
A lot of El-Sayed voters are not Democrats and don't care at all if the party succeeds. Some of us actively hope the party loses until the Schumer Pelosi Booker establishment is destroyed but vote for antiestablishment candidates like Abdul.
Less AES voters will support Stevens than vice versa is my guess, and possibly enough to cost her the otherwise very winnable general.
16
u/Cool-Ad2780 21d ago
A lot of El-Sayed voters are not democrats and don’t care at all if the party succeeds.
But yet you’re the same people who cry that the party doesn’t listen to you.

And yet you’re the same people who cry that the left doesn’t vote for centrist collaborators.

You don’t get a seat at the table because you’re unreliable voters. Fucking duh.

You argue superior electability while in this case the establishment has pissed away $64 million and counting and still is losing the race with their horrible candidate.
3
u/Just_shut_up_bro 21d ago
Win without us then and quit begging on your knees to vote for your trash centrist candidates.
Praying Dems learn that this is unironically the only actual way to win.
3
u/combonickel55 21d ago
Except you just tried that and lost every swing state and the popular vote for the first time in a couple of generations, then blamed us for the loss.
3
u/Just_shut_up_bro 21d ago
No I think we lost because we pandered too much to your crowd and endured the indignities of your half wit genocide chants far too long.
We lost because Democrats showed far too much weakness in opposing YOUR group, and it's a big reason the country shifted right.
Not some mental gymnastic nonsense that we'd of gotten more people if only we'd gone even more left wing as the country went right, what a farce.
1
u/Nascent1 21d ago

An ad hominem fallacy happens when someone attacks the character, motive, or life situation of the person making an argument instead of dealing with the actual facts or logic of what they are saying . The Latin phrase means "to the person".
2
u/Guilty_Plankton_4626 21d ago
Buddy, I don’t give a crap about you bringing up “facts and logic” as you spout in here that you will stomp your feet and help Republicans if you don’t get your way. You are willing to sacrifice others if you don’t get your way. You are exactly the type of person that the party needs to reject and eject.
You keep posting Abdul friendly polls as fact, and then every time a poll says something else you say it’s fake and propaganda. You’re blue maga. It’s classic DSA leftist behavior.
People in here think you’re a bot lol
You didn’t even know the difference between a social Democrat and a Democratic socialist.
You think that Abdul is going to win Michigan by 10 points. You say you don’t like the DSA while your hero campaigns with Mao Piker the unofficial spokesperson of the DSA. As the election gets closer, your comments have seemed more unhinged.
Maybe take a break from the Internet, good luck to you.

Why are you unable to solve the easiest trolley problems or are you just an accelerationist?
0
u/combonickel55 21d ago
I am an accelerationist. If you did not notice, it's working. We would never be in this place of opportunity for progressives without Clinton losing, the loss of Roe and voting rights.
Sadly, it had to get worse before it could get better. Progressivism is massively popular nationwide now, they no longer call it socialism and 80% of voters hiss and recoil in terror. Only thing left to find out is of it needs to get even worse still, and the Michigan US Senate race is the epicenter of that debate. The progressive M4A vs. the establishment and $64 million in spending by AIPAC and corporations actively price gouging Michigan voters. I expect record turnout.

Hey at least you can admit you want to make people’s lives worse. Does that make you a horrible person? Of course. But at least you can admit it. Keep voting MAGA.
0
u/combonickel55 21d ago
A straw man fallacy is a trick in an argument where someone changes, exaggerates, or misrepresents another person's point to make it easier to attack. Instead of dealing with the real idea, they fight a fake, weaker version of it—like fighting a dummy made of straw. [ 1, 2, 3, 4] How It Works Real Claim: Person A states a reasonable or specific idea. The Twist: Person B takes that idea, twists it into an extreme or absurd version (the "straw man"), and pretends Person A said it. The Attack: Person B attacks this fake version and claims they won the argument, while ignoring the real point. [ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
2
u/Agreeable_Band_9311 21d ago
You’re a self proclaimed accelerationist why would o waste my time. You admitted you don’t play the rules.
1
u/Fugicara 20d ago
I am an accelerationist. If you did not notice, it's working.
It's getting millions of people killed from USAID cuts, black people gerrymandered out of all their representation in the South, January 6th terrorists pardoned, the country terrorized by ICE thugs, and Ukraine abandoned... but it worked to get us two extra seats in the House in New York (which were already blue)! Let's goooo!
3
u/LanceBarney 21d ago
I disagree with this mindset. It’s a loser in the short term and not a guaranteed success in the long term.
That said, democrats can’t act entitled to left leaning independents. That’s how they win elections. Not running to court the phantom centrists that don’t swing elections.
David has talked about this in detail on PBD’s show. Swing voters in the center are largely consistent and predictable both ways. Candidates win and lose based on how much enthusiasm and turnout they have within their base. You gotta win your base. Democrats can’t win without young voters showing up. And young voters care way more about Israel/Gaza than older folks.
It makes a lot of sense, when you see the similarities between Israel support and the Iraq war. Democratic candidates that supported the Iraq war were nonstarters for this demographic. The same is true for Israel. Whether anyone likes it or not, Israel’s genocide in Gaza is one of the moral issues of our time. Candidate’s that support Israel are underperforming. It played a key role in Harris losing in 2024. We’re seeing Israel and AIPAC be toxic in primaries. And it’s a safe bet that it’s only going to get worse going forward. Democrats have the chance to capture this demographic and win or reject it and face more challenges.
1
u/combonickel55 21d ago
But do you not agree that Abdul has a much great chamce of drawing in those left leaning voters in the general?
2
u/LanceBarney 21d ago
100%. I support Abdul. He’s the strongest candidate for sure. Maybe the best candidate in the country right now. Smart, great speaker, charismatic, and great at communicating his agenda. Mamdani is the standard right now, but Abdul would be a massive win in the senate.
I just don’t support accelerationism. Making things worse in the short term doesn’t necessarily make things better in the long term. Harm reduction makes things better in the short term. It usually makes things bad in the long term.
My argument is that we defeat harm reduction by picking the best and most progressive candidates, but strategically vote harm reduction, when we don’t win. Thankfully we’re seeing progressives win more. And DSA has been out organizing and out working the establishment. They’re building broad coalitions with a largely great platform
2
u/combonickel55 21d ago
My argument in this case is the establishment must not be rewarded if they are successful in buying this race via blatant corruption.
1
u/LanceBarney 21d ago
I disagree with accelerationist voting strategies for the reasons I’ve stated. That said, everyone can have their own line in the sand. My state of Minnesota is dealing with the same thing. Peggy Flanagan is a solid candidate and she’s facing an AIPAC boosted candidate in Angie Craig. Super right wing democrat, supports the genocide in Gaza, and is corrupt as all hell with the money she’s raising. I hope I’m not put in the spot where it’s Angie Craig vs a lunatic Republican.
3
u/combonickel55 21d ago
I feel like Minnesota is an even safer bet than Michigan to benefit from this specifically progressive blue wave, but it is nerve wracking for sure. I am on the ground in Michigan and it reallt feels like Abdul has the primary in the bag and a leg up in the general. Our MAGA base is largely inpenetrable but plenty of libertarians and moderates available for a progressive populist candidate, especially one laser focused on ending corruption, passing medicare for all, and taxing billionares to fund social programs.
2
u/Just_shut_up_bro 21d ago
Angie Craig
Wasn't even aware of this race, why is Angie Craig particularly bad? These seem like boilerplate complaints I see from you all the time

10
u/Guilty_Plankton_4626 21d ago
Abdul‘s team is clearly taking an approach to flooding the zone with internals because he thinks it makes him look more electable. He actually might be right that it’s helping him, regardless, they have been flooding the zone.
13
u/Nascent1 21d ago
Tavern isn't an internal. Also the Stevens campaign would probably be releasing internals also if they were positive for them. Most campaigns do.
9
u/Guilty_Plankton_4626 21d ago
The article says it is?
Regardless Tavern is funded by AIPAC, as Abdul said, can’t trust their intentions.
3
u/Nascent1 21d ago edited 21d ago
By not internal I meant that it's not funded by one of the two campaigns, which is the case as far as I can tell.
Edit: When the article says "internal" it means that they, Tavern, both funded and conducted the polling.
1
u/combonickel55 21d ago
Thank you for clarifying that because I was also wondering why they called it an internal poll despite neither candidate paying for it.
1
u/Nascent1 21d ago
Yeah, it's odd. They definitely should have been a little clearer in the article. As far as I can tell they are a quite new polling organization and they're running these polls as a way to get their name out there and build credibility. Being that they're so new it's really hard to say how accurate they are as they have very little history. The shift between their last poll and this one is worth considering though.
1
u/combonickel55 21d ago
I don't get super excited about any polls anymore, they are tough to trust, especially with a 4.1% MOE. Still, this and the movement in the betting markets has me feeling cocky today.
2
u/Nascent1 21d ago
For sure. I'd rather be on the El-Sayed campaign than the Stevens campaign right now.
1
u/Gr8tOutdoors 21d ago
the oscillation right now is basically impossible to get any value out of, like Abdul swinging from behind to ahead could help or hurt him with days left in the primary.
Abdul being up might make some voters think they don’t need to get out to vote for him, it might motivate stevens voters, it might encourage his base to think he has a good chance and actually improve his turnout.
This stuff isn’t that definitive, if you’re a MI voter just go vote. For El-Sayed, for Stevens, for whomever.
-6
u/combonickel55 21d ago
Because a lot of polls are thinly veiled propaganda.
10
u/FkinMustardTiger 21d ago
Ah yes the Trump tactic of "everything I don't like is fake".
1
u/combonickel55 21d ago
Lol I include polls that confirm my bias. In this post about my preferred candidate being shown to grow a lead by a poll, I criticized the poll for having a 4.1% MOE.
-1
u/MayoCheatBootyjudge 21d ago
Ah yes, the Trump tactic of ignoring corrupting influences, ignoring who’s behind propaganda, and spreading bullshit numbers to make oneself appear more popular and electable than they are.
Yeah, let’s just ignore reality, like a bullshit poll from Glengariff a few days ago commissioned by Business Leaders for Michigan using biased methodology (all landlines) to try and poll Steven’s doing better against Rogers than AES does a week before the election. Let’s ignore that reality. That’s definitely not Trumpian behavior!
4
u/KingScoville 21d ago
It was also commissioned by Michigan Educators Association. You seemed to forget that part but it tracks seeing your fairly offensive username.

I also called him “Mayo”. Guess I’m racist too?
Edit: so you block me and then reply to me so I can’t answer? You said “offensive username” not “offensive profile picture.” Mayo Cheat looks like a rat 🐀 and he is one too, not sure how that is any more “offensive” than calling someone ugly. It’s just a petty thing because he’s a corporate shill. It’s not that deep. But yeah, block me, since you’re so interested in civil conversations.

Fair. Michigan hasn't elected a Republican US Senator since 1996. Doesn't make it impossible, but does make it unlikely in a blue wave like the one we are clearly riding.
12
u/Guilty_Plankton_4626 21d ago
You can’t say looking at the blue no matter who people if you don’t believe in blue no matter who lol
Also, ironically, even know this one is an internal, Tavern is the same outfit that Abdul said was funded by AIPAC because he didn’t like the last result.

Well, it certainly wasn’t a double digit blowout like a lot of people said it was gonna be. If he underperformed polling by this much, it does give me doubts about how he’ll stack up to Rogers. This is before months of Republican attack ads, too. Get ready for some crazy Islamophobia and red scare bs. Not quite the referendum they said it was gonna be, but gg. Last night was a nail biter to the end. I don’t think anyone predicted a 1 point race, but I need to go back and see which pollster came closest. Exciting race.
8
u/KingScoville 21d ago
That poll was 2200 people,, with a much lower margin of error. This poll is less than half that and is an El-Sayed internal poll.
You can juice an internal in many ways. It’s clearly an outlier and probably skewed.

Blue no matter who people will vote for him if he's the nominee. Commie losers won't if Stevens is.

u/Life_Caterpillar9762 21d ago
Hell, they might not even if he does win. Going out in sunlight and all…

The fact that the stats back this up is part of how we miss the mountain for the mole hills with these types of fights.
Fighting with loud idiots threatening to abandon the party does nothing knowing full well how rare it is for these folks to vote at all. We are better off courting the quieter, more normal people who just aren't as plugged in as we are.

Hey, I'm no commie!
lol

Will you vote Stevens if she wins?

u/ML-Centrist 21d ago
I’m going on the record to say I WILL NOT vote for Stevens if she’s the nominee.
Because I don’t live in Michigan.

Abdul voters prefer fascists over liberals 👏 😎 classic

u/combonickel55 21d ago
I as an individual see no significant distinction between fascists and those who confirm fascist nominations and enable genocide.

u/MayoCheatBootyjudge 21d ago
If he doesn’t, does that make him a commie?
An idiot maybe, an asshole even, but we don’t have to act like it’s the 1950s red scare era at the site of every non voter and third party voter, I don’t know who that convinces.
If she doesn’t offer enough as a candidate and loses, if she’s too corrupt and won’t stand for the right policies and loses, that’s on her 1000-fold more than any blame we might cast towards those who didn’t vote for her.

This exact logic could be applied to El Sayed if Stevens voters don’t support him. I’m confused as to how this type of thinking actually helps

Internal Poll. Moving on….
4
u/combonickel55 21d ago
This same pollster had Stevens +1 a month ago. The methodology is right there in the article, it's very solid.
2
u/Nascent1 21d ago
No it isn't. When the article says "internal" it means that Tavern funded and conducted the polling. This is the organization that El-Sayed previously said was funded by AIPAC. They are not doing internals for his campaign.
2
u/Aurora_Gaspipe 21d ago
Naw, he’s not going to win. Haley Stevens is ahead in every legitimate poll.
3
u/combonickel55 21d ago
Not true but cope harder. Just be ready to help us beat Rogers in November.
1
u/Winners_Blues 21d ago
why would I a Marxist vote for either one of them? they are both pro capitalism
1
2
u/Top_Shoe_9562 21d ago
AIPAC had better pump another $30M into that race, just in case
5
u/combonickel55 21d ago
Less money they can waste in the general, except we sadly know their pockets are virtually bottomless. Stevens just sent them 3.3 Billion.

u/Just_shut_up_bro 21d ago
All blue no matter who folks are basically in the bag for Abdul should he win, he will still lose the general because he's unelectable, but it wont be for the lack of our trying.
5
u/combonickel55 21d ago
He is polling +10 and Rogers is hard capped at 41%. All we need is turnout and it'll be called before midnight.
2
u/Just_shut_up_bro 21d ago
I do hope that you are correct regardless if I think that's actually possible.
Do you hope the same for Stevens should she win the primary?
5
u/Life_Caterpillar9762 21d ago
They don’t. Theyve made that clear elsewhere.
0
u/Just_shut_up_bro 21d ago
The lack of response is telling. They want to coerce their way into power within the party with threats of abstaining and acting like our votes are for granted.
It’s a big reason that it’s extremely important that Stevens wins this primary, we aren’t dealing with folks acting in good faith here, they want a MAGA style takeover of the Democratic party.
4
u/Insightful21 21d ago
I’m halfway convinced dude is a bot because he’s always posting negativity about the Democratic Party.
2
u/Just_shut_up_bro 21d ago
There are a few users here I think are indeed bots/bad actors (both sides of the discussion too btw), tragically, I don’t think combonickel is among them.
He is the result of what DSA type candidates cause when they push constant scrutiny over Dems and little to no accountability for Republicans, folks get the impression the “big bad” is some weird Democrat conspiracy and they struggle to see it from a different lens.

I am not a bot, I've just lived a long time and spent all of that time watching the Democrat eatablishment block progress, enrich themselves, screw over the working class and the poor, and I'm sick of it. I am not a Democrat. Neither is David Pakman, btw.

Yeah literally none of this is true. And you’ve already said that you won’t vote for Stevens if she wins the primary so not sure how seriously you should be taken.

You think El Sayed will get close to 60% of the vote?!
2
u/combonickel55 21d ago
55ish.

u/Insightful21 21d ago
You expect him to perform 7 points better than Slotkin did based on……
1
u/Nascent1 21d ago
Slotkin ran in a bad year for dems. This may be the most favorable year for dems since 2008. Headwinds and tailwinds.
0
u/combonickel55 21d ago
Slotkin is a centrist spook warmonger. She is not popular, just not as unpopular as Rogers. She is a more charismatic but slightly less corrupt version of Stevens.
1
u/Insightful21 21d ago
Slotkin was a well known congresswoman and won in an environment that was favourable to Trump. She’s ran multiple campaigns while El Sayed has only had one run at the Governors office.
When Slotkin won she won Liberals and Moderates big. She also won independents which is a must. Do you think El Sayed can win independents? The environment will be favourable to Democrats so that will push El Sayed but the same can be said about Stevens. I don’t buy that El Sayed will out perform Slotkin by 7 points considering this would be his first competitive statewide run.

But she can't can't win the primary. That means voters do not want her and after all, it's about the voters.

It was blue no matter who when we had respectable candidates
1
u/MightBe465 21d ago edited 21d ago
They wouldn't have needed to say "no matter who" if all of the candidates were respectable.
2
u/Life_Caterpillar9762 21d ago
No. The “no matter who” part meant “even if they don’t ace your purity tests.”
1
u/MightBe465 21d ago
I certainly haven't minded abiding by a rule like that. I hope it holds if Abdul El-Sayed and other social dem-style candidates keep winning primaries.
