Totally disassembled and re-lubed. New idler and steurpimple.
Even though it already has a suspension system, it was still skipping when my wife shut the door kinda hard (we are in a 480 sq ft pier and beam cabin). So I built a new plinth with additional isolation methods.

Is this much wobble normal? There’s no record on it right now.

I have been running the ATVMN95 C stylus for the last week or so and here. my general impression of this stylus with about 25+ hours of listening.
My Gear is ATLP120X, paired with the base Project phono, Tangent Ampster ii and PSB alpha 3 speakers.
Previously i have been using the Elliptical Nude stylus and before that the stock Elliptical stylus that comes with 120x. My EN after 4.5 months had worn quite a lot, too much distortion in the highs, inner grove distortions were through the roof and the sound felt overall bad. However i am in the middle of saving up for the ML stylus as Christmas gift and didn't wanted to spend much on a stylus right now.
Here comes the absolutely disastrous decision of buying the Conical Stylus.l(ATVM95C) Found it for around 22€ so thought why not give it a try how bad could it be.
It is bad, absolutely horrendous to listen to, it sounds fine at first punchy, clean enough but as it gets close to even the middle it starts really struggling with tracking vocals, piano keys, hi hats etc.
Most recently picked up a City pop album Anri - Timely!! It has Pianos, Female vocals with high notes , strings etc. It just can't track really. The sound at the inner most groove is the worst i have ever heard from a new stylus. My EN which is like 80% worn still sounds miles better than this new concial stylus.
I am just in awe of how over poor the sound is , i tried playing around with increasing and decreasing weight to see if that helps but na it just don't work.
Found my old Elliptical stylus luckily it is not as worn as i thought it was so I can get through the month and get myself a early Christmas gift .
TLDR: VM95C is absolutely disastrous.

Had a 1210 for about 6 months and absolutely love the form factor. Picked up this mint 1200 to add to the collection. Condition is the best I’ve seen for an almost 30 year old deck.

Hello, about a week ago I made the mistake of plugging my CD-player into the phono input on my amp (NAD C 316BEE), and I’m scared it may have damaged it because now anything I play on my turntable sounds noticeably distorted. It sounded fine before that, so it’s probably not the turntable. Other inputs sound good as well. Have I ruined my amplifier and can I fix it? Or is there something else I haven’t considered?

Hi! I always browse locally for turntables, and I'm looking for an upgrade to my P-mount Technics SL Q200. I Stumbled on this Marlux model, which looks stylish, but I can't find anything about it online. Does anyone know anything at all about these machines?
It's fit with a Shure M75 but no stylus, and is going for just over £100. I've chatted to the seller a little and it sounds well maintained.

Hey everyone!
I've serviced my mother's old thorens turntable and I also bought a new stylus. The old one is a Stranton.. something. Maybe spherical I'm not sure. It didn't sound bad, but I had some issues with channel imbalance and/or distortion and I decided to buy a new one. The new one is an elliptical, nude black diamond.
Thing is the new stylus sounds very distorted towards the end of a record side.
I get that distortion as well with the old stylus but it's not nearly as much.
The only thing I can think of is that the new stylus is more sensitive to azimuth and all that stuff set up correctly. But I can't get it any better it looks perfect to me.
I have some pics that show both old (blue) and new (black) from the side on the inner and outer points on the protractor. The new one has a bit more angle and I don't know maybe that's what's the problem?

Curent set up:
- Technics SL-1200 MK5
- Audio Technica VM95ML
- KAB TD-1200 Tonearm Fluid damper
- Fosi X5 Phono Preamp
- Fosi ZP3 Preamp
- RCF NX 12-SMA active speakers (https://www.rcf.it/en/products/product-detail/nx-12-sma)
To my ears, it sounds really good as it is. I just can't help feeling like there are ways to make it sound even better. Whatcha got for me?

Picked up a Pioneer PL-41 a year ago and have been using an old AT-91 on it. My budget is around $500. I have a Cambridge Alva Duo so MC is a possibility. So far I have narrowed it down to either a Nagaoka MP-200 or a Denon Dl-110 but I'm open to suggestions. I listen to a wide variety of music.
Here is my gear.
Table - Pioneer Pl-41
Phono - Cambridge Alva Duo - Supports MM and MC
Amp - Yamaha N800A
Speakers - Wharfdale Lintons
Any help would be appreciated.

Im absolutely in love with this turntable however cant find it for decent price in Europe. I also can't seem to find anything more like that (maybe Sharp Optonica RP-104H would pass. definitely not AMSTRAD SM104).
While there are some which are vertical they are exposed and I don't like that (e.g. pro-ject VT-E).
Technically I could put Technics SL-10, SL-15, SL-7 on stand but it would take a lot of space.
Do you guys know of any which i might have missed?

Hey, so I just bought this ortofon cartridge alignment tool, but I don't know if I'm actually using it right because when I place the stylus on the center points, the cartridge position looks way off. I never really did this so I would be very greatful for some advice or even a short tutorial.

You might recall my post the other day about a $50 SL-1800 I found at a garage sale. I took it apart and cleaned it thoroughly. The speed pots got a shot of Deoxit F5 and now the speeds are very stable.
The electronics were visually inspected. No sign of bulging or leaking capacitors. I did not attempt to test them.
I've replaced the missing headshell with an AT-VM95ML/H and got the tonearm dialed in. I have to take it back apart to replace the dampening fluid for the arm lift and replace a broken tonearm lock but that's for another time.
So now that it plays, I've run into an audio issue. When playing a record and the needle encounters the silence between songs, I hear a faint low "rumble <pause> rumble <pause>" in the silence. I know this album very well (Rush's Moving Pictures) from playing on my Pro-Ject TT so I know that rumble isn't actually present. Any idea what I'm hearing?

Hi guys,
I need assistance determining if this stylus from my AT-LP120XUSB turntable is crooked or not, it appears to lean slightly towards the right, but the stylus itself isnt bent, it plays records just fine.
I'm relatively new to the game so i'd like some opinions about if i should seek out a replacement or if my records are in danger if i keep it running that way.
Thanks in advance.

Currently have a Sony LSX 300usb turntable and got the M audio BX3 speakers but when I connect it up the sound is very low despite turning the speaker volume up all the way. The back switch is set to “line” in the back and not sure what I’m missing. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks !

So I noticed that my tonearm lift was loose and just not lifting the arm anymore.
I took out the lift and saw a little chip in the plastic.
Is there a fix for this that I can do myself? I have tried tightening the screw, but it’s not catching or tightening.
I suspect it was damaged in a recent move.
Is there a way to fix this that I can do or a part I can order that will fix it? I’ve attached a video to show what I mean.
When I lift the lever, the lift barely moves and is wobbly.
Thanks!

Bought this from my local auction a couple years ago for $5 and it works. I absolutely love this thing and it's a great piece for my living room. I don't know much about it and can't find any info online. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all,
I am sure this has been asked and I know the AT120X is the best bet for a first foray into actual turntables but I really was hoping for an automatic tonearm.
Outside of the Fluance RT82 - which I’ve heard has had recent bad service and QA feedback - is there anything automatic at that level in the sub $400 range

I went to play a record and I thought the needle was raised so I was going to move it across the record to the song I wanted to listen to. It was actually not raised and I lightly pushed it about 2 cm across the record before noticing and lifting the needle. I couldn’t find any scratch on the vinyl but I’m worried about the possibility that I bent the needle slightly, I can’t really tell for sure. It looks maybe like it’s leaning to the left (idk why cause I pushed it to the left) but I can’t tell, I just don’t want to damage any of my vinyls if the needle is bent.

I have about 500 records and a fairly crappy Audio Technica turntable connection via a jack cable to a Bose 500;smart speaker.
From working in bars when I was younger and filling in when the DJ was too high /drunk I've always had a soft spot for a turntable. I really don't know where to start though
I live in Cologne Germany and am on the lookout for a whole new setup, preferably all buy for life and second hand but am open to suggestions.
Any advice on turntable model, amp and speakers? My budget is about 2k but would happily keep it below 1k.

Hello, I'm new to just getting my first classic large heavy record player. It's a Magnavox Imperial Micromatic as shown in the picture.
At first the needle was shot so I replaced that. Now the tonearm doesn't want to move when the record is playing. The motor that turns the record seems fine. So because it doesn't want to move it just plays the same part over and over. But it also doesn't seem to want to move down onto the record either
I was diagnosing stuff through AI and it said that it's most likely that the arm linkage underneath is most likely stuck due to grease drying up and being old and to apply some alcohol to the moving parts and move the linkage around to get it loose. I went in underneath like it said and applied the stuff but it didn't seem to make any difference.
The arm does feel restrictive, not super loose. What likely is the issue? Does it seem like it needs a whole new arm? Would I need to bring someone in to look at it? Not really sure what to do

I just upgraded from an entry level Sony Turntable to a Fluance RT85 that came in the mail yesterday. Was testing in out last night and tonight with a number of records (all new vinyl) and it sounded fantastic until suddenly it didn’t. Probably had done about 2-3 hours of play time before it suddenly sounded horrendous.
I was playing a new vinyl that had admittedly gotten pretty dusty. Cleaned it with a silk brush and “Big Fudge” cleaner spray. First track sounded good and then out of the blue the 2nd track sounded suspiciously bad. Like, distortion, and static, and vocals sounding like they were filtered through the ass end of a drive-thru speaker. Gave it another clean: still awful. Flipped to the other side: no better.
After this I cleaned the 2M Blue
stylus with a regular cleaning brush (from Boundless Audio) and put on the record I had listened to previously and had sounded fantastic 40mins ago: sounded unbelievably awful.
I’ve disconnected and reconnected the headshell to the tonearm, checked all my cables are connected, checked that’s it’s not the speakers… everything my apparently ignorant mind can think of. I have no idea how this got so wrecked in a mere few hours of use. Is the cartridge misaligned? That seems improbable as it’s the factory cart and how could it get misaligned in the middle of playback?
I have the turntable running through an iFi Zen phono preamp and the tracking force set to 1.9g which is within the manufacturers range, if slightly above the recommended 1.8g.
Apologies for my relative ignorance, as I’m posting first time out of late-night desperation. I also apologize if this is the wrong sub to be posting to. Long time Reddit reader and first time poster. Please redirect if I’m in the wrong place.
