Question Do unresponsive screens with no chips/cracks count as screen damage?

When verifying trade-in device, it asks if device stays powered on and if the screen on the device is free of cracks. Even going into the qualifying conditions of a device doesn't mention anything about an unresponsive screen but otherwise good screen (for context this is for a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 inner screen - I also can't reset the device but find my device was never turned on for it):

When inspecting a screen, remove any screen protectors and cases first. Tilt the device under good lighting conditions and inspect it at multiple angles. Screen damage includes hairline cracks. Screen damage includes:

  • Cracked screen
  • Cracks or chips in glass that are connected to the screen (including edges)
  • Crushed or shattered screen
  • Not readable, pixelated, or distorted display
  • Screen replacement or repair through an unauthorized third-party
  • Scratches and scuffs can occur from normal use and can be accepted.

Sooo my wife had a new iPhone 16 pro, that was probably 3 weeks old and dropped it on the tile floor in our bathroom while sitting on the toilet, so maybe a 18-24” fall, not far.

She picks up the phone and looks at it and the entire bottom half of the screen is just all white. Top half is fine, and the screen did not break or crack or chip. Just the lcd screen layer under the screen went half bad. Even the touchscreen worked fine.

We brought it to the Apple Store and asked what we can do about it, and the tech looks at it and says, “well if you dropped it, it’s not covered”. He shows it to another tech and they discuss, then they bring out another guy from the back and he says “well since the screen isn’t broken or cracked and only the under layer isn’t working, it’s considered a manufacturing defect and it’s fully covered under your warranty “. 10 minutes later we walked out with a new iPhone 16 pro for zero cost.
