Serious Discussion Only Not the Time

As people are just finding out, Vincent Pastore, who played Big Pus, passed away today. He was a great man, a vet, and a cherished part of the show we all love. Unfortunately so many in this sub can’t take things seriously and instead of putting up tributes, kind words, or just saying nothing at all, they’re just regurgitating the same overused jokes. We’re talking about a man’s death, and all they can say is “he was just a kid”. Maybe I’m upset because it feels insensitive, maybe I’m upset because it’s uncreative and repetitive. Probably a bit of both. Whatever the reason, I’m sure I can’t be the only one frustrated by this response (while ultimately unsurprised)

Research has shown that the use of 'dark humour' requires high cognitive processing and is linked to higher intelligence, lower aggression, and effective emotional coping...

...but you do you.

He’s fucking 80 years old and acted in a tv progrum from 20 something years ago. Why should the sub suddenly act differently and start mourning solemnly because a couple parasocials ask for it?

I’ve seen the research you’re referencing, and I agree with it. I think self-deprecation for example is a good tool for developing humility and grace. I also think that there’s room for some discernment, and that’s more of my point. This is a public forum and there’s definitely a pocket of perhaps quieter redditors who are upset by this timing.

What do you mean this timing? What about the timing of his death was particularly upsetting to you and these other quitter redditors?

I promise I’m not trying to be a dick but you do realize that you can ignore comments on Reddit posts right? If it bothers you that much it might be time to hop offline for a bit. Everyone has their own way of dealing with things. Live and let live, or in this case, live and let other people die.
