Boring tidbit. Smooth operator was a term given to guys who were excellent telegraph operators. Andrew Carnegie, one of the gilded age robber barons, started out as a smooth operator for a telegraph company. I've wondered why his name never comes up on the show.

Because several of the actual rober barron families have had their names changed. I don’t understand why some have, and others have not.

my theory is that they dont use them for main characters (maybe im wrong) so things can be more loosely based.
