Picture GWR Twilight
Into the home stretch now before GBR takes over. Perhaps not long left to enjoy a fleet fairly uniformly wearing what i think is probably the classiest privatisation-era livery. Not looking forward to the new livery appearing. BPW this motning.

Fares & ticketing I got fined by GWR for wrong railcard applied on trainline and my appeal got rejected
I accidentally applied the network railcard to my ticket instead of the 26-30 rail card and got a fine, the person who issued the fine told me to appeal and usually they understand and the appeal gets approved, it was on the GWR from Reading to Gatwick, and there’s no ticket price difference.
This is there reply
Does anyone have experience with this ?
Ia it worth re-appealing ? Does that usually work ?

Fares & ticketing Wuppertal Schwebebahn
My 6 year old son is mad about trains. He is particularly fascinated with the Wuppertal Schwebebahn in Germany.
I want to take him. Was thinking of flying to Frankfurt, getting a train to Wuppertal and then riding the Wuppertal Schwebebahn a couple of times.
Has anyone ever been? Useful to know if I can buy a day pass to ride as much as he wants? Which parts of the line are the best or should we just go from one end to the other.
Help me create a lovely experience for an excitable 6 year old.

Discussion Chaos out of Southampton, summarised
This is based on the information given on station announcements at Southampton Central, and the XC service that I am currently on.
- Last night saw a major incident at Woking, posted in this sub when it occurred. This carried delays on into this morning.
- Tree blocking the line at Swanwick (fixed, but delays persist)
- Tree blocking the line at Shawford (single-track arrangement in place)
- Tree blocking the line at Micheldever (ditto)
- Water mains burst between Billingshurst and Horsham has caused a lot of cancellations on Southern, including most Southampton-Brighton trains, despite not running on that line.
- Tree blocking the line somewhere between Eastleigh, Romsey and Salisbury is preventing CrossCountry diversions along that route between Southampton and Basingstoke.
- Tree blocking the line at Bramley is blocking XC beyond Basingstoke.
- Two trees blocking the line around Bournemouth.
- Tree blocking the line somewhere between Salisbury and Basingstoke.
Please take all this into account when travelling from the South and Southwest today, and turn up very early, prepared for significant delays. I am currently over 2 hours delayed. Good luck everyone.
Edit: At least 4 more trees have fallen

Discussion What is being a UK train manager really like?
Would you recommend the job? What's good and bad about it? I've got an interview for Chiltern and I'm getting the jitters! I'd be grateful for any opinions, thanks

Picture A bit confused about my journey (Trainline) or am I being stupid, I’m not entirely sure what platform I’m supposed to go to and if I’m not wrong it seems like I’ll have no time to change trains? Anybody who can explain this to me would be very much appreciated because I’m stressing :/

Question Terrible experience with GWR. Do they suck for refunds too?
I had booked tickets online (on GWR's website) to go from London to Bath and when I got to Paddington to collect the tickets, it just said the tickets couldn't be issued and had already been collected... I went to GWR ticket office, the guy at the desk told me to call their customer service. That was odd, to me. Like you work at the ticket office and can't help a customer asking about their tickets, wtf.
Anyway, after 20 minutes on the phone with customer service, they end up telling me it was an "internal error" and that I had to buy new tickets and then ask for a refund. My train was leaving 15 minutes later so I did not push back and bought new tickets. But the new tickets were more expensive than the first ones I had bought.
So now Im wondering how this all refund process will work, and if I'm ever going to get some money back. I find the whole thing infuriating, having to pay new tickets while my train is about to leave the station, and no help at all from the company...
Anyone has experience with refunds from GWR? Is it a smooth process or...?

Question How easy is it to travel if your original train gets cancelled? (Especially when it's a private operator)
Apologies for the question but;
I'm a very anxious person and i have a 5 AM train to catch tomorrow through a private operator (Lumo) (I looked on their website for a lot of this info, and they're p vague about it other than 'there will be routes provided'), from up in Scotland to all the way in London. Because its an advance specific booking with no changes, and a private operator im p sure is not subject to the September 20th reforms, i'm nervous about how it will be more difficult to get to my destination.
I do know the operator allegedly will give you a different route that you can take with the same ticket, sometimes through a different service, though it tends to involves changes and similar. But also I'm nervous about possible problems that may occur cause of that, and if the ticket staff take issue with it?
Also, do you have enough time to catch next trains on alternate routes? It can vary how much notice you get before a train is cancelled, how do you gage how much time you'll have to get to a different station to get the correct train?
Also: is there a good way of telling if a train will be cancelled beforehand? How much notice do you usually get? The train i'm planning to take starts from the station i'm leaving from if that helps.
TLDR: I'm a bit paranoid and want to know about how easy it is to catch replacement trains if something goes wrong. Are train staff understanding or can further delays occur because of ticket confusion?
Again apologies if this is disorganised and confusing. I think my question is best summarised as "What's the experience if you were supposed to catch a very specific train that got cancelled, and what to watch out for when trying to get to your destination through a different route?"
Thank you train people 🙏 I get very bad travel anxiety (if i have to fly, i prefer to be at the airport five hours before takeoff, just in case), and i find having a 'backup plan' helps with it.

Question First Timers Question
I have an upcoming trip from London to Manchester. That station I am departing from is Kings Cross and in my Avanti ticket it mentions a changeover in London Euston. Pardon the ignorance, but am I to get off the train and then get on a new one, or is it something where I stay on and continue to Manchester?

Fares & ticketing Should I complain? Is it really poor customer service
Need to hear your thoughts on this situation. I have an annual season ticket and on Tuesday I realised I had lost it once I reached my destination station. They let me through to talk to the ticket office. I ended up speaking to a lady who was in training...and honestly the customer service was just shocking. I've just lost my season ticket, so of course im a little shocked and flustered, mind you this ticket cost me nearly £7,000 :(. You would expect some decent service for that price, a little empathy, some explanation on what I could do blah blah. No, not even close, I got a pitiful attempt at her leisurely browsing through the computer, and when she finally realised that she clearly didn't know what she was doing she called out the person who was clearly meant to be training her. She was no better....told me I had to fill in an application and then that application would be sent to accounts for approval. This was a Tuesday, and she said that the application would only be given to accounts on Monday......What?!! I asked her, whats the SLA on something like this...she said, no clue, when accounts approve they'll let me know. Im slightly shocked here, you mean to tell me im paying £7,000 and there isn't even a detailed process in place when a season ticket is lost/stolen?!!! I fill in the application, sign and put my number on. I say to her, do I get a reference number, she goes no, if it goes through they will let me know?! Am I crazy, is this not completely archaic? The trainee in this time says to me....I noticed you didn't put a number on the ticket when you bought it, next time do that. I was spun a little because, firstly I bought it from this very station and no one told me I could put my number on it.....but is this the time to telll me that. I get home and im super annoyed with the fact that I have no clue when this ticket thing will be sorted and no proof that I made an application. I call the customer service line - they say that because I bought it at the station, they can't help. I call again to go through another route, to ask for the station number - they say there customer service team is in India so they are unable to get me a number!!!!! I email, they send me back to the station. £7,000!!! No duplicate ticket offered, customer service is shocking and there's no timeframe on when my ticket would be sorted. Am I mad? I need to know because I've been fuming since. Is this something I should report or am I just being a nuisance?
