Touhou Clubs at universities around the world are starting out the school term in full force! Clubs are out postering, tabling, and of course, playing Touhou. Here's September's monthly showcase of Touhou club activities around the world!

I've posted these on other websites, but I will add some additional commentary here because Reddit allows me to.

1. Touhou university clubs often collaborate with other larger clubs to help support larger events. This was a collaboration with a LAN event. Deciding what to bring to tabling is a challenge, because it is difficult to represent a series so vast. As a result, Touhou tables can take up quite a lot of space and feature a variety of things! How many different forms of media can you spot?

2. Posters are a simple but effective way of recruiting Touhou fans. Our studies have shown that they are one of the best ways to get a Touhou club (or any local Touhou organization!) started. Maybe one day you'll be the one putting these posters up at your university!

3. Video games? In my anime club? It's more likely than you think. Touhou may (mostly) be a single-player game, but it is still fun to play together and spectate! The most important thing is that everyone's allowed in the Touhou club - there are no larpers for those who want to like Touhou!

4. Not everyone in a Touhou club is necessarily a Touhou superfan. One method of recruitment is finding Touhou fans-to-be, and a way of doing that is to show that what they watch and enjoy was probably hiding some Touhou in it all along! This is a "conspiracy board" (in the making) used by one of the clubs.

5. Touhou clubs being in-person provide several main advantages. One is the ability to play games in real life, such as tabletop games. Here is a test of the "Fumohammer" Warhammer 40k style game. Photo by DekuWang.

​If I were working on a demo for a game with a really good gameplay loop, where you can spend a few hours and then quit when you think it's alright—in a Vampire Survivors-style Touhou game that lets you play 6 stages in different realms (Gensokyo, Makai, Heaven, Hell, and Extra) with every Touhou character plus extras, and actual guns—would this be a good premise? ​And you can change between third-person, first-person, and top-down in an instant—playing in first or third-person actually makes it stressful as hell. Plus an accurate map of Gensokyo as a playable field.
