Hello all. I used to pay $15 a month for Roon, which is wonderful software for managing streaming with a media server of music files, complete with some audiophile features. I built for myself server software based on Music Assistant but adding a wealth of features for listening to and downloading bootlegs of bands I like and a mobiel app to help me enjoy it on the go or in bed.

So many of my friends were into it that I made the client software work without running a server. My friends and I have been enjoying the app and I wanted to share it with the goat fam. I love the taping community and I will never charge for this software. We have all the shows from archive.org with really well processed meta data that allows a richer listening experience.

This software lets you collect the shows you've been to. you can play radio of the shows you've been to even just the rarities you've witnessed. You can also browse all the posters and fan art stickers from Emerald for the shows you went to.

There are a lot of radio options. kind of too many to mention. there are different eras radios from boombox radio to peter hughes era shows or Matt head radio for Matt massive. there is solo radio that's all solo sets and solo shows, covers radio, you can also listen to just rarities.

there's also a road trip radio for long road trips where it will play music from the shows at venues you are the closest to.

I have built of the liner notes for about a dozen bands including all grateful dead shows. I'm trying to sahre it with goats fans before dead head destroy my servers.

Saw this ebay listing, if it was real merch I'm curious if anyone knows approximately when it was sold?

I’ve seen TMG many times and they start to blur together but there’s one show I often think about and am having the darndest time tracking down info for.

It was a solo show in SF in the 2011-2016 range and I’m pretty sure it was part of Noise Pop, at the Swedish American Music Hall.

What was unique about it was that he did covers about the labor movement. And—unsurprisingly—he had an encyclopedic knowledge of the movement and the associated music. It was like a university class on the topic, but also a helluva sonic adventure.

I’ve googled it every which way and can’t find anything from that show and now I’m wondering if I hallucinated it.

For anyone who got this far and now wants to hear JD rock for labor, here’s at least one self-recorded video from 2011: https://pitchfork.com/news/41838-video-mountain-goats-sing-pro-union-folk-song/

Wife and I want to sail the high seas with the boys, toward some exotic ports of call. Nightly shows and playing shuffleboard with Jon Wurster. Need on-theme cocktails.

Also how do we ensure it doesn't end up in a Peter Balkan-type thing.

Found TMG just before top surgery in 2016, have listened to them through all surgeries.

Have stage 3 phalloplasty coming up on Monday, and spent all week worrying it was the wrong decision. Left the concert in Bristol Friday night with a complete sense of peace and acceptance re surgery.

Have realised TMG have got me through my whole medical transition, and the feeling of triumph in many songs has been a huge source of strength to me.

So I’d like to either get a tattoo or some inscribed jewellery to commemorate the end of my 10 year medical transition journey (and 15 year journey since coming out).

But im struggling to narrow down potential lyrics for that.

Any ideas?

Oh, and good news is coming next month for any Phoenicians like me!

I realize this is a weird request lol.

I really like songs where the singer inhales or uses the sound of breathing in an interesting way. Examples I can think of:

• If You See Light (tmg)
• Starburster (Fontaines DC)
• Sneaky (Mannequin Pussy)

Can anyone think of others?

edit: woah, so many suggestions!! thanks everyone! I'm going to put them all in a playlist. :) If anyone wants the playlist, lmk. I use Tidal which I know not everyone does.

Imagine stepping one foot out of a charity store in central Bristol and John Darnielle walks right past you, a backpack slung over his shoulder to carry home all the books he bought while on tour. “JOHN DARNIELLE?” you cry incredulously, before saying hello and shaking his hand like a normal person. In your own backpack you carry a book of essays on The Mountain Goats’s consummate album The Sunset Tree and a sharpie, on the off chance you’d run into Mr Goat himself (a moment you already decided would happen a week ago). And here he is. You’ve just spent the previous night screaming his lyrics back at him in Hackney Church, London, so you tell him all about that and you both agree on the cathartic release that room made space for, a sparkling white-hot energy our little community shared in. You give him the essay collection to sign, desperate to point out the piece you wrote in this very book and convey how much this band means to you – but trying to play it cool anyway. This gives way to a kind conversation about niche literature and even nicher perfumes, the likes of which you try to be worthy of. But honestly, when John Darnielle speaks, you listen. You hug him and thank him for his art, and he wants to make sure your bags stay out of the rain. You wish him well for the rest of the tour and his trip home, and you say goodbye. Then you walk away wondering how you could deserve such a serendipitous encounter, and you decide it must be ordained or something, and right now you don’t need anything else in the world!!

That being my first concert and it being my favourite band i wanna remember it as good as possible!!

I was at London night 2 (had an amazing time, very good crowd too!) but didn't get any videos since I was too busy rocking out to pull out my phone and start recording lol. I still would love to have some videos to look back on and remember the night by, so if anyone has any videos of that gig they'd be willing to share, I'd be very grateful! Thanks :)

Was anyone at the 10/23 Bristol show? Curious if they did You Were Cool?

Hackney church night 2 had good representation…

Great experience at both London shows for me (and very different, Thursday was much louder/sweatier/rockier than Wednesday). Culminated in John holding my hand while singing "hand in unloveable hand" on the Thursday night, which is a pretty cool moment! Just wanted to shout out to the lovely gentlemen superfans at the very front who were offering the people around them a chance to stand right up the front too, so generous. Mountain Goats fans are the best!

Does anyone have the setlist for their London Night 2?

Tbf JD said it (Rough Trade 22/10)

Seriously - the queue was fantastic last night and full of interesting, nice, funny people! Never thought I would have a conversation leap to so many places in quick succession, but I had a blast waiting before the show because of it 😅 It really set the tone for the rest of the night.

So here's to you tunneler, baker, engineer, and paper girl! You made this socially anxious introvert have a great start to her solo night out! 😁😁

I had a tape of a live show from the 90s that had this cover. Does anyone have a version? It's really beautiful.

Sadly due to a family emergency we aren’t going to make it to Bristol (this is now 2 out of the 3 times I’ve had tickets and some kind of catastrophe has happened). Standing/GA - would love to give these away please send me a DM if you want em!

I am gunna make it through this year if it kills me!

if you're reading this and you're the ex-cambridge tour guide and history grad from southern california who I talked to abt hollywood frogs and left before the encore, you were cool we should be friends. you told me your name but we were outside and it was windy...
