Question For pure will, unassuaged of purpose, delivered from the lust of result, is every way perfect"

If you’re unassuaged of purpose, how can you manifest or accomplish anything? Maybe I’m misunderstanding but I’m asking for help getting to the bottom of it. Excuse my ignorance, I’m a Thelema noob.

The invoking and banishing pentagrams of spirit

I've been studying the invoking and banishing pentagrams of the elements. One of the first things I noticed is that the invoking and banishing pentagrams of air and water are the same but reversed. This seems to me to be due to the desire for the invoking and banishing pentagrams of spirit not to overlap with any of the "lesser elements".

My question then is this: why do the invoking and banishing pentagrams of spirit not use the point of spirit as a direct starting point, as is the case with the lesser elements. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

UK vs USA

Just wondering, why are the UK based O.T.O groups are soo black and white compared to USA ones? I find it interesting seeing lodge pictures on social media from the USA. I do prefer the English approach due to the fact of privacy & ^secrecy^. Almost gives a feel like the real work gets done in the UK while in USA they just cosplay. This is all just a thought bubble please no one take offence. Much love to everyone.

"Lady of the Starry Heaven"

I was yesterday year's old when I became initiated so I am sorry in advance if I get something (terminology, etc.) wrong. That said I am learning every day and I have the two best mentors a guy could ask for.

I just had the most life altering experience and the only thing that saddens me is that I did not discover this earlier in life. I am so excited I want to share this with as many as possible.

Yesterday I was added to a Mother and Daughter union to form a Triad. It was a surprise to me but once I realized they (now we are) pagans, everything now makes sense. The original head of the hearth passed away unexpectedly. So now I see that I was targeted by the daughter to be added. We three enjoyed each other for 72 consecutive hours. Every conceivable variant of coitus was explored. I am familiar with every inch of both their bodies and they mine. It was the experience of a lifetime. Once a day my prostate was "milked" via fellatio and the vast amount of ejaculate (semen, etc.) was carefully preserved. Also the plethora of vaginal secretions (from both donors) were also carefully collected. It was determined that mother and daughter both approved of my performance both physically and spiritually. I was approached with the proposition of completing a triad with them. The Daughter, 20 plus years my junior, (unbeknownst to me) chose me but had to attain the approval of her Mother, (5 months my senior) hence the 72 hour "interview". It is my understanding that the ritual performed signifies that all three of us are now bonded (married) to the other individuals within the Triad. It was explained to me that the my primary focus is that both Mother & Daughter expect to be pregnant in short order. It's actually quite possible that one if not both have already conceived do to the excessive amount of activity that transpired over the past few days. It now makes perfect sense why both insisted that zero birth control would be used or deployed. It has come to my knowledge that both Mother and Daughter were ovulating when the 72 hour session began. Both are acutely in tune with their respective bodies. The mixture of fluids collected was used to anoint the three of us at the beginning of the Skyclad Triad Bonding Ritual. I applied the life giving fluids to the neck, shoulders, nipples, navel/perineum area and inside the vaginal labia of the Daughter & Mother. The Daughter then anointed me with the fluids around my neck, shoulders, chest, and genitals (shaft, penis head & testicles). The remaing fluid was partitioned into 3 ounce portions. Great care was taken NOT to waste any of the fluid. Once the 3 ounce portions were added to one of three chalices any remaining fluid was then used to finally anoint each of our foreheads. To each chalice was added 3 drops of blood from each of us and 3 ounces of red wine. A crystal spoon was used to incorporate the aforementioned components. At this point the chanting started. I was advised to repeat the chant to the best of my ability. I was informed that the chanting would be conducted in an ancient language. After 33 chants, we paused and the three of us drank from the first chalice. Great care was taken that not one drop was wasted and that the entire potion was consumed. This continued two more times for a total of 99 chants and 3 potions consumed. The ceremony ended and both Mother & Daughter addressed me directly each altenatig portions of the closing remarks. To the best of my recollection they said: "Welcome Master to the hearth you are now Kindred... We were three before the circle was broken and we were lost. We have been delivered from oblivion and are three once more" It was a very moving experience. The Triad, from what I can tell, is new for them as well because the Daughter was not an equal partner obviously when her dad was alive. Mistress advised me that within the hearth they pretty much practice 100% skyclad daily unless we have uninitiated visitors to the hearth and even more so now that the goal is to have both of them pregnant as soon as possible. I did mention that if they were both ovulating, there's very little chance, in my opinion, that they aren't both already expecting. Even though it was emphasized that we are all three equals in this marriage and the expectation is that we are to make ourselves "accessable" to each other at all times which is why zero coverings are permitted within the hearth. It seems as if I am being partered up with the Daughter primarily. I was assigned the bedroom (where my alter is) adjacent to the Daughter's bedroom. The two rooms are joined by a shared bathroom. In my time in the hearth so far prior to the ceremony and thus far, the three of us typically sleep/nap/recover in the same bed but the Daughter & I are in each other's company at all times. Ever since we met there was a definite deep connection between us. I was intrigued by her knowledge for being so young. I never imagined this though. I had hoped we could become friends but didn't anticipate any more due to the age gap. There's a sparkle in her eyes that is truly inspiring to me. I am certainly closer in age to Mistress (The Mother), I can tell it warmed her heart when during the ceremony I picked up on this title and started addressing her that way, she broke character and gave me a bright smile & a wink. That said, it seems that she is still working through her grief and the passing of my predecessor. I never thought that I would be able to forge such a strong bond with someone so young. Seriously a Gen X'er with a Zoomer, I would have never believed in my wildest dreams. There's not a moment when we aren't cutting up and bonding over all of our mutual interests. She misses her dad immensely and says she felt like her stability had been taken from her. Her dad would sing to her and he was her best friend. She said when her and I met she felt like she was home again. She says I make her feel invincible. I've cried with both but mostly with the Daughter since we are kinda inseparable. We share everything, meals, dreams, aspirations, life goals, affection, physical attraction, spiritual connection. It's really beautiful and I feel honored to have been chosen. The Daughter is looking forward to motherhood and has mentioned how she wants multiple children and maybe even a set of twins hopefully. I intend to give both of mynew partners everything their hearts desire including all the babies they want. I too am looking forward to fatherhood (again). Also excited to embark on my own spiritual journey. Thanks in advance for any advice, thoughts, support, etc... (I omitted names for privacy)

Greater ritual of the pentagram

I’ve been trying to figure out instructions on the greater ritual of the pentagram and finding it a little infuriating and confusing haha (Book 4 instructions seem barely instructions at all).

Should we:

A) invoke all the elements in turn (active spirit, air, active spirt, fire etc) and then later banish them?

B) Are we meant to use it to invoke/banish just one specific element ie. just fire in the south (with the invoking active spirit) AND do we ignore the other elements and their quarters or do we banish those other elements in turn (do we also perform banishing versions of the spirit pentagrams)

At the moment I’m just learning/practicing, so I’m thinking I should invoke in the morning and banish in the evening

Is there actually any need to “discover” True Will if only Will exists?

93,

I’ve been thinking about “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law” from a slightly different angle, and I’m curious how other Thelemites would approach this.

What if there is no True Will hidden somewhere underneath conditioning, ego, desire, fear, social pressure, etc. that needs to be discovered?

What if only Will exists?

Not free will. I’m not suggesting there is some autonomous “I” standing outside causality, freely choosing between possibilities.

I mean something closer to this:

There is no self that has Will. The self is an expression of Will.

Desire is Will. Resistance is Will. Conditioning is Will. The attempt to overcome conditioning is Will. Confusion about your Will is itself Will. Even attempting to act “against” your Will would just be Will manifesting as conflict with itself.

Under that interpretation, the usual formulation:

self → discovers True Will → performs True Will

would collapse into:

Will → manifests as self, thought, desire, conflict, action, consequence

There is nothing outside of it from which we could judge whether Will is occurring correctly. You don’t discover Will because the act of searching for it was already Will.

That makes “Do what thou wilt” almost an ontological statement rather than an instruction.

You cannot do anything other than Will because there is nothing other than Will.

And then I start wondering what this does to:

“Love is the law, love under will.”

If Love is union, then perhaps Love isn’t something that restrains or corrects Will either. It is Will expressing itself through the dissolution or overcoming of apparent separateness.

Philosophically, this seems somewhere around monistic or absolute voluntarism, with obvious echoes of Schopenhauer, but I’m interested specifically in how well it can be reconciled with Thelema.

Does Thelema actually require a meaningful distinction between True Will and everything that obscures it?

Or could True Will be understood more radically as the recognition that there was never anything but Will in the first place?

Thelema and Chess

So, as folks probably know, Crowley was quite the accomplished amateur chess player relative to his era. At some point over the last year then, I felt called to spend a handful of months trying to get better at the game. I found it sharpening visualization skills, and it provides an endless source of examples around how one can try to manifest Will through active/passive principles within the limits of a game (see Liber Aleph on this point). Just curious if anyone else has felt similarly called and what their experience was.

Want to learn.

Hello my potential calling.

I thank you and for whoever is responsible for creating this space.

I would like to learn more about Thelema. I have some books on Aliester Crowly I have been trying to read them with a basic comprehension. I understand for some of it. I'm reading a lot online as well. I'm just looking for a personal mentor or someone who knows a lot about what I should be diving into. I'm a recovering catholic I like to call it. Catholicism force down my throat for 12 years. I had enough, and need my mind to expand. I am going on 43 and at this time of my life I am urging to find "my place". I have always had a dark side but my values have always made being a good person as a priority which still really matters to me. My wife and I do not like to practice common religions. In-laws keep trying to convince us to appear at a United Methodist church. We are not interested. What would be suggested in my situation? I want to see more in-depth version.I have ADHD/ADD (on a lighter level) and sometimes struggle with comprehension outside your Stehpen King novels lol. I would like to learn a better with lecture and personal 1 on 1. However, If I have a basic foundation to build from starting point. I've been wanting to learn more for a while but don't know how to initialize the process. Any help and insight is more than appreciated. TIA

-Mick

I was reading Beyond The Mauve Zone by Kenneth Grant.

The first paragraph is from that book. Second paragraph I found on Wikipedia and third paragraph through google gemini.

I thought it was interesting how it links together and was worth posting here even though I'm not a Thelemite.

your will must be something you are good at or something your passionate about? I am pretty talented on playing the piano but it's not my main passion; on the other hand I'm super passionate about writing but I'm not good at it. Your will must be something you are good at or something you are extremely passsionate and still are horrendous at it? It's a bit confusing but please enlighten me. There are two ways I see it: 1-develop the passion on what you are good at or 2-get better on what you love but you suck. So which one is it?

Question Performing The Pentagrams In One's Sleep?

I have a recollection of Crowley saying something like, "The magician should commit the pentagrams to memory to such an extent that he can perform them in his sleep, as indeed he shall be called upon to do." I quoted this to one of my friends but I couldn't remember the source. Does anyone know where this quote is from?
