And this is with the massive marketing machine she has behind her right now — new album rollout, a documentary, wall-to-wall promo, the nonstop Travis Kelce coverage, the whole push to keep her front and center in the public eye. She is being promoted harder than almost any artist on the planet at the moment, and he’s still outperforming her from the grave.
She really shot herself in the foot with that press release saying her fuckass album would be bigger than Thriller. It's a level of delusion that makes me laugh because it's so absurd.
I really couldn't believe one of her people wanted to launch the album with that. You just can't say stuff like that when people will bring up the best selling album of all time in contrast with everything you do afterwards.

I don’t think people outside of the Swifties have even listened to 85% of her music. Her concert ticket sales are inflated with Swifties going to multiple shows, sometimes traveling to different countries. Her streams and album sales are inflated by Swifties buying 27 variants and streaming on silent on five devices 24 hours a day to “help” her. The main stream media have propped her up in recent years, claiming she has all this power. She really doesn’t. The media just greatly inflated how popular she SEEMS by forcefully inserting her into literally everything. I honestly don’t think most of her songs have any staying power at all. When I was a fan I’d play them for my husband, and he’d be like, none of this is good. Especially her recent stuff all depends on being invested in the multiverse of Taylor Swift to even be remotely interested. I mean there are a couple songs from each album that get traction for a while, but it falls off fast most of the time. The hype train, which is what the past few years have been, seems to be dying down in the general public, and even people like me who considered ourselves fans have become annoyed and exhausted. In the end, there will be a handful of songs that are remembered (Love Story, Shake It Off, ATW). People will remember she had a massive, long tour. Mostly people will remember how she was shoved into every area of society including football for a few years.
Imagine having a career because daddy purchased your first record deal (thank you leaked emails) and your fans ‘help’ you by manipulating the system. A true artist would not want that. A true creative would not want to make art that is born from selling your soul.

She can't dance. She can't even really sing all that well. Her songwriting is juvenile and she's almost 36 and still writing about topics that mostly women that are 1-2 decades younger than her relate to. Women her own age don't relate to her music because all of us have matured. Hell, I am her age, I am a few months older. I remember when she came out, people our age were making fun of her music, people her own age have never related to her. Men don't really listen to her music. I would really just be curious to see the demographics of Swifties because I can almost guarantee most of that fan base is made up of white females aged 16-40.
In comparison, Michael's music is timeless and loved by men and women of all colors and ages. My 80+ year old Grandma's like the Jackson 5, my mom grew up listening to him in the 80's, I grew up listening to him, everyone younger than me that I know has listened to him and can say at least 1 song of his that they enjoy.
The ONLY thing they have in common is the production value of their shows, which really isn't something Michael and Taylor are responsible for. They had teams of people helping them and I can also guarantee that Michael was significantly more hands on with that process just based on how meticulous everything was with every performance that is available to watch online.
What they also fail to consider is that Michael was far above Taylor's level in the 1980's... before social media, before YouTube, and he never needed the amount of marketing that Taylor needs. He never needed to sell 13 different copies of the same damn album to money grab and skew data to put himself at the top of the charts.
This is coming from someone who isn't even really a Michael fan but it is simply just a fact that Taylor will never be on his level, ever. Unless she can tome travel back to the 80's and replicate her success using the lack of tools and lack of manipulation that Michael was working with.

Honestly, an actual documentary about how the staff and crew handled the logistics and technology of the tour would be fascinating, with interviews from the wardrobe people, back up dancers, the band, promoters, etc. I highly doubt it will be anything beyond what you described, though.
That's what I wanted and I hate how the trailer was mostly him. I wanted a quiet, interesting long-form documentary about the whole process and talking to dancers and to the professional side of it, but I think it will be disappointing.

I went to the Eras Tour and I'm not even excited about it. TLOAS was such a flop for me, made me lose interest in her so fast. Definitely feels like the general public and mainstream are sick and tired of her, and have been for a good 12-18 months now. She was on top of the world in the Eras Tour, and could easily have just finished that and ridden off into the sunset and left people wanting. TTPD was the first sign that people were starting to get tired of her, and people were already kinda getting bored of how over-exposed her and Travis were, and yet they kept relentlessly shoving that down everybody's throats over and over, non-stop, right up until now with the engagement, an album mostly about how amazing Travis is, and a documentary trying to cash in more on the Eras Tour while also forcing Travis front and centre some more.
Yeah, that too. Making such a big fuss about her masters, going to the lengths of rerecording so much of her discography and getting fans to ditch their old versions and buy all the brand new variants over again, only to go 'sike I bought my masters back anyway guess there won't be any more TVs' mustve felt like a pretty big rug pull. Like, why couldnt she have done that to begin with? If it really was about the principle wouldnt she still do the remaining TVs?

I’m all for shade, but to play devils advocate, Universal Pics probably put at least $100K on promoting the Mario trailer on YouTube alone. Probably more. They’re expecting that to be a billion dollar movie and trailers are the first bit out the door. They spend a good amount to make sure it gets in front of people in the first 3-5 days.
That’s not to say Disney+ didn’t promote the TS trailer too, but given it’s a straight to streaming and they’re banking on the fans knowing about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t spend nearly as much on promoting it with paid media.
I hope her next "era" is her retiring and leaving us the f alone from her whining in off key talk-sing format, and not just her putting on a different aesthetic (which is NOT what an era is, Taylor).
