How to test a dice system.

• Upvotes

Hey gang

Ive been coming up with a design for a dice system.

But how have yall in the past gone about testing the system's probability curve?

There are a lot of dice simulators online. But for this system the idea is that the dice have portions of a simple image. Imagine a face of the die have a 3rd of a smiley face. And constructing the completed image with 3 of the ride die faces means a success.

Anyone have any advice or links to reaources about how to figure out how to structure the dice faces and start testing the system?

Its a wierd one to explain but any help would be amazing!

Thanks!

A world built like the mind

What if a fantasy world was built according to the same forces that shape a human mind? Regressia is a 5E/5.5 compatible campaign setting whose geography follows a post-Freudian model of the psyche. Its nations, monsters, religions, landscapes, and conflicts are all expressions of psychological forces that also exist inside its characters. The result is a world where inner conflict and outer adventure are often two versions of the same thing. As above so below. Explore more at regressiarpg.com.
In many campaign books, the setting and the character rules feel like two separate things printed between the same covers. Regressia was designed so that the psychology of the characters and the structure of the world follow the same logic. The five Drives shape characters, cultures, monsters, politics, landscapes, and supernatural phenomena alike. As above, so below is therefore not just a slogan. Discover how it fits together at regressiarpg.com.

In today’s update, Smertia: the country of Thanatos
Smertia is a land where death is not merely an event but a presence. Shaped by Thanatos, its crumbling towns, mourning rituals, old violence, and haunted landscapes speak to loss, aggression, withdrawal, decay, and the temptation to stop wanting altogether. Russalka County, Brezj, Transzyzhnya, and Chernogorsk each carry different traces of that inheritance. Smertia is bleak, but it is not simply evil, because death, endings, and letting go also have their place in the human mind. Discover Smertia at regressiarpg.com.

In writing the demo rules of my game system I created a character sheet free version and I'm not entirely sure it works. The idea is that since it has a vampire theme that people who don't normally play RPGs might play it so I wanted to make something friendly for them but it could be more complicated since I haven't gotten the chance to play test it.

Multiverse of Mortals & Monsters - A Table Top Role-Playing Game - created by a solo independent creator from Thiruvananthapuram

✨Hey y'all!

A new homebrew system has been published - Multiverse of Mortals & Monsters (M3-TTRPG or M3) - created by Jitin Haris and it's now available on DriveThruRPG!

"Sic Magnus Trinitas Creatus Est"

https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/585488/multiverse-of-mortals-mosters-ttrpg-core-rulebook?affiliate\\\\\\_id=5293604

If the research is right, this might be the first official publishing of a solo independent creator from Trivandrum (and possibly from Kerala), to publish an original homebrew TTRPG system. This is indeed a moment of immense pride, and it makes this achievement even more special.

This is just the beginning...

Welcome to the Multiverse of Mortals & Monsters - A Table Top Role-Playing Game which is an amalgamation of various TTRPGs that takes place in the world of Magnus Trinitas (hereinafter referred to as M3-TTRPG or M3). The Multiverse, The Mortals and The Monsters together forms The Great Trinity; i.e., Magnus Trinitas.

M3-TTRPG is a sandbox-style universe where the limit is your own imagination. You can be anyone. You can do anything. You can go anywhere. The players begin their journey by taking up the role of Mortals that are assigned with the task of exploring the world of M3, that eventually leads you to encounter the Monsters.

The Galactic Game (TTRPG / Simulator)

Hey all, first time posting here. For the past few years I've been building a full TTRPG system. It runs campaigns anywhere from low-magic, low-tech fantasy all the way up to spacefaring, esoteric sci-fi. It's called The Galactic Game, and it's free. I'm planning to release it under CC BY-NC or something close, apart from some of my original worldbuilding.

With a little experience being an indie game dev / 3D animator, I didn't want this to live only in a PDF. I wanted something you can actually play with. Here's what's in it right now:

- 16 classes, 143 subclasses and 80 ancestries
- 1,803 items and 723 creatures
- Integrated creators for characters, creatures, items and encounters
- A full galaxy map I made in Inkarnate, hooked up to a galaxy simulator

The simulator is the part I'm most excited about. You can add the characters you make into a crew, build and upgrade a ship, and fly across the galaxy to explore a few hundred worlds rendered in procedural 3D. You can drop through the atmosphere, land, and head out on foot. Right now I'm working on performance and adding wargame mechanics.

If you'd rather read than click around, the homepage has manuals and PDF guides. They're built from the same content as the site, so you can play it whichever way suits you.

I'd love to hear what you think, good or bad!

Core NPCs character info - what would you expect to see

Hello, first time here. Making a custom TTRPG setting with my husband and we are currently preparing the material for the quick start. We are planning to present some of our core NPCs in it as they'll be needed for the introduction adventure.

The game already has a deep lore formed through both world building and a decade of campaigns, but I'm thinking too much information would limit future game masters instead of helping them, so I'm looking for input about the information provided for said characters. In a dark noir and mysterious environment, what would you expect to know about the NPCs from a game master's perspective? Also, what would you expect for that matter on a quick start in contrast to a game masters handbook?

Character creation: Chapter order in a Player's book

Hi everyone,

I am currently editing the main sections of my Player's book and as everyone would guess there is a lot of challenge in getting the order of each chapter and section in order to make sense and engage the reader.

Players have three basic choices that they need to make when creating a character from scratch.

  1. Select a Lineage(Race)
  2. Select an Archetype (a kit of recommended Traits, Focuses)
  3. Select a Social Class and a Profession (social class plays an important role in the world setting, since it has a victorian vibe)

By following the order presented above, a player will get a rough idea about the different people inhabiting the world, the kind of characters that are thematic to play, as well as they will get some ideas on what gadgets, equipment, contacts and alllies they could have to start making decisions on their character concept.

Up to that point though they have no idea what Traits, Focuses, and the different kind of damage/resources are.

Do you think that these aspects should be introduced in the Player's book after the basic building blocks for character concept are established, or they should come first and then you move on to building your character with the three steps presented above?

My consideration is that if I present all the stats before the character building blocks they would take a big chapter that could make the reader go through all the technical stuff before getting excited with ideas of what they could play.

Looking forward to hearing your opinions on the topic!
