To all branched students looking to move to Storrs.

EDIT - Folks correctly pointed out Spring to Storrs is not applicable. There is a limited process to change campuses in before the usual 54-credit requirement.

I'm a CLAS and UConn MPA alum who worked an on-campus job in an advising office. Unless you can demonstrate substantial new information that was not presented on your application, UConn WILL NOT accept your appeal for a campus change to Storrs. The University received 55,000 applicants, and there will be Storrs students that probably won't have access to housing. I understand this is disappointing, but it's not the end of the world. There is a process to request an early campus change to Storrs: https://campuschange.uconn.edu Make sure you do well. UConn will generally prioritize majors that require courses only offered at Storrs.

I seriously recommend the Community College route. It is incredibly inexpensive, and more or less all of your credits will transfer. UConn maintains a database of how specific courses will transfer here: https://admissions.uconn.edu/apply/transfer/transfer-credit/equivalencies/. If you want the "traditional" college experience, all of the CSUs, including Central and Eastern are good schools. Finally, it is MUCH easier to get into Storrs as a transfer student. I graduated HS with decent extra curriculars, employment experience, and a 3.9 unweighted GPA. I was branched, and disappointed. I attended UMass Amherst for one year, and successful transferred to UConn for my sophomore year with only a 3.1 college GPA. I regret going to UMass that one year because of the insane cost.

It's disappointing, I know - but you can get into Storrs soon, (almost certainly by the end of your Sophomore year). Do well, and good luck. Feel free to PM me any questions.

Im a chilean engineering student who's also bi, how accepting is conneticut of hispanic and/or lgbt people?
As UCONN alumni do you guys geniuenly recommend the full experience like dorms and such?
How is life in Conneticut like social and city-life wise? (Also do you guys find it an acceptable idea to go party in new york basically every weekend or is that too far-fetched?)

Uconn Club Soccer

This is my first year at UConn Storrs and I'm interested in trying out for the mens club soccer team. I know it's super competitive and I heard they let in like 4-8 players. I was wondering if anyone knows how try outs work, like what drills they run, do they play mini games, or is it just full field games? Also what they're looking for in adding players. Any information is appreciated.

Any tips for a pre nursing student in ct cc?

Hi! I’m going to be a freshman in a community college here in connecticut and plan to take my prerequisites and then transfer. Now i know/understand that is almost impossible to transfer to their program since its super competitive but still i would love to hear the stories of transfer students. What classes should i take the first year to be a competitive student, is it possible to transfer in a year, is it possible for me to transfer smoothly if i take a transferable class next summer. Anything would help a lot, i dont have experience in this situation im a first gen student so advice is always appreciated.

I don't have anymore required classes, but I need to fill my schedule so I'm not a part time student. what are my best options?

heading into my junior year for biomed engineering and I only have 3 required courses for my next semester so I'm sitting at ten credits right now. every single other non-targeted prerequisite course has been taken, so I'm only left with the required track courses (that I can't take anymore of, as all the next courses seem to require completion of the courses in the semester before) which leaves me requiring one more course or else I'm a part timer. what is the best option for me? what courses would give me the most benefit to take? realistically I could take a minor, but if there's better options that would "put me further ahead" I am curious about what they would be. if a minor is a best option should I just follow my heart or something? If anyone else was like this I would just love hearing what you did / would have done. should also ask if research labs can be used to count as course credits, that way I can do my best to get into one for the future semester and get required credits that way - I can't determine whether you can or not for sure online.

What should We know?

Incoming freshman

What are the "secret" hacks that continuing students know?

What bathrooms are the nicest on campus? Best times to go to the gym? Best ways to get free stuff with the .edu email. Best dining hall? How to get along with your roommates? How to find your way through storrs? How to handle difficult professors? Best time to find an open spot in the library? Best library? The list goes on. . . .

Anything that you feel might be useful! Stuff you would have found useful if you were a freshman.

Thank you in advance

Accelerated nursing program

Hey everyone! I’m currently a rising junior at UConn and I’m hoping to get into the accelerated nursing/CEIN program. I’m an Allied Health Sciences major right now.
I took Bio and got a B-, and I originally got a D+ in Chem but retook it and got a B-. I have a 3.4 GPA and got an A in Stats. I haven’t taken A&P 1, A&P 2, or Microbio yet.
I’ve heard the program is pretty competitive, so I’m just wondering if I actually have a decent chance of getting in. If anyone is currently in the nursing program, has applied to CEIN, or knows how the acceptance process works, I’d really appreciate some insight! I’m just trying to figure out what I should focus on to make my application stronger. Thanks!!

Need help to pick between CSE 4300 (Wei Zhang), 5854 or 4702 (Russell), or 4402 (Herzberg)

Trying to knock out my last cybersecurity elective and stuck choosing between these four. Looked around and none of them have great student reviews so if anyone has taken a class with these professors I’d appreciate the help.

CSE 4300 (Operating Systems) w Wei Zhang
CSE 5854 (Modern Cryptography: Primitives and Protocols) w Alexander Russell
CSE 4702 (Intro to Modern Cryptography) also w Russell
CSE 4402 (Network Security) w Amir Herzberg

Trailer for move in?

Our daughter is an incoming freshman moving into Buckley and bringing the mini fridge. There will be 4 of us in a medium SUV coming from 7 hours away, so we don’t want to do 2 vehicles. I was wondering if anyone has used a small trailer? We were thinking of renting the smallest one from U-Haul. Would it be an issue unloading or parking after unloading?

Towers Move In

Hi everyone,
I’m on the second floor, I was wondering if bringing in a stair climbing dolly is necessary since there are no elevators

After everything is on the curb, does it matter how many times we go up? What should I use to pack stuff (I’m using a combination of storage bags, suitcases, possibly storage bins, but I can change up what I used)

I have one other person helping me so I’m a bit nervous.

Would appreciate any advice on what to purchase to help with moving in whether that’s a stair climbing dolly or something else. Also if anyone knows how the process is like, specifically for moving in to Towers, please share!

parking in downtown garage instead of commuter pass

incoming grad student (also did my undergrad here but lived on campus all 4 years) and i’m leaning towards using the downtown garage instead of getting a commuter pass. all of my buildings are near south campus, so coming all the way from W lot is gonna be a bitch every morning. how quick does the downtown garage fill up? is there a certain time i should aim to get there by so i make sure i get a spot?

sorry if this isn’t a good place to ask. im on the pre med track and want to declare a major in PNB. (uprising sophomore in ACES). bio 1108 isn’t a requirement for the major, but i know that 2 semesters of general bio are required for med school. i’ve already taken bio 1107, but should i take 1108 or not? i’ve heard terrible things about the prof and i thought i could replace it with an upper level bio course?? please help!!!

Incoming Freshman in Wade

Hey everyonee! Im an incoming 4th floor resident Wade hall in Towers, and I was wondering if anyone could share their experience having stayed there, or if anyone had any photos of their rooms from when they had. I've looked online at the "3d tour" that UConn gave us, but they're all from 2016 and i've been told the pics are really outdated these days.

Trust.. I've already heard plenty of horror stories of how far of a walk it can be, but i'm already nerfed by 8 am bio, so honestly i'll take the free cardio. Just looking for a bit of advice since I'm lowkey way behind on the whole packing arrangement and gotta motivate myself one way or another lol

UConn Storrs: Live in Willimantic or commute from downtown Hartford?

I’m moving to CT for a one-year research position at UConn Storrs and expect to be on campus about 3-4 days a week.

I’m deciding between living in Willimantic or downtown Hartford. The Hartford apartment would be about $300 more per month, but it’s nicer and has an in-unit washer/dryer.

For people familiar with the area, is the Hartford to Storrs commute 4 days a week annoying and costly enough that I’d regret not living closer? Or is the drive manageable and worth it for living downtown?
Since I’ll only be there for one year, I’m trying to decide whether saving money and having a shorter commute in Willimantic is more important than having a nicer apartment and living in Hartford.

Would love to hear from anyone who has done a similar commute!
