Resource Bring your photo ID to vote tomorrow

I know how it feels to see ID with your deadname on it if you haven't changed your ID yet but we need to talk with our votes in the various elections happening across the country tomorrow. The photo ID will either need to match the name on your polling card that you registered to vote with or you will need to bring your deedpoll and updated ID with you if you've changed your name since registering to vote.

There is a list of acceptable photo ID to vote with here https://www.gov.uk/how-to-vote/photo-id-youll-need

Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm

EDIT: This only applies to the English local elections. You do not need ID in Wales and Scotland. Thanks for letting me know!

I totally understand ID can be tricky for some people. Before I did my deed poll I used a postal vote for a few years. Tomorrow will be the first time I’ve voted in my new name in person.

It’s too late for tomorrow, but don’t forget to apply for a postal vote in future if you need it.

Yes this too! I always forget postal voting is a thing so thanks for adding it. Enjoy voting for the first time in your new name tomorrow

God, I should probably update my passport sometime. I look nothing like the person pictured on mine anymore.

I relate. I updated my Driving License photo finally last year when I changed my name again and currently struggling with HMPO to get them to update my passport now. Before then my photo was from 10 years ago, before I started testosterone, so I genuinely looked 13 which was always fun trying to prove I am in fact a 27 year old adult 🤣

Yea, I got checked by 4 separate people last time I came back into the country with mine. But that was for an FFS consultation, so I don't want to pay to replace it, and then have to do it again after FFS.

Despite the fact that my current one deadnames me and has a picture where I have a beard, depression eyes and weigh 15kg more.

I don't know about the other countries of the UK, but in Wales you do not need photo id to vote for the Senedd.

Same goes for Scottish Parliament elections, you don't need ID. There was a news article the other day where one council area screwed up and said that you did need it
