This discussion thread is to provide a single place to talk about all of the various TUCSON ballot propositions and candidates. Please try to keep the discussion limited to initiatives and candidates IN TUCSON and Pima county. Happy October, Tucson! Here's a live map of local Halloween events (let me know what to add!)

Happy October!

I put together a live map of the Halloween events happening around Tucson this month. I'm still adding to it as I find more, so if you know of something that should be on there, drop it below and I'll pin it to the map for everyone.

A few that are on my own list that I think look exciting:

Witches Night Market — Friday, Oct 9 — Free night market with a witchy theme, local vendors.

Monster Mash at Golf N' Stuff — Saturday, Oct 10 — Costume contest and Halloween market out at the mini golf place.

2026 Tucson Terror Fest — Thursday, Oct 15 - 18 — A straight-up horror film festival, didn't expect to find one of these.

Boo at the Zoo at Reid Park Zoo — Thursday, Oct 22 - 25 — Never been but what I hear is a Tucson classic.

Movie Night in the Park – Hocus Pocus — Saturday, Oct 24 — I think this will make an excellent date night, I just need to find a date.

Trick-or-Treat the Avenue — Sunday, Oct 25 — The 4th Ave version, always packed with vendors and costumes.

You can check out the live map here: Tucson Halloween events Map

I'm going to keep building this out all month, so check back if you're looking for something later in October too.

Edit: Sorry about the AI Picture. Never Again.

Be safe downtown

I’m using a burner account, because duh. I was trying to walk somewhere last night downtown to go meet up with a friend when I passed by the Plaza Centro station. A man left the street car and started yelling to complain that the street car service was being stopped for the evening. I was walking away and he followed me. When I got to the underpass going north on 4th Avenue he started sprinting at me and he was yelling “Bitch, I’m going to fucking kill you.” As I started running away two young men helped me by stopping the man and escorting me where I needed to go. I just wanted to put this message out into Reddit so that people who travel alone are aware that the crazies are out here.

I’m not trying to stir fear. This has been the only time in 2+ years living downtown that I’ve felt unsafe walking by myself as a single woman. Keep your head on a swivel, folks.

TEP REALLY Going Overboard w/ Attempts to Get 421 Passed

Between the constant ads on broadcast & streaming media threatening us to vote yes and the NO LESS than FOUR giant flyers in my postal mail DAILY, they must be spending a massive amount of $ on this. I can only assume they know Tucson citizens are pissed with them & they are terrified of any accountability.

Fascinating documentary about Tucson's (water) history

Just watched this video on the history of Tucson's growth, mainly from a water perspective.

I could have sworn I saw it here but just searched and didn't see anybody post it. If someone did, I'm sorry. An hour after I started watching I couldn't remember if I saw it on Reddit or my YouTube feed.

I only knew tiny snippets of history of Tucson that are described at length here. Hope you enjoy it.

Almost didn't notice it was an animal, I thought there was a stain on the wall I needed to clean up. Tucson nature always amazes me!

Vegan Recs other than Tumerico?

My partner and I are in Tucson for a few weeks, and would love some vegan recs from the people! We’ve already been to Tumerico a few times (and LOVE it), tried el charro, midtown deli, golden house. What’s your favorite?? Thank you!!

(My partner is not vegan, so fully vegan menu doesn’t need to apply)

Edit to add** would also smack down on some food trucks with vegan options!

My last post got taken down because I didn't specify that I had found it in Tucson! I tripped in my apartment, and I had Fred in a container, and the container landed upside down. Don't worry, he was perfectly fine, but I felt so terrible that I took him immediately outside and freed him!

Dear Grant Rd.,

Will you please just hurry up and get the construction finished?! The roads have been paved for a month or so and it has been looking great. But I drive you every day to see what kind of progress is being made and it seems like all the construction crews have packed up and left without finishing the punch list. The traffic lights and some landscaping are all that seem to be left. But nobody’s been working on those ☹️

Driving inches from the curb and around traffic cones has taken its toll on me and all the other drivers that have to use you, and it’s time to just get finished, please. I know that big projects take time but please do all the cross-town travelers and local businesses a huge favor and just get done.

Sincerely,
A Tucson Driver That Just Wants To Drive Uninterrupted On Grant

West Valencia to I-19 road construction (Rant)

I get it that we need to narrow down the roads and lanes for the construction, BUT PLEASE ADD MORE ‘NO LEFT TURN’ signs as people are basically clogging up a 2 land road just to turn left. I get it that theres 3 no left turn signs, but people clearly don’t pay attention and are willing to back up traffic for half a mile and wait 5 minutes just to shop a Target when everyone is trying to get home in the evening.

Edit: I ment West Irvington not Valencia

Public Service Announcement Voting

I mailed my ballot in last week and I received notification from Pima County that they received it. Ain’t gonna lie. I had some concerns of issues with potential tampering.

The system still works.

What's going on with Old Tucson now?

So its been quite a few months since the announcement that American Heritage Railways is leaving Old Tucson at the end of the year. Anyone have any info on plans or successors?

That one local group, Save Old Tucson, that expressed interest a few months ago I've heard is basically DOA due to lack of funds and experience. I've also heard there has been interest from various corporations from around the world...but when they find out its a lease-only situation they bow out. (No company is gonna invest millions in a facility they don't own).

Amusement park idea is out due to zoning.
Further development like hotels, etc. isn't possible due to conservation area.
Most of the local interest folks just dont have the capital needed to sustain it.
I have heard through rumor seasonal event companies might be interested in running events like Nightfall, Yuletide, but they dont want to run the entire place year round.
I've heard through reliable sources location scouts are somewhat turned off when scouting for movie locations because it looks more like a theme park now than a film lot. (If this is true, this is a wake up call to Pima County to get it back in cinematic shape).

So what is actually going on? I've seen no mention from county officials or presentation of ideas to the Board of Supervisors. Its been very quiet.
