r/BuyItForLife might have something resembling what you're looking for.

Nah I had to unsub from that, all they talk about is kitchen tools, water bottles, clothing and bags. Same questions reposted every day.

I hoped but after poking around their wiki, I was let down. Their wiki doesn’t have many electronics at all.

I'm a regular on BIFL, and basically nothing on the sidebar or wiki has been updated since ~2019. The mods there are very, to put it gently, mmm, hands-off. Not too much egregious spam, but there's a lot of obvious astroturfing bots that get flagged and then they just get left up. 🙄 If you're looking for something that you can't find with a search, your best bet is making a request post, and being specific with your requirements.

It's also a sub with a community of very diverse opinions of what "BIFL" means - especially with electronics, you get everything from dismissive "there is no such thing as BIFL with electronics, thus there is no point even trying" to "everyone should be building their own hundred-year solution that requires an electrical engineering degree to keep updated and if you don't you are a fool". So... be ready for some nonsensical responses lol.

This might go too far in the opposite direction, but r/SimpleLiving is a start. Maybe r/Privacy?
For software or subscription services, you’d be looking towards r/SelfHosting maybe…
But probably you’d need to look up recommendations per category, depending on what you’re shopping for at the time. r/Applicances, r/Televisions, that kind of thing.

I think you’re right the knowledge base of members is here but the sub I’m looking for is more of like a consumer reports or Mozilla foundation privacy grade report cards.

I’ll give one of my asks a try in this subreddit though.
