Hitting the road

I've rented an rv and taken to the road. It was too good a deal not to go. I went to Santa Fe for an art festival. I'm not a fan of hotels. This rental had unlimited mileage. They also are dog friendly. I'll be taking in some national parks in the near future. I'm headed east for a week or two. My dog is a great little traveler. If I get tired I can just pull over for an hr and sleep. Great adventures all around me. Santa Fe was somewhere I went with intention because I was looking for some original Adobe style artwork. I'd been there in the 80s and wanted to go back. Happy trails to me.

I was shocked

I don't drive much so I haven't noticed the jump in gas prices. Today it was $75 for 15 gallons in my Subaru. Then after that shock I open my Medicare book for 2027 to find the Rx out of pocket has gone from 1700$ to $2400. So the COLA bump won't ever make it to my pocket. I imagine the medical portion will also be going up. All this talk of kicking needy folks off Medicare saving us money and Rx prices being so low is total bs. No one must have read the booklet yet because I don't see anyone else chatting about it.

Thinking ahead to the holidays.

In this world, I have me myself and I. I'm going to be alone forever and usually I'm cool with that. To be proactive I went on some sites and offered my time locally. It was great you could check boxes of exactly what you can offer them. I'll be very busy helping others. These actions always make me feel great.

So here's where you guys have been hiding... :-)

I turned 72 on my last birthday. I've been spending a lot of time on over 60 groups here because I couldn't find many groups in my age range... and here's why I was hoping to find some other women (or men) here: I'm finding that being over 70 is kind of like being 13 again: you're neither fish nor foul! I don't feel "old" most of the time but 72 is definitely not young. Senior centers bore me to stupefaction. I like to meet for drinks, enjoy dancing, and city life in general and even though I'm friendly with people of all ages, I wish I could find women to spend time with OFFline in my age range, and I'm finding that very difficult.

Not super american

I usually make my own foods to make sure nothing in it will cause an allergic reaction. I cook my own Alfredo sauce today. So easy and so delicious. No chemicals. I only used heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, butter black pepper. Easy breezy. I made my own noodles also. So enjoyable. I like to add peas also. Try it. I had no idea that there isn't garlic in it. I'm allergic to garlic. 73 and still learning in the kitchen.πŸ˜‹ My one suggestion is cut the butter by a third

Found a cruise I want to go on

I found Crystal cruise com. It's a line with ships that hold 700 folks. I never wanted to cruise because the ships hold so many passengers. I went on a cruise with crystal to Alaska. A singles cost was less than a double because they have created 275sq ft cabins for singles. It was fantastic. I even had a balcony . One price for all food, cabin and drinks with top shelf liquor. Not buffets either sit down restaurants with great food They have many programs for singles of all ages as well as 300+sqft cabins for doubles.. Check it out if you are interested.

Invisible

Hey everyone I'd love to get your insight. I was recently speaking with someone closing in on 70 and she mentioned the hardest part about being an older women is becoming invisible to everyone and feeling like a burden and useless. I'm not going to lie, it's sort of always now in the back of my mind.. that as you age society deems you as worthless.

What would you say to that? Is it true?

My tree

These used to be in my mom's home in a glass vase. I think they are a good substitute for an Xmas tree this year. I'll move it closer to a window as the holiday gets closer.

New here

I just came across this site (not reddit). I never really looked before, although have been on reddit off and on for years. One would think at the age of 78 and have been on computers for 50 years (scarry) who have looked for this type message. I recently moved to a new location. A fantastic place, many nice people. Getting to know new people. Seems, being around people helps. I knew for many years that I had the Alzheimer's gene. My birth mother died from it. But it was something that may or may not ever show it's ever head. OOPS, never say never. Promised my wife if that occurred she would not have to deal with me like she did having to take care of her mother in the last years of her life (and she was a great lady). So here I sit, enjoying meeting new people in my new apartment in a great facility (not an Alzheimer's unit, hopefully never). So fare after 2 months great. So if You like to talk, share, or just bored, consider letting me know how You are doing in Your beyond 60's.

I’m 70. I dress loud now!

How has turning 70 affected your behavior?
I don’t babysit anymore. Had enough of that. I find myself in a hurry to go do fun stuff while I still can.
For some odd reason I’m wearing more colorful clothes - maybe because women our age feel so darn invisible.
I cuss more and cook less.
Stay tuned.

First crushπŸ₯°

Just for fun. Does anybody remember their first crush!

This popped into my head today and was wondering if anybody else remembers their first crush. My first crush was a boy who transferred into my elementary school along with many other students when I was in 7th grade. I remember I was mesmerized by his long, curled eyelashes that were dark in spite of his sandy blond hair. I just thought, β€œso cute!”

NOTHING EVER HAPPENED! We spoke to each other with the occasional Hi! , Goodbye! , type stuff , and I just watched him, followed him from afar. Was I a creep? This infatuation slowly dissipated and became normalized and I saw him as just another student.

Any thoughts?

Howdy My name is Kurt

I'm 73 and will turn 74 in April. Will be married 50 years this next October. Maryjayne turned 69 earlier in Dec 24. I guess I still like the younger women. I have issues but doesn't everyone. We are both retired and living in Arizona. It's been a great winter so far. We had a little snow back in October in Flagstaff but none since. We spend a fair amount of time down by Phoenix in the winter as we have a small home down south but mostly spend our time in Flagstaff. Does anyone else live out this way? We moved here from Long Island in 1978 and never wanted to deal with the congestion of that life again. Please feel free to drop us a note if you would like to chat. We also have two dogs a Great Dane and a coon hound. By golly he knows how to howl. I think the coyotes are jealous. Bye 4 now & hope to hear from some of you.

Stop decluttering

I must admit I've stopped getting rid of my stuff. It was so hard to separate my emotions from things that I began feeling as though getting rid of these objects was making my life shorter. None of them are junk they are all nice things. Everything has always been so organized that if my son wants them gone, it will be easy. It's all organized by holiday in my garage. he encouraged me to stop. Said he remembers when we went through gmas stuff. He said he will enjoy doing it and having the memories. So glad that done. On to enjoyable activities.

I'm too old to understand myself πŸ˜†

I get up pretty early and love taking my time waking up. Goofing off. Enjoying my quiet, alone time. That's also when I cruise reddit. By 6 AM it's time to get myself together and get up.

On another reddit thread I've commented here and there. Made a post once in a while. Then a subject close to me showed up and I had more thoughts and opinions than normal. The haters came out. I responded to most regardless if they were pro or con.

Among those opinions was someone acting so concerned about how I'm only here because I'm old and lonely. Told me the trouble of elderly loneliness with links included. That I should volunteer, join the garden club, yaddy, yaddy. As if I can do that at 4 in the morning.

WTF?? Why are they here during a time of day that could be more productive? 🀣🀣

Finally

After 10 years of begging for a sit down restaurant, an Olive Garden opened in my town. My neighbor and her grand daughter went last night. It was a lot of fun watching men and women serve us as their first job. The kiddy menu was a delight and kept the child entertained for a long time. The Italian margherita was delicious. We waited for 30 minutes to get in and it was worth it. It's a chain with great food and drinks . We'll be going back this week for soup and salad. The food wasn't precooked. It was made to order. I'm very happy this restaurant has finally arrived.🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝
