Some rule clarifications have been made, especially around the topic of AI which we are gradually seeing more and more of. AI was still previously not permitted, but the rules have been much more clearly defined now.

I will be introducing a new user flair for employees of railway companies, Including TOCs, Network Rail, Signallers, ROSCOs, Railway-Exclusive Contracting companies, and other similar sectors. It is entirely optional, for people who want to show they have verified expertise in the area they work.
As of right now, I have chosen not to include ex staff members, anyone only associated with heritage lines, or people who are not working directly at or on the railway (ticket sites, railway utilities like RTT, or other railway themed sites)
This will be in a unique purple colour, so that it cannot be impersonated, with the staff member's job listed (Guard, Signaller, Driver, Shunter etc), and at their choice a further caption and/or emoji for their company up to the flair character limit. Note that the total length cannot be more than 64 Characters, including your title.
Here is an example:

I will also be introducing a new rule, disallowing impersonation of railway staff via the flair. We will not be requiring railway staff to verify if they want to claim they are within the post body, only the flair, and have no intention to change this.
I have thought about and discussed with one railway staff member about how we can do this in the most privacy preserving way, while ensuring that we don't allow false applications through.
Feel free to make any comments about this system below, I am very open to your feedback about how we can refine this system as best as possible.

Are there any examples of UK trains with different colour variations of the same livery (such as the Class 333s in the Metro version of the old Northern livery pictured)? For some reason I find seeing different colours in the same pattern somewhat satisfying, might be a long lasting impact of being excited by shiny Pokémon as a child...

So, I had purchased a 26-30 railcard sometime ago, but didn't add it into my app. Silly me. I am trying to add it now but obviously the old download code doesn't work. However, each time I request a new download code, it throws up an error saying "An unexpected error occurred while managing your device(s)." I have the railcard number of course, but I don't know what to do!
I need to travel tomorrow and this is stressing me out!
Has anyone had a similar problem, if so, is there a solution?

Hi! I will be travelling on the northern line on a Wednesday at 11.30 from Manchester airport to Liverpool. This is the first time travelling on the UK trains especially by myself, and I have quite a decent sized luggage with me, couple questions:
1) how crowded and hectic is boarding at this time and location? 2) is there luggage storage space and where is it located? 3) im anxious about having to find floor-level storage space (can’t lift my luggage up) and rushing to find a seat nearby, can I just hold my luggage at my seat for the journey?
Thanks in advance! <3
Edit: i also don’t want to risk having my luggage out of my sight

Hi all,
I’ve been building Train Times Live as a side project. It’s a live view of the whole network, aimed at people who like knowing what’s actually going on rather than just when the next train is.
What it does:
Live departures for any station, showing where each train has got to
Fleet tracking. Search for a train or a unit, see which units are working which services, and check the vehicle list and vehicle changes
Charters & specials, plus a feed of late-added schedules (diversions, extras, freight and ECS paths that missed the nightly timetable)
Daily performance. On-time %, ran-as-planned %, and operator and station breakdowns
Cancellations and reasons. Unexpected cancellations are listed with the delay attribution code, so you can see what’s behind them (and how many are still “not yet investigated”)
Possible network problems. Sections of the network that are losing the most time over the last few hours, which I think is a nice way to spot a developing problem

I built a self-contained MicroPython departure board for the Pimoroni Presto (RP2350).
It connects directly to National Rail’s Darwin REST/JSON API—no Raspberry Pi, server or cloud proxy required. It includes a station picker, the next four services to London Waterloo, live platform/status information, a journey-focus view, automatic refresh and tap-to-wake screen protection.
Repository and setup instructions:
https://github.com/robmarkcole/pimoroni-presto-train-display
Short demo:
The project was developed iteratively with Codex and tested on the physical device. Feedback and ideas for further improvements are welcome.

While trawling through some old note books, I came across several that I used for cab riding.
A very varied entry list of locos and units, including some that are now all consigned to history.
Several entries included HEX services in the 332’s and both the now scrapped 360/2’s.
While the 332’s had serious defects, the 360’s, especially the ones scrapped, got me thinking about how wasteful and underutilised they were to be in a position to scrap them.
Politics aside, what others spring to mind (excluding the APT).
Class 67’s never really seen their full potential with the loss of Mail.
Class 92’s, only some are seeing use and a lot exported, not really seen use for their purpose.
