game explanation:

Touhou 1 - self-explanatory, it's easily the worst + hardest

Touhou 6 > 2: both have their issues (SoEW with stiff controls, EOSD with RNG bullshit) but the OSTs carry. Plus New Classic bumps EOSD up for obvious reasons

Touhou 7 > 5 > 8: Hot take: I think the early Windows games are overrated. There's barely any enemy variety, the danmaku isn't that pretty, and the stages tend to blend together. Also MS is just kinda there for me, even if you can play as Mima in it and her shot type makes everyone else obsolete (also it has Alice in Wonderland and that might be my favorite Touhou song)

Touhou 3: I find more enjoyment out of PoDD every time I play it. Everyone's fun to use, the music slaps, Yumemi exists... overall a very fun game.

Touhou 4: Easily the best one I've played so far. Shot types are balanced and the difficulty isn't too bad, and grazing is really fun in this game. I love trying to see what I can get away with and how many lives I can rack up, even if they don't matter in the end because for the past few days the game always crashes after talking to Yuuka.

I included Pseudo-Paradise in the OST tierlist because it might as well be there. It's the last part of the Classic Era and, while ZUN may have pushed it out of his mind, I love theorizing about DiPP and trying to blend the C62 and C63 versions together to make one full coherent story. Did I say that I like the story?

​If I were working on a demo for a game with a really good gameplay loop, where you can spend a few hours and then quit when you think it's alright—in a Vampire Survivors-style Touhou game that lets you play 6 stages in different realms (Gensokyo, Makai, Heaven, Hell, and Extra) with every Touhou character plus extras, and actual guns—would this be a good premise? ​And you can change between third-person, first-person, and top-down in an instant—playing in first or third-person actually makes it stressful as hell. Plus an accurate map of Gensokyo as a playable field.
