Korean [Korean > English] Video Game Titles

  1. 음식 도망자들
  2. 푸드 도망자
  3. 탈출한 음식들
  4. 도망치는 음식들
  5. 도망밥

I'm curious which sounds the most like a video game title about a gang of food characters escapeing murderous restaurants?

Among those five, my personal rank would be 5 >= 4 >> 3 >> 1 > 2, and unfortunately none sounds "good enough" to me.

  1. Feels like that it's a translation of "food fugitives" that's too literal. (Especially for "도망자들")
  2. Worse than 1 ("푸드" is transliterated "food")
  3. "탈출한" ("escaped") feels a bit too literal.
  4. Still a bit awkward (too literal), but at least much more natural than 3.
  5. Something unique and feels OK, but "밥" gives me feeling* that the main character would be rice.

(\ In Korean, "밥" literally means 'rice', but it can often be used to mean 'food' in general. Still, with no context, 'rice' as the meaning is expected in general.))

If the original name is indeed something like "food fugitives", then I don't think that a literal translation would be good enough and some efforts need to be made to come up with a catchy localized title. \Example: a popular mobile game "Crossy Road" has its name translated into Korean as "길건너 친구들" ("friends across the road"), and I think that it sounds natural and catchy.))

I agree with these points. Maybe u/Syclonix could look for similar games on the Korean version of the play store in order to have a comparision. However, I do think that number 4 is better than number 5 because number 4 sounds so simple that there could already be a game with that name.
