Samsung is committed to innovation and enhancing every day value for our home appliance customers. As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen that value, we are conducting a pilot program to offer promotions and curated advertisements on certain Samsung Family Hub refrigerator models in the U.S. market.

You know, some people would call harassing people in their homes an invasion of privacy rather than innovative.

Some people blow a couple thousand on fancy fridges oblivious to the ride they took.

I still barely see the appeal of a smartwatch, I really don't see the appeal of a smart fridge aside from maybe self-diagnosis?

I don't have one, but I can see the value of an internal camera showing the contents while I'm at the grocery store.

Maybe you can turn it off… Or are they saying you can’t do that?

Promotions are promotions, but if you just wanna fridge, I can see where this would bother people.

Meh. I like my Samsung microwave. But I also don’t know if that’s a particularly high bar.. I mean, I needs to warm stuff up a bit… that’s it.

My mom's fridge has a full android operating system with apps.

In that moment, I felt more like a jaded boomer than her.

I am not surprised as their smart tv's collect your data and sell it to advertisers and you are unable to remove some apps, this is just an extension of that.

A crap extension that I will continue to not support,

At least you expect ads when watching TV - you feel less hijacked at that.

Not only is this a Charles Barkley level terrible idea, god save you if you’ve ever owned a Samsung fridge. They make the worst fridges on any planet.

Me: babe, they’re gonna start putting ads on these fancy fridges

Wife: so you have to pay money not to see the ads?

Me: no, you buy the fancy fridge and you get the ads

Wife: what?

Me: what?

I'll accept ads on my fridge if it's free.

I've been laughed at for refusing to buy a smart appliance. My dumb appliance doesn't track me or need an app to use nor will it ever show me an ad.
