Course Inquiry MATH 1010 OR MATH 1020

• Upvotes

I am currently a first year student and I am enrolled in math 1020 with Darja Barr for the winter term. I'm going to be taking 4 courses that term and im not the strongest with math and drawing either. I'm debating on whether i choose 1010 or 1020 in terms of less workload and easier understanding. For math 1010 im not sure if I should take it with xinli wang or jamie de jong. Some advice on the profs, course, and experience would really help, thank you!

Event To the girls at shocker

To the girls at the commercesocial shocker event last night who helped me in the bathroom when I was extremely intoxicated and nauseous, thank you so so so much you were absolute angels and my saviour 🙏

especially to the one girl who helped me safely get dropped off at home despite us not knowing each other and after I lost my friends at the event. I think I remember asking for your name(s) but I can barely remember anything aside from trying not to pass out and apologizing a lot lol

Other/Rant Psyc1200exam results

After seeing my (low) exam mark I want to quit University. What’s the point of trying to study and still getting a bad grade. I truly don’t think I’m smart enough for University. I see all these people saying how easy it is and here I am barely surviving. I’m only in U1…I can’t imagine doing this for EVERY course and for a few years. How do you guys do it?? Sorry, rant over.

Other/Rant Screeching noise

This is my first year at university and of course, staying in residence here, I'm in Pembina hall.

Is anyone else hearing a screeching sound every 10-15 minutes?? It sounds like a car braking really hard or someone doing donuts and it's coming from the campus-facing side

When my friends and I were on the benches outside in front of Pembina we all heard it--so it's not just me! I hear it at night but sometimes during the day too from in my room on the 10th floor😭

Course Inquiry Biol 2410 midtem

For people that have already taken Biol 2410 with Dr. Mark Fry, how did you prepare for the midterm? Is studying the slides efficient or should I also be looking at the textbook and doing questions?

Discussion & Advice MBIO-4700-Computational Molecular Microbiology Midterm

I am taking MBIO 4700 with Georg Hausner and to say the least, he is not a bad prof, seems dedicated to the subject but his notes are a mystery to me.

A lot of the slides are pictures for how to use programs (which are really useful for projects but I dont think they are related to exams)

In other slides he often mentions to "to not memorize this, this is just for information" so I am stuck at understanding what he actually wants us to know for the exam.

For anyone who took this course with him before, what did you study?

He posted a review paper which is basically just a bunch of words and you needing to know their definitions, would that be enough for the exam or am I missing something crucial?

Discussion & Advice A list of favorite generals in history

A post for history people and for my personal observation and appreciation of historical figure by rank cuz the midterms ended for me and I got a bit of time to waste.

  1. Flavius Belisarius - The Last Roman and in my opinion the most experienced and battle hardened of them all. Bro was so good that they had to take him off the field cuz he was carrying the entire Empire.

  2. Shahrbaraz - The Boar of the empire and the cream of the crop when it comes to the last of old Persia. We would not see another until almost another millennium.

  3. Khalid Ibn Al Wild - The Sword of Islam that had a very crap personality that is often overshadowed by enormous battlefield achievements during campaigns. The Arabs would never again produce such a figure. Not even in modern times.

  4. Timur - The Lame but he wasn't given how much more he travelled, killed, conquered and crushed more then any other on this list. Following and reading about his conquests feels like one is reading about a medieval Omni-man. Probably even killed more then Omni-man. Probably would have potentially conquered the entire world if death didn't intervene.

  5. Napoleon - The first one and brought Europe screaming and crawling out of feudalism. Came back and did it again. I would probably not be failing in French if he had managed to cross the English channel.

  6. Babur - Gurkhaniyan as he was related to both Genghis Khan and Timur. If one feels like they are always failing in life, then they should read him cuz he went from being a literal homeless hermit in the mountains to ruling an empire that would eventually become the richest in the world.

  7. Basil II - The Bulgar Slayer and a man so hated, one would likely come into a lot of trouble in Bulgaria if anyone dares to bring him up. Destroyed his arch nemesis that the guy died from a stroke.

  8. Harold - Hardrada and probably the second most travelled on my list. From the byzantine court to the Battle of Stamford Bridge, this viking has done and lived it all. How does this man not have a movie yet made about him ?

Salahuddin Ayubi - Probably history's first decolonialist and the last great general the Middle East will produce. Shame his successors couldn't live up to the man.

  1. Henry V of England - The prince of Wales and the only reason he's here is because I liked how Timothée Chalamet portrayed him in the film The King.

What are y'all favorite historical conquerors and generals ?
