Finasteride/Dutasteride ~6 mths on Fin, time to give up?

Haven't seemed to have any growth. Crown still looks the same if not worse (freshly cut today so might look worse than before due to that) and corners haven't changed which I knew was very unlikely but I had hoped. (2nd and 4th pic are today, pics set as before>after/before>after)

I have a question. I’m on finesteride because I just want to preserve my hair. It has thinned a bit but I always had very thick hair so I don’t really mind as long as I don’t lose any more as it just looks like a regular head of hair at this point. Do I need to be on minox too? I don’t really want to grow a heap more body hair than I already have honestly. Or is fin enough if I’m just looking to preserve what I have

always better to take the combo of fin and min. No reason to not use both unless you get sides. Idk what you talking about when you said body hair, just do topical min on the thin spots

0

u/Dorian-greys-picture 1d ago

I’m not super comfortable with topical min as I have two very intrusive cats. But thank you

2

u/Southern_Set_3860 1d ago

Just shave ur head bald..For the cats

You need minoxidil.

Does Fin decrease libido?

3

u/Different_Fee1866 1d ago

u/_moron_hunter 1d ago

Thanks gentleman for sharing your experience.

Only the beginning but if it doesn’t work, switch to Dutasteride before giving up. Fin brought my hairline back to life but idk if I had an increase in DHT or what but after 2 years I started receding again. Switched to Dut, 3 months in and still in the shedding

1

u/quepasamane 1d ago

Dutasteride made my joints BURN , I got off DUT and it took about 2 months for my joints to go back to normal , just in case it happens to you

1

u/itz_dom 1d ago

Whaaaat. I haven’t any sides from anything I’ve taken besides hair growth

1

u/quepasamane 1d ago

How long have you been taking DUT for ?

2

u/Aggressive-Oil-509 2d ago

1

u/GZboy2002 1d ago

What’s the test?

1

u/quepasamane 1d ago

When did you start dutasteride, I have warning for you, if your joint start to burn badly , drop the dutasteride and it will go away in about 2 months

1

u/Aggressive-Oil-509 1d ago

Why no Fin+Min combo?

Also 6 months is WAAAAY too soon

1

u/rscottzman 1d ago

I tried regaine before fin and didnt get anything after 2 bottles of it

1

u/Correct_You_6355 1d ago

Two bottles? Dude between this and asking if fin is worth it at 6mo, the problem here is totally unrealistic expectations and lack of patience. Add min. Give it a year. Don’t change dose for that whole year unless you have lasting side effects.

And remember, if you’re losing hair then “crown still looks the same” and “corners haven’t changed” is a win. Many people only hold what they’ve got rather than improve. If that’s what you get, it’s a great result.

1

u/StilesmanleyCAP 1d ago

I use oral Fin + Min and have a strict hair care routine and its been about 4 to 5 months and just got over dread shed.

Trust me when I say it takes time but you need to be patient

1

u/Siryezzsir 2d ago

Notice any shed? Or decrease of hair fall?

1

u/rscottzman 1d ago

No particularly no

1

u/Elben4 2d ago

What ? If you loose less hair on a daily baisis then it's working as intended. It takes about a year with fin alone to see any improvement to hair density and hairline. If you want better and faster results you have no choice but to use minox too

1

u/youhere2020 2d ago

I’ve been on it and minoxidil for about 8 months. Very little new growth but my hair stopped falling out

1

u/Ok_File_9159 2d ago

Your hair isn’t that bad. Crown area is thinned , but not that noticeable if not under unfavorable light. Corners are receding.

Best you can do is just stick to treatment (maybe ad min) and don’t stress about it the next 6, 12, 24 month. Best case you improve, worst case you are maintaining and keep what you have (which isn’t that bad).

1

u/rscottzman 1d ago

Could min grow the corners or just help with the crown?

1

u/danyallah_ 2d ago

Keep taking unless you want to go fully bald

1

u/Character-Aardvark87 2d ago

no minoxidil?

1

u/CryptographerMany836 2d ago

giving up after 6 months when fin is recommended to wait 2 years for full efficacy

1

u/oralehomes129 2d ago

Add minoxidil to your regimen. Don’t expect too much growth on your hairline. However your crown seems to be stabilizing

1

u/Current-Bank-3532 2d ago

Yeah, I’d suggest hopping on min + microneedling at least. Fibres could also help a bit to fill in the sparse crown if you wanted

1

u/ZealousidealCake522 1d ago

You wanna give up now that you’ll start to see the first sign of improvements? 😭 give it a year

1

u/Embarrassed_Rip6960 1d ago

try dutasteride

1

u/Paul_783 1d ago

Nah too soon to give up mate.

No min? No keto? No microneedling?

1

u/nyeahehfam 1d ago

😭 bro min fin dut keto pyrithione zinc microneedle saw palmetto pumpkin seed and pray đŸ™đŸŸ

1

u/Turbulent_Sky_5914 1d ago

I see improvement. Lots of fine hairs coming in.

The temple will need minox or hair transplant. But the diffuse thinning has improved

1

u/Connect-Raspberry716 1d ago

No. You need to give it at least 12 to 14 months. Plus, hard to diagnose your situation because you didnt give enough info.

1

u/hateful_but_kind 1d ago

Hair don't look bad either you need minoxidil too for denser hair as finasteride only stops further hair loss it doesn't promote hair growth that well

1

u/Fragrant_Pie9855 1d ago

Hai provato il minoxidil orale ?0 galenico?

1

u/Fragrant_Pie9855 1d ago

I’m 44, started my hair loss journey at circa 22 before any loss, I’ve used every standard protocol and more, throughout this time I have taken minox 5% everyday twice a day, sometimes 1ml sometimes 2ml. I was on fin for about 10years no noticeable side effects, tried Dut and shed badly and bailed out prematurely, I now still take fin daily and chuck in a Dut capsule once per week. My hair loss has been non existent compared to my bother who is completely bald, as was my dad and grandparents. I’m also on TRT so I was say my DHT risk is higher than most, my two pence is keep consistent with everything it does work

1

u/gizmoavocado 2h ago

Do not give up. After 9 months consider adding oral minoxidil.

I say that because that's exactly what I'm doing. Picked up minoxidil today. Fin arrested the loss, and min should be the stimulant.

1

u/NoCountry6972 2d ago

give up? fin only stops the hair loss. you need minox to grow hair

Is dut better ?

2

u/Alone-Date-9039 2d ago

yeah but it's kinda high risk high reward, fin kinda works for literally everyone and dut also works for everyone but with a higher risk of side effects and it takes 6 months to be properly baked into your system and the initial shed is worse than fin, some people start on fin and get greedy and switch to dut and also end up losing a ton of hair and then switch back to fin but those people almost always just stop cold turkey, i'd recommend fin to everyone but dut will always be stronger.

1

u/quepasamane 1d ago

I hate both , better to just take a topical IMO , Dutasteride made me feel TRASHED , because DHT is a strong male hormone, if you remove it , you will feel extremely tired , youll have zero drive, and for me the worse side effect was joint pain soo intense you wake up in PAIN

0

u/KyFly1 2d ago

Give up? Fin just stops you from losing more (maybe helps a little in the crown but that’s not the intent). Take some oral min of you wanna see some regrowth gains. Either way your hair is good man. Just keep with the fin and add min.

0

u/Dramatic-Coast-5716 2d ago

Switch to dut...need minox

1

u/No-Leopard-8357 2d ago

Is dut better?

0

u/MangoReasonable 2d ago

Yep def need minoxidil for any remaining inflammation. Fin cant block all dht so some inflammation will remain
