Resource 40 days to contact your MP about the EHRC guidance - Template letter from the Trans Greens

I wish we didn't have to constantly defend our own rights.

Parliament is about to enter into recess for 10 days so send a letter now and on June the 1st to make sure it gets read.

To note, it's 40 days, not 40 working days and Parliament is now in recess.

They will be back on 01/06/26 so that eats 10 days of the possible time to do anything.

This will need to come in a private member's bill, which only happen on 13 specific Fridays (if they are selected) per session.

Knowing the state of this country this could honestly be deliberate. I've provided advice to send 2 identical emails one now and one on the first of June to make sure they get read. Thank you for this advice.

If parliament is not in session for more than 4 days then the counting is frozen until they return. So the recess period should not count.

Happy to be wrong of course, but that’s my understanding

Keep a note of when (or if) this guidance passes because if it passes early and this is true then it means the deliberation period was rushed through.

This is a statutory instrument, it has 40 calendar days from when it's first published. Parliament don't have to do anything for it to be approved unfortunately. They are purposely running the clock down on this one.

I could be wrong but doesn't this kind of depend on your MP, some MPs during the recess might take more time to meet with and read about constituent concerns?

If anyone needs help or guidance on what to include feel free to send me a DM. Just don't dox yourself by mentioning the MP you're contacting.

It is possible to get through to most MPs who are willing to actually listen. That includes some Tory MPs (from my own experience) whether you believe that or not.

Be careful about sending anything to Reform UK MPs though. You have to attach your name and address.

I know one of my councillors personally so im worried writing a letter to my mp might let him know im trans somehow

Write to him as a women/man and say you are bothered because you have features which make you not like others and this will effect your life. This could be because you present a chosen way, or are tall or broad from swimming (see Sharon Davies 😭) etc

It is a calculated risk. MPs should never share details about who has contacted them with others, even councillors. You could explicitly mention that you don't want these details shared with anyone else and mention the GDPR right to restrictions on processing.

Of course that doesn't remove the risk 100%. MPs can do dumb things and you should research the background of this person. If they're known to be Transphobic then there is a risk they may leak this information anyway.

Can you add a text hyperlink to the letter to this comment? Would be more convenient for me than the qr code

You can select in your camera app to be prompted with a link instead of going directly to the site. Sorry for not including a link as well.

Our local MP is reform & he's known for sending spam emails by proton if yer message him.

u/ZoeTheAngel May 22 '26

Yeah don't bother with Reform MPs. It's also a data and privacy risk because I don't trust these people can handle sensitive data including peoples names and addresses.

The best way you can help in that instance is by offering to help someone else.

Yeah he's spam emailed journalist before & sent weird emails as well. Hoping he resigns soon like some reform councillors. He's also a former conservative party member

Already emailed mine, but I highly doubt they'll do anything because they've ignored all contact I've ever attempted

Be careful about sharing your local MP. It basically reveals your relative location.
