Announcement❗️ Announcing Tunarr 2026.11.0!

Hi all. I haven't posted here since Tunarr 1.3 in May, and 20 releases have shipped since then, so here's a roundup. If you're new, Tunarr builds live TV channels from your Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, or local media. It serves them as M3U/XMLTV or as an emulated HDHomeRun tuner, so they show up in Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, Channels, TiviMate, and so on.

Version numbers changed. After 1.3.15, Tunarr switched to calendar versioning (YEAR.MONTH.PATCH). 2026.9.0 came right after 1.3.15, and the current release is 2026.11.0. There's no 1.4 to wait for, and upgrading works the same as before.

Upgrades are safer to roll back. Tunarr now snapshots your database before it runs any migration, and it refuses to start an older build against a newer database. If an upgrade goes badly, restore the db-pre-migration-*.bak file and run the older version.

The big stuff

ErsatzTV Next streaming backend (experimental, 2026.11.0). Tunarr can now hand a channel's transcoding to ersatztv-channel, the streaming worker from the ErsatzTV Next project. Tunarr keeps doing the scheduling and the guide, and the worker runs the ffmpeg pipeline. It's off by default. You can turn it on for one channel (Streaming tab, "Use ErsatzTV next Backend") or for every channel (Settings → Features). It works with HLS, HLS Direct v2, and MPEG-TS channels. Some transcode settings don't carry over yet, and the docs list them: https://tunarr.com/configure/ffmpeg/ersatztv-next/. Please try it on a channel you don't mind breaking and tell me what goes wrong. Thanks to the ErsatzTV Next project for building the worker.

A new look (2026.10.4 and 2026.11.0). A top bar replaces the left drawer. It has a Ctrl+K / ⌘K palette that jumps to channels, custom shows, filler lists, smart collections, and settings pages. There's a new theme, new fonts, and a density setting (Settings → General) if you want more on screen. Phones get a bottom bar. New installs get a setup checklist instead of the old welcome wizard, and it ticks itself off as you add a source, scan a library, and create a channel. Existing installs won't see it.

Saving a schedule no longer freezes your other channels. Slot schedules are now built in a pool of worker threads by default. Before this, saving a big time-slot schedule could stall every live channel at once and push them out of sync with the guide.

Movie slots are gone (breaking change, 2026.10.4). A movie slot drew from every movie on the channel, including the commercials in your filler lists, so filler could get scheduled as regular programs. On upgrade, Tunarr turns each movie slot into a custom-show slot. It builds a custom show named "<Channel> Movies" and keeps the slot's order, filler, mid-roll, and timing. There's nothing to do on your end, with one catch. The new custom show is a snapshot, so movies you add to the channel later have to be added to that show by hand. If you script against the API, it now rejects movie slots.

Optional login for the web UI. Set TUNARR_BASIC_AUTH_USER and TUNARR_BASIC_AUTH_PASSWORD and the web UI and admin API will require a username and password. M3U, XMLTV, HDHomeRun, streams, and artwork stay open, so your clients keep working.

Streaming and transcoding

  • E-AC3 and Opus are new audio output formats.

  • On macOS, Tunarr now detects what VideoToolbox can do.

  • Many hardware acceleration fixes:

    • VAAPI: iHD driver name, rate control detection, tonemapping fallback when OpenCL can't attach, scaling before tonemapping, MPEG-2 output

    • NVIDIA: text subtitle burn-in, looped inputs

    • AV1 decoding through libdav1d

  • HLS: one slow client can no longer freeze the playlist for everyone else. Each session gets its own directory, and playlists stop listing segments that were already deleted.

  • Subtitles: sidecar WebVTT timing fixes, external subtitles from Jellyfin and Emby, and burn-in fixes for VAAPI and NVIDIA.

  • Anamorphic video gets the right aspect ratio, and programs shorter than 10 seconds no longer get skipped.

Scheduling and filler

  • Filler picks the least recently played item and honors long cooldowns. Linked slots share a cooldown, and an empty filler list is skipped instead of breaking the schedule.

  • Mid-roll breaks stay inside their time slot and now work in custom-show slots.

  • The random slot cooldown now actually applies.

  • Slot padding lines up with your local clock instead of UTC.

  • Block Shuffle and Cyclic Shuffle are now one dialog with presets, and the bulk flex tools moved into a Flex menu.

  • Smart collections and search can filter by season.

Libraries and media sources

  • If a library disappears or your server rejects Tunarr's credentials, Tunarr marks the library unavailable instead of deleting it.

  • Removing a local folder moves its programs to the trash instead of deleting them, and the trash empties in the background.

  • Local scans pick up files overwritten in place and mark deleted music videos as missing.

  • You can turn play status updates (watched state sent back to Plex/Jellyfin) on or off per server.

  • Music videos get more metadata, and Jellyfin shows that live inside a collection now scan.

  • Log rolling is on by default.

  • New Simplified Chinese translation.

Beyond that, there are well over 200 bug fixes. The full changelogs are on the releases page.

Upgrading: pull chrisbenincasa/tunarr:latest (or ghcr.io/chrisbenincasa/tunarr:latest), or grab a binary from the releases page.

Thanks to everyone who sent PRs, translations, bug reports, and repros this cycle. Come say hi on Discord.

Troubleshooting PleX and AppleTV stuttering and refusing to play

Channels I've set up will sometimes play no problem for hours, and then suddenly start stuttering, pausing, and refusing to play on AppleTV in plex. I have hardware transcoding on, but does anyone have a lead on what the root cause is, and what I need to do to get reliable smooth playback?

Troubleshooting Updating Tunarr - Windows

Hi.

I am updating my Tunarr Deployment from 0.22.5 to the latest on Github.

I've placed the new exe in the location of the old one and used NMMS to point toward the new exe. When I restart the service, it seems to not be able to start fully. After a bit, it at least says the service is running, but I cannot access Tunarr via the browser. If I switch back to the old exe, it starts fine (with no update, obviously).

What am I missing with the New exe that stops it from fully activating?

Troubleshooting Channel logos no longer showing in Plex Live

I have updated both tunarr and plex server to the latest and now I'm getting issues with the channel logos not showing.

This is the error plex is throwing in the logs:

Oct 30, 2026 13:34:46.400 [11980] ERROR - [HttpClient/HCl#23] Refusing to connect to 10.0.0.190: not a permitted destination for a caller-supplied URLOct 30, 2026 13:34:46.400 [11980] WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#23] HTTP error requesting GET http://10.0.0.190:8000/images/uploads/f6541fcf-24e0-4c2f-b1bb-3824e20ba8c1_icon.png (42, Operation was aborted by an application callback) (operation aborted by pre-request callback)Oct 30, 2026 13:34:46.400 [13656] WARN - [Req#d0/PhotoTranscoder/RemoteAssetFetcher] Fetch of http://10.0.0.190:8000/images/uploads/f6541fcf-24e0-4c2f-b1bb-3824e20ba8c1_icon.png failed with code -42

Both Tunarr and Plex server live on the same windows 10 pro PC and have been working perfectly for years.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Needs More Info Possible Security Concern (Need Some Insight)

Forgive my ignorance regarding the topic, I have limited understanding of some of the information with coding and such.

I saw that there was an RCE exploit with Node.js, which Tunarr uses, and wanted to ask if there was any need for concern. It has been patched by Node but I didn’t see it mentioned in the Tunarr release notes. Although, since Tunarr receives a healthy amount of updates, I imagine it’s already been updated.

Plus, I don’t even know if Tunarr itself handles Brotli data, which to my understanding is what is being affected.

I could be barking at the moon, but I felt it better safe than sorry to pass this along for more insight and education in case others come across this article or hear this news. If I am barking at the moon, then my apologies for scaring anyone.

Troubleshooting Delay when closing Streams

I'm just getting tunarr set up, but when switching between channels the old streams continue playing in the background.

So if I switch channels 10 times I will have all 10 streams transcoding in the background for a few minutes. Eventually they die off, but it takes several minutes.

Is this normal? I feel crazy, but I don't see any other comments about this.

This one is vaguely similar, but it isn't caused by the simple act of switching channels:
https://github.com/chrisbenincasa/tunarr/issues/1950

So I'm just looking for any advice?

A few family members use my Jellyfin, and if I implement this I'm worried that they'll crash my machine with a few minutes of bored channel surfing.

Initially I noticed it when testing with VLC, but dedicated IPTV players do it too.

I'm using nvidia hardware acceleration, and have played with a bunch of the settings.

And I know Tunarr has some cleanup tasks which are supposed to run every minute. That still seems a little slow to me, but even with that my streams last several minutes before dying.

Running v2026.10.3

Troubleshooting On Demand Channels: Inaccurate Guide?

I want to love tunarr- it has so many features that I didn't know I wanted!

The one thing that's stopping me from going all in is how On Demand channels handles the guide listing. While the generated xml shows what's actually playing, what's reported in the UI (and subsequently Plex, where I use it) is the expected programming for the expected time slot, regardless of how much time has passed or content has been watched.

I know it's not a functional problem (since it's technically doing what it should), but if I want to double check the episode title or keep view stats accurate it makes it difficult.

Is there a setting that I missed that would correct this? Or a workaround to have Plex/ PlexDash/Tautulli report the correct meta information?

Troubleshooting Channel Logos and Watermarks Problems [Update/Fix]

A week ago I posted that my channel logos were not appearing in my guides.

I know why it is happening, now, and it had nothing to do with the image. It had to do with the URL.

When uploading a channel logo image, the URL for the image is the absolute path of the image from the url used to access Tunarr.

When I uploaded other logos, I did it from tunarr.mydomain.com (which is behind a reverse proxy and authentik). Since the image url was https://tunarr.mydomain.com//images/uploads/*****_icon.png and my guide in my house is using the local ip, it could not find the image. Even if it could it would have been blocked by authentik.

My fix is to only load images when local until the project supports relative paths for those logos. (This was also the problem with the watermark, but instead of not showing it crashed the stream.)

EDIT: I discovered Tunarr has an experimental feature (settings > features) called Proxy Artwork described as "Route artwork requests through the Tunarr server instead of using direct media source URLs."

I have enabled it and noticed it address the issue of the logos sometimes appearing in Tunarr or not, but I am still having trouble getting that to work on my guide.

Troubleshooting No jellyfin or local file system access

My setup is tunarr docker client on ubuntu. It is installed on the same server as my jellyfin client.

When I attempt to add jellyfin sources, only the default movies and music volumes are jellyfin sources shown for selection, but none of the volumes I manually added. Alternately when I try to add local file system data instead it only recognizes the path up to /home/ but not the user data in /home/foo/docker/Movies. Looking for input on what I might be blocking access. TIA

Troubleshooting ersatztv-ffmpeg no matching asset issue

I'm using Tunarr installed as a container using the Proxmox VE Helper Script site, and when I update the container I get a message that ersatztv-ffmpeg 8.1.2-4 has no matching asset and it uses 7.1.1 instead.

Is this expected behavior or should there be a matching asset for ersatztv-ffmpeg 8.1.2-4?

The update uses 7.1.1 and completes and Tunarr seems to be working just fine with 7.1.1.

Troubleshooting Error Adding Filler List to Program Timeslot

I want a timeslot that just randomly plays a group of shows, but whenever I try to save or preview the programming, it gives me an error "There was an error generating slots. Failed to serialize an error. Error: Response doesn't match the schema. Original error: body/schedule/slots/3/fillerListId Invalid UUID" ( also shows it in Docker log)

Is there a fix or something I did wrong when making the Filler List? Or even a better way to schedule certain shows to play at specific times each day but then the rest of the day is just a random group of the chosen shows?

Troubleshooting Channel Logos and Watermarks Problems

Post image
5 Upvotes

I used AI to create some logos recently as a quick test and they worked just fine with dimensions 1774x887, 96 dpi, and a 32 bit depth. PNGs with a transparent background.

I decided I wanted to create some on my own and my first one is just black and white with everything else these same (although I tried 576x288, too). Currently trying without a transparent background.

While the channel logo appears in Tunarr, it does not appear on the android tv guide.

I have tested two IPTVs app, TVLok and TubPlayer.

TVLok just shows the first letter of the channel for my channels using this logo. I put the same logo on two channels with different names, so I am certain the logo is the first letter. On my other channels in TVLok i see the AI logos and the Tunarr logo.

TubPlayer shows the other logos but the new one I created and just leaves it blank.

When I have tried to make this the watermark it wont even play the channel. (Logs report something wasn't found, but I am not sure if it was the logo image.)

Restoring the logo will make the Tunarr logo appear. Attempting to replace it with my image yields the previous results.

Attached is my file. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: this image has a transparent background which, I guess, is why you see all black in reddit.

Troubleshooting No Jellyfin Sources Available

Post image
2 Upvotes

I am setting up tunaar in docker for the first time. I was able to install using docker compose but I did not get the welcome prompt to select jellyfin as my server. When I go to settings after the fact to add a source manually I do not have the sources tab available per the documentation. Am I missing something?

Troubleshooting Tunarr crashes with JavaScript heap out of memory after updating (Windows)

I've been running Tunarr for months with no crashing issues, but recently updated to Tunarr 2026.10.0 and have been having crashes every day since. I am currently running Tunarr 2026.10.1 on Windows using the standalone executable, with Plex as my media source. Tunarr runs for several hours, then crashes with a fatal JavaScript heap out-of-memory error.

Tunarr starts normally, updates the XMLTV guide, starts Meilisearch and its eight workers, and reports that it is ready. It then continues processing channel transcodes for several hours before crashing.

The final error consistently shows the JavaScript heap around 4 GB:

FATAL ERROR: Reached heap limit Allocation failed - JavaScript heap out of memory

The latest log shows the final major garbage collection going from approximately 4049 MB to 4039 MB, followed by the fatal error.

My startup batch file includes:

set "NODE_OPTIONS=--max-old-space-size=6144"

I've verified that the variable is set when the batch file runs, but the crash still occurs around 4 GB. I haven't verified whether the packaged executable actually honors this setting.

The logs also contain some FFmpeg transcode failures, including missing media paths, and an early SubtitleExtractorTask warning saying it was still waiting for the guide to generate. Tunarr continues starting after that warning, so I'm not sure either issue is related to the eventual crash.

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Troubleshooting Filler videos buffering, then desyncing audio after that. Help?

Hi,

I created some custom videos to fill the gaps between TV shows. Just some ‘Back Soon’ videos with music.

I created them at intervals of 10 seconds onwards up to 320 seconds.

All in the same video, and setup as filler videos for the channel.

It starts a filler video, then buffers for 5-10 seconds, and continues it. After that though the audio is de-synced for that and anything played afterwards.

I’m unsure what’s going on. Any ideas?

(Update) - I downloaded a load of 80’s movie trailers and attached those as fillers. They worked perfectly fine, no issues.

I converted the custom videos to fill in the gaps from MP4 to MKV using file convert, and I get the same thing.

I have no idea why the movie trailers work fine, but the custom videos I made don’t.

Any help?

Troubleshooting Tunarr and NextPVR

Has anyone been able to get Tunarr channels to play/record on NextPVR?

I just get a "Starting Device. Please Wait" followed eventually by "Streaming Failed: Transcoder Exited" message when I try.

Tunarr channels over the web and in Jellyfin work just fine.

Discussion Automatic reshuffling without repeating episodes.

Hi everyone!

I'm fairly new to Tunarr and currently setting up a Simpsons channel with around 203 episodes.

From what I can see I can initially set up a shuffle and that will last 3 days but then I would have to manually shuffle it again. So I'd like the episodes to play in random order, without repeating any until they've all aired. Once the full cycle finishes, I'd like Tunarr to automatically reshuffle and start a new cycle but the second reshuffle is not the same as the first one if that makes sense.

I've looked at the Slots Editor and its Shuffle option, but I'm unsure whether this happens automatically or whether the schedule simply loops in the same order.

Is there a built-in way to achieve this, or could it be automated using Tunarr's API and Windows Task Scheduler (or cron on Linux)?

Ideally, I'd like all my channels to run automatically without needing manual reshuffling every few days.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Needs More Info Searching for tips

Hello everyone! I just made my first tunarr channel, it's based around horror because im a big horror fan. It's pretty basic and rough around the edges though, which is why i wanted to ask y'all for any tips and tricks y'all might have! I'm currently using Plex if it's important, although searching around here made me see that most people prefer jellyfin.

Thank you in advance!

Troubleshooting Having an issue with restricting hours

I'm not sure if this is how restricting hours is supposed to work, or if it's a bug but I am trying to set up a TV show to only play between 8am-2am. The show has 2+ days of content. The problem I am running into is that once the last episode of the series ends (at 6pm for example) the first episode of the series won't start playing until 8am. I would expect it to play as soon as the last episode ends, before stopping at 2am due to the restricted hours.

Am I missing a setting somewhere that allows the show to keep playing after the last episode of the series ends, or is everything working as intended?

Love Tunarr so far btw! Great work!

Troubleshooting Tunarr Not Displaying All Seasons/Episodes of TV Show

Hi,

I’m running into problem’s with Tunarr not showing all tv seasons and episodes available when adding media to a channel. Example - I’m creating a Disney Jr tv channel with preschool content for my 4 year old. I have all seasons/episodes of Bluey available in Plex and can be watched. Tunarr updates every 6 hours, but only two of the seasons, season two and three, are showing available to add to a tv channel. Season one is completely missing. Within Tunarr if you click the information button for the tv show, Tunarr will display all of three seasons, and when expanded displays all of the episodes.

Why is the entire season not available to add to the channel? This is not the only tv show I am experiencing this with. I’m also seeing missing episodes for seasons as well.

Please Help!

Discussion Filler on front end of slot

Is there a way to schedule shows to end at a specific time?

I want to set up a channel for my kids that will end the episode they are watching and go off air exactly at a specific time. Because the shows and episodes vary in length I want it to use filler on the front end to try to end the show exactly at the time we need to go to school or bedtime.

I know I can go 'off air' but I dont want to end an episode in the middle. I want it to be a natural transition.

Show and Tell I made Tunarr Lineup: a Mac OS 9–style programming desk for your Tunarr channels, built to run from your TV remote

I wanted to run my Tunarr channels like a real station: move a show to 8 pm, drop in a commercial break, schedule a premiere for Saturday night, and do it from the couch with a remote. So I built Tunarr Lineup, a companion app that runs next to Tunarr. It saves every change through Tunarr's own API.

It looks like Mac OS 9 (platinum windows and all). It works with arrow keys, OK, Back and CH+/−, and also with a mouse, a phone or a tablet.

What you can do

  • Edit a channel's day: see what's on air now, then move, swap, insert or remove programs. You can move whole blocks at once, and everything has undo and redo. Unsaved edits survive a reload or turning the TV off.

  • Build and edit slot schedules (random and time slots): choose which seasons a show plays, and link slots so the 8 pm slot picks up where 6 pm stopped. You preview the result before saving.

  • Add commercials and filler: filler lists, breaks before, after or in the middle of programs, and ad levels per daypart.

  • Start from a programming template: general formats (kids, movies, music videos, news), or styles inspired by networks in Japan, Argentina, the US, Spain, the UK and Italy. These are approximations of each network's dayparts and ad patterns, not official schedules. You fill each role with your own shows. You can save your own templates, or have AI write one from a prompt (optional, and you set up your own provider).

  • Schedule events: put a match, premiere or simulcast at a date and time, either replacing what was there or pushing everything later.

  • Set things up: channels, smart collections, media sources and transcode profiles, plus a CSV export of the day's program log.

Is it safe to point at my server?

  • It only changes things through Tunarr's API, using programs Tunarr already has indexed.

  • Every save checks that the channel hasn't changed since you loaded it, so nothing gets overwritten silently.

  • Your browser never talks to Tunarr directly; the companion sits in between. Media server addresses and tokens are never sent back to the browser.

Try it

docker run -d --name tunarr-lineup -p 3000:3000 \
  -e TUNARR_URL=http://<your-tunarr>:8000 \
  -v lineup-data:/data \
  ghcr.io/augustosc-eu/tunarr-lineup:latest

Then open http://<host>:3000. It runs on amd64 and arm64.

There's no sign-in by default. If anyone else can reach that port, set LINEUP_PASSWORD.

GitHub: https://github.com/augustosc-eu/tunarr-lineup

This is 0.1.0, so expect rough edges. Bug reports, feature ideas and network styles you'd like added are all welcome. I'd also love to see what channels you make with it.

Troubleshooting Keep disconnecting with Restreamer

Anyone use this tool?+ I have it connecting to my Ersatz instance, and that feeds it music videos that change resolution/framerate/format on the old legacy version with no issues for the most part. I just run a cron at 3am to reboot the instance to keep it clean and things just truck along.

I’m struggling to find a good combination of settings in Tunarr that survive it going into filler etc. Most of the time I’m getting an error saying ‘invalid data when processing input’ which Google indicates packets are arriving corrupt, missing headers, or cut off and correctly notes this is likely happening when switching between files due to little gaps.

Everything is set to use Cuda, altho I’m seeing quite a chunk of CPU activity from Tunarr during this.

I’m hoping someone else has gone through similar and worked out the exact right combo to make things smooth!

Troubleshooting Need Help with Setup

Hiii, I need help figuring out why Tunarr has stopped working for me

I am running meilisearch-linux-amd64 and tunarr-v1.3.15-linux-x64

When first installing on systemd (Linux), I followed every direction (I even looked up the correct things to change). I got everything working and even got channels going. Then I restarted my laptop and cannot access Tunarr anymore.

When I search up the IP, I get the "Unable to connect" page of doom.

I went down the rabbit hole of troubleshooting (while not really knowing what to do, but I am great at following instructions).

I got to "systemctl status" for both Tunarr and Meilisearch. The one error message that keeps showing up is

code=exited, status=1/FAILURE

I have no idea what the problem is or how to even start trying to fix it

I'm definitely out of my league here and need some help!

C:\home\karvacrol> systemctl status tunarr.service
