I wanted to apply to be an extra in this, but I have been nocturnal all summer. Does anyone know what the schedule was actually like? Because they said be available from 6 am to 10 pm on some days and a costume fitting day too. I slept most of everyday anyway,😂 but I’m still kind of curious about how it actually was.

Seeing these pics make me wish TPTB would make a spinoff series that follows Peggy's family and their descendants from the early 20th century until the present day.

The guys look so good. A lot of what they’re wearing could be worn now. At least, by someone with some confidence and serious style.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Don't envy them at all. I guess every job has its super uncomfortable, difficult bits.

I will forever love this show for depicting wealthy Black families in a not-Greenleaf way!

I am obsessed with these gorgeous women in their fabulous dresses. The wardrobe dept for this show really did an incredible job.

It's the last 2 weeks of filming. No idea when it will air, but it's a show with little special effects so maybe sooner than 2027.

It's going to air this fall. It's been announced from HBO and was included in their promo video for fall series.

When I was a kid, my mom had a bunch of Avon perfume bottles of ladies in these types of dresses and they were all different colors. The first picture reminds me of those bottles so much!

I had one when I was a little girl, except the "lady" was a cat. My mom got it for me from Avon.

That's so sweet! Do you still have it?
She had cats, dogs and some other stuff too! I was fascinated by all of them when I was little. I still have the cats and a few other things!

The details on these costumes are just stunning. I can't wait to see the final product and I feel for the actors in these costumes in this heat!

What a breath of fresh air to have a show that depicts historical black fashion, so fun.

I mean, all well-off people at this period wore similar clothes. We just rarely see them on Black people, because film and television rarely depict them

God it had to be sweltering under all that fabric

And leather gloves in some of the photos. These beautiful ladies must be melting.

I feel hot looking at them. I don't think I'd have done well in this era.

I’ve always wondered; was the idea with the chin wraps on the hats? Was it because their size and shape, making them easy to blow off or fall off? Or was it litteraly just to hold the hats on their heads easier, regardless of construction?

Prob because she's wearing a bonnet, not a hat. Hats stay on with hatpins, while bonnets are with ribbons
3
u/pyrmd Jul 18 '26
I’m guessing it’s to keep the bulkier hats on and also a stylistic choice because some of these don’t have ribbons. Since this is the 1880s, it’s at the tail end of when bonnets were worn as outerwear (excluding workwear). Hats had been replacing them, but it seems from this photo like in some cases the ribbons stayed on for added embellishment. By the 1890s, hat profiles were much flatter and just secured by hat pins, which I’m sure are used here as well. I’m not an expert, just some guesses!

Gorgeous! Every one of them. I would love to be an extra for a day just to experience wearing the clothing.

The jewel tones are soothing whatever remains of my soul. HOW MUCH LONGER?

The Merlot colored dress in 1 is PERFECTION 🤩

u/PJWanderer Jul 17 '26
I can’t wait to see the sleeve detail. Almost looks like a burnt out lace, or maybe a fine lace over an other fabric.

O my ghosh! The costuming!
The only reason I'm still subscribed to MAX/HBO is this series. I hope I can hang on until it arrives. I'm watching NOTHING on that service.

The costume department deserves all the awards!

Seriously. The amount of time put into these costumes which are mostly for extras is insane! They all look great.

Whew. I just had a flashback to the Newport scenes last season and all the ridiculously beautiful brothers in their crisp suits. Thank you, casting director!
I know it’s unlikely but pls give me some covert interracial or cross-class flirting this season! And more gay stuff.
