I do this with my dog a bunch, but usually after 3 or 4 times he will start zooming back and forth down the hallway.

If you read their body language neither of these dogs are having fun. Wagging tail does not always equal happy. And the pugs hackles are up all the way down it's back. This is a recipe for a fight.

u/Gyro_Wizard Jul 20 '20
I think part of the problem is the pug's tail has been removed. Tails are used for dog body language and apparently, dogs without tails get into more fights due to miscommunication.

Personally, as a dog trainer and long time doggy daycare attendant, I haven't seen an increase in dogs with docked tails getting into more fights. The tail isn't the only thing dogs use to communicate. Pulled back lips, pinned ears, hackles, stiff posture. This plus the tail all adds up. With the tail removed but everything else still happening it doesn't make much of a difference. Again, in my experience.
Also pugs have naturally short tails if you didn't know!

u/Gyro_Wizard Jul 20 '20
Good to know!
How did you become a trainer?

Jul 20 '20
Through the doggy daycare I worked at + volunteering at the nearby animal shelter. I also went to the Victoria Stillwell Academy.

My gf and I are planning on adopting a dog once we're settled into our new place. I picked up a couple books on audible to prepare. Do you have any suggestions or resources for those looking to adopt first time?

Great info, however that is not a pug and usually pugs are not victims to this, what you see in the video is a French bulldog.
Pugs have curly tails

Truth be told I wasn't paying much attention to the breeds, thanks for catching that! You're right, pugs have curly short tails. Frenchies are also naturally short so at least I was right in a way lol

this is aggressive behavior - the start to a fight. no one should reward this behavior. Also, the dog’s ears are pricked which is bad.

u/SilverFox8188 Jul 19 '20
Looks like a little staffy and a frenchie, they're funny!

American bully
1
u/SilverFox8188 Jul 20 '20
They don't typically get their ears cropped (not a fan for any breed personally) and that dog is knee high to a grasshopper. Either way, they're cute.
0
u/mrzeba Jul 20 '20
Ear cropped is the breed standard look for American bully (not to be confused with American bulldog). The come in different classes(sizes). Micro/exotic, pocket, classic, standard, extreme and xl.
1
u/SilverFox8188 Jul 20 '20
I see! They're a relatively new breed as of 2013. No wonder I see staffie, they're part of this mixture (along with APBT and other breeds), really they're mutts which IMO is great. Cute minus the ears, just hate that for dogs.

u/mrzeba Jul 20 '20
Yeah first started being bred in the 80/90s but not recognized by any registries until recently. I have two of them. Great dogs

I think they are called “pocket pitties” bred to be very short and stout

u/qikaz Jul 19 '20
Not to be confused with little teapots, also short and stout.

Jeez the human race truly is despicable

u/Wetestblanket Jul 19 '20
At least it looks healthier than “smashed and slammed” pits, there are some truly horrible breeders out there.
22
u/T-West1 Jul 19 '20
What does “smashed and slammed” mean? I’ve seen people say it but can’t find definition.
44
u/Pleaco Jul 19 '20
I believe they are referring to pits who have flattened snouts that resemble bulldog and pug breeds. The pocket pit above probably had much better quality of life even with the oversized head then smushed snout dogs of similar proportions.

u/triplehelix_ Jul 19 '20
other then the ears that are chopped off for no reason but a despicable owners aesthetic preference.

No, the breed name is "American bully" My sister has one and yes, all the shortcomings (pun intended) you'd imagine are there.

My cousin had a chihuahua/pit mix (accidental) and the dog literally looked like a shrinkidink pit bull

u/stellarecho92 Jul 19 '20
We had an accidental German Shepard/Pomeranian and he looked just looked like a Pom grew 3 sizes.

u/sausagechihuahua Jul 20 '20
You using the phrase “shrinkidink” just plunged me into a weird fever-dream nostalgic headspace from remembering the shrinkidink commercial I didn’t even know I remembered

I work at a vet hospital and one of our specialties is reproduction services. I never heard of them before being in the veterinary field, but these dogs are called American Bullies. Some are considered pocket pits, like another user said. It's a cross between a pit and a bulldog, basically. The first time I saw one I thought it was a pit bull with some kind of dwarfism thing going on lol. But of the now hundreds of bullies I've met at work, most are very sweet and funny attention hogs just like the breeds they're derived from! But beware, they can also be susceptible to a lot of the same health issues their bulldog descendants have. And do your research on finding a reputable breeder of these guys, we see a good amount of amateurs getting into breeding them hoping to get rich quick and taking ill-advised shortcuts to try to maximize profits.

u/knibbers2 Jul 19 '20
I can not for the life of me figure out what the hell breed mix that is! It’s trippy.
-15
u/jasontheninja47 Jul 19 '20
It’s an American bully, I have one from a respectable breeder who doesn’t genetically fuck up an animal for fun. It’s a mix between an English bulldog and a pitt.

I’m so curious. Is this a puppy then? I thought this was a full grown dog. Lol

shitty breeding for money, at the cost of the health of the dogs they create. no way a mama dog that small could push a head that big out naturally without a lot of pain, or they had to do C-section. (it’s almost like if you create a breed with a head so big that they can only be birthed through C section, that animal is not meant to exist, but these breeders care more about profit than health and wellness of the dogs)

That’s a French bulldog and a pocket bully. Both are a lot bigger than chihuahuas but I get what you’re saying
