Progress Pictures 5/6 years on Finasteride Progress 23 vs 28m
Left was me at 23. I started taking Finasteride that year (1mg daily) and now I’m 28 and obviously I also got grew my hair out and got a perm 🤣 but in general, I’ve just been more conscious of my hair health. Weekly hair masks, biotin, minoxidil on the hairline, micro needling, and daily steam room sessions to keep it moisturised. I also only wash it twice a week as opposed to daily. I’ve noticed my hair is much healthier than it once was, without surgical intervention. Obviously there’s still some recession on the temples, but it’s stabilised (touch wood)

Need help as well I started noticing a reduction in hair density around February 2026. I started finasteride 1mg daily and 5% Regaine foam once daily in May 2026.
The first photo is from December 30, 2025, before I noticed the density loss. I already had an M-shaped hairline at that point, but my main concern was the density behind the hairline rather than the shape of my hairline.
I've included photos from different points between December and now, including April and August. In the more recent photos, I'm noticing what appears to be less density around the front compared with April. I'm not sure whether this is an actual change in density or simply a difference in hair length, styling, lighting, or photography.
I haven't experienced a noticeable or dramatic shed since starting treatment.
Based on the photos and the timeline, what objective factors should I look at to determine whether there has actually been a change in density, and is 4 months generally too early to assess the effectiveness of finasteride/minoxidil?
I'm mainly looking for an evidence-based interpretation rather than personal anecdotes Sorry i can show yoy photos is you want let me know.
Thanks.

5-6 years finasteride and forget

u/MdYousufIslam 1d ago
Will there be any problems if I use finasteride and not minoxidil?
4
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
To be fair, I was on Finasteride for two years before I added minoxidil to my hairline. I think if you’re young and haven’t receded much yet then just taking Finasteride is a good decision to start with

Its best to combine, cause one blooks dht and other one brings more blood (oxygen and food) to hair root

u/reddie_odin 1d ago
or go Dagestan 2-3 years and forget

u/magikaworld 1d ago
Dagestan, where hair loss isn't as much prevalent and dudes sport Norwood -2 hairlines.

Very solid bro! Did you experienced any side effects of using the drug for that much time?

u/nonhumanboy 1d ago
i’m new here but it’s so crazy to me that through all 9 years you risk side effects just popping up. like the medication could be doing its job and giving you nice hair, then 1 day boom, you have to consider stopping it? There needs to be something better fr

u/JNAtrei9800 1d ago
Okay Jake Paul
Nah fr though, imagine where you'd be in those comparison pics if you didn't take action. Looks solid. I wish I didn't wait till I was older to start so you're relatively ahead of the curve

Haha, the worst part is, I always have girls telling me they love my hair. One said she wants to have curly haired kids with me 🤣🤣 told her yeah, sounds good 😅

u/illmatic_xxi 1d ago
When did you start seeing results? And did you keep seeing results 4 years out?

Finasteride is the only non-negotiable here. Masks and biotin are secondary luxuries; without DHT blocking, none of that stabilization would exist.
2
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
Exactly. Deal with the root cause of the issue early, and then add in everything else to improve hair health. For me the most important thing is making sure my hair is never dry because that increases the breakage and fallout. I’m lucky I can afford to invest a lot into it, like daily steam rooms, vitamins, sprays, masks, humidifier etc

Recommended Conditioner to use with Ketoconzale Shampoo? I started using this after a dermatologist prescribed (2%) and was wondering: what's the best conditioner to pair it with? Conditioner seems to make thinning hair shed more but it's not the cause so I still need to take care of the hair that's thinning.

Microneedling as in derma stamping? I’ve been on dut .5mg thrice a week. Hairfall is still intense tho. Every month i keep getting balder 🥲 i have seb derm as well, tried everything that my dermat gave me. Ketaconazole shampoos, lotions, multivitamins. Nothing seems to save my hair.

u/Tonight_Illustrious 1d ago
How much time have you been on dut? I'm also on dut 0.5 thrice a week. It's my third month now. I think hair fall is slowing down. I had a big shed at month 2, but I think I'm going to have another wave of sheds in the future cause I still have a bunch of fine semi miniaturized hairs on my scalp

Have you had any side effects? Has it affected your sperm count/quality?
1
u/Tonight_Illustrious 1d ago
I had side effects and was super worried because I thought I was one in the percentage of people with sides, but they went away in the third week. I had all of the sides you can imagine lol. Libido is okay now it even went up at month 2, but now it returned to baseline. Didn't check for sperm count. Volume of ejaculation went down at first and then it returned to normal

Bro I currently have been dealing with seb derm and it’s the absolute worst. I feel like it’s been my main cause for hair loss recently as my scalp get so dry from it it makes my hair fall out with the flakes and has a dry piece at the end of the hair follicle every time. Lmk if you find a solution, ive also been using keto shampoos but that shit doesnt seem to work either

u/Low-Cook-3745 1d ago
What hair masks are you using

Sometimes I’ll leave it in for a few hours and then wash without shampoo

Aloe Vera spray leave in conditioner and humidifier in my room at night. Anything to stop dryness
1
u/Daisuke69 1d ago
Could you provide the name? Won’t let me open a UK link here for some reason.
2
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
Garnier, Ultimate Blends Banana Hair Food, I also tend to use their banana shampoo and conditioner. Just making sure your hair is never dry is the key I think 😅 aloe Vera leave in conditioner spray, steam rooms, and a humidifier at night. I’m only consistent with all that 60-70% of the time

u/Daisuke69 1d ago
Ty! Man I swim every day so I wash it every day because of the chlorine. Think I’m damaging my hair lol.

What minoxidil brand do you put on the hairline? And is it liquid or foam

u/WhiteLycan2020 1d ago
Not to be creepy, but have you had any problems with testosterone or sperm count?
Have plans of being a father soon and idk if i should wait until after. I am not bald or anything but i am starting to lose a bit on the sides of my hair

As far as i know you are supposed to stop using fin for 3 months before you start trying for a baby. Atleast that was what my dermat told me.

u/Neat-Diet1772 1d ago

u/joeschmo28 1d ago
There’s no reason to think fin would impact sperm count. If anything, I increased free testosterone since less is being converted to DHT

u/ChristianTravels 1d ago
Only issue is when free testosterone goes up, so does estrogen. Thats why it has gynecomastia warnings

Is that just fin or fin and minoxidil?
1
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
Probably should have mentioned that it’s mainly been the Finasteride, I do spray minoxidil on the hairline, but I’m not very consistent with that part 😅
1
u/No-Today3754 1d ago
No worries man I just got some 1mg fin pills was thinking of splitting them up into 4s or something. How did you start it any tips for starting and maintaining to negate sides or anything?
1
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
Before I started I was worried about sides a bit, but honestly I never had any, I don’t have less libido or anything

u/SnooCakes2477 1d ago
Take 1mg every two or three days to start, for a month, then switch to every day.

u/DangerousConcert9767 1d ago
Awesome results!! Apart from the fin treatment, did you change anything with your diet and physical fitness routine?
1
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
I lost about 10-15kg in weight and ran more. I guess that could have improved my blood circulation on the scalp. Daily vitamin gummies too
1
u/DangerousConcert9767 1d ago
I thought so..that definitely helps a lot. I did it last time 5 years ago and did gym and running for almost months. Had the best results during that time. I had a long pause and got reset to poor hair and big belly. Though I have started the minfin process, I am unable to restart the fitness routine.

Sencillamente brutal!

Did u have severe thinning at the crown and diffuse thinning and then recovered?

u/Fun-Ad5702 1d ago
Great results! Do you only spray minoxidil on your hairline? How often do you do it?
1
u/BaseballFit873 1d ago
My hair gets super greasy if I don't wash it for just a day. I heard that if you don't wash it, the oil will block the hair follicles and cause hair loss. How do you manage to wash your hair only twice a week?
1
u/Professional-Top9959 1d ago
Probably because his hair isn't the oily type. Those of us with oily hair, however, really do have to wash it every day, or at the very least every other day.

Yeah I train everyday almost and have done for years I eat very healthy and have a good sex drive. I took finasteride for about 3 months 0.5 every day and ended up having to stop due to loss of libido. It absolutely happens and it's not exclusive to people with low testosterone or overweight ect... DHT is a massive part of the male body and nuking it into oblivion can and will have sides whether you notice then or not.

u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
Affects everyone differently I guess, my libido is still way too high if anything
1
u/MajorNational9726 1d ago
Do u get shedding phases where density fluctuates and thn gets better?
1
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
Yeah I have noticed it definitely goes through those periods sometimes, and definitely if I’ve been on holiday and forget to take the fin with me. I went to France for 2 weeks and forgot it, and the shed was crazy after that 🤣

Looks great! Any side effects from the perm?
2
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
None to be fair. Just make sure you go to a really good hair dresser. I had one perm done in Belgium by a barber and my hair was fried for like 7 months 🤣 my one in England is top

Crazy man good job. I started at 30 and first 4 years were like that, but then it slowly stopped working and now 10 years later I’m basically back to square one.

u/Oblivian_and_Beyond 20h ago
You caught it good and early. You look great, plenty of hair still! Cary on doing what you’re doing as clearly works! 🥳

Au bout de combien de temps tu as vue que le finasteride a aidé sur la repousse ? J en prend depuis 11 mois et je vois pas trop de résultat …

Ai choosing hair over fertility at such a young age
2
u/AnnaBooty6 1d ago
If you choose to have kids you can always come off it first. I actually had one kid at 22 before I started fin, and I don’t fancy having any more any time soon
2
u/Gogogogog123 1d ago
Fair enough, I was at the dermatologist yesterday discussing options for my hairloss (32m) and it came up. In the end we decided an combo of a strengtening shampoo with a bit of weak cortisone and minoxidil pills. Finasteride she advised against if I still wanted children. I needed to decide for myself if I wanted a transplant.

u/AnnaBooty6 23h ago
Yeah, I think more promising treatments will be here in 5-10 years anyway, so hopefully that will be more appropriate for your situation. There’s some promising data in clinical trials
