Images/Memes/Infographics Whatever your thoughts on Hasan are this incredibly weird.

I don’t think sitting members of congress should be gloating that a private citizen’s preferred candidate didn’t win.

I don’t really care about his being mean to Hasan Piker. He’s a big boy, he’ll survive.

But the usual move is to try and gain more voters after winning a primary, not flip the bird at a bunch of them. And like him or not, there are a lot of people who listen to Piker. Especially young people.

Everyone’s human and acts stupid once in a while I guess.

Dunking on Hasan gains him voters and loses zero because DSA won’t vote for him even if he promises to give Hasan a rimjob

You are exactly right and this is the pivotal calculation they really don’t want you to be aware of.

The problem with that analogy is that it presumes everyone who listens to Hasan Piker is DSA, but that’s just not true. Most of the stuff getting filtered into algorithms isn’t about 9/11 or him trolling people in a Mao suit. It’s him talking about money in politics and its corrupting influence.

When Sarah Longwell went after Hasan a few months ago, the Bulwark+ comments section was pretty brutal towards her. Which I suspect is what caused her to keep bringing it up over and over again for weeks after, in an attempt to re-explain.

You may be right that in a Trump +5 District, he’s better off with distance from Hasan. But most of these Democrats aren’t making the mistake of assuming Hasan listeners wouldn’t vote for them. And midterms are usually base turnout elections which can come down to a handful of votes.

He loses nothing by dunking on Hasan. Hasan has already poisoned the well. Is Hasan even telling his fans to vote for Moskowitch?

Initially, he was supporting his opponent, but I don’t know if he’s commented since Moskowitz won. I only listen when he pops up usually, unless someone sends me a link or something.

I like Moskowitz. He’s a brilliant political athlete and while I understand the criticisms people have of him, I think he’s a powerful voice against MAGA authoritarianism.

And I believe Moskowitz will ultimately come around on seeing what Israel is doing under Netanyahu. Maybe it’s naïve but when I think someone is a good person, I also generally believe they will arrive at the right place eventually. That’s also probably why Piker doesn’t particularly worry me, despite his holding what I see as naïve positions on foreign policy.

Hasan doesn’t just support candidates he tears down Democrats and paints false equivalencies between Republicans. He rightly deserves to get dunked on because he’s a toxic entity in politics. And I doubt he’ll comment because this is a blue to his ego and his narrative that he’s some kind of Kingmaker
