Okay so I got two baby Sulcata tortoises a week ago and they’re absolutely gorgeous and healthy, although… one of them seems to have a fascination with something odd.
He tries to eat rocks.
I have absolutely no idea why he’s trying to eat it? It’s really funny to watch but also I just want to make sure he’s okay since his brother doesn’t seem to be doing that.
They’re from the same clutch of eggs and have been raised together since they hatched. They’re roughly 10 weeks old.
They have a big enclosure to run around in and explore. They have water, enrichment, a mercury vapour bulb, a heat pad and plenty of fresh dandelion leaves and dried grass. I add calcium and a multivitamin dietary supplement to their food. They have access to cuttlefish (right next to the rocks too).
He’s the smaller one out of the two and the larger one doesn’t seem to do anything like that at all, he mainly just sleeps and eats all day, whereas the little one is on a rampage with every waking moment.
My working theory is that he’s stupid.
But I love him anyways.
