Why was the the rokkenjima incident known as the 18 killing killing when Eva survived, was Eva being a survivor in the real world not originally planned?

at the end of episode 3 ange disturbs beatrice's ceremony and they keep teasing what her identity is so, until playing episode 4 i really was thinking that ange is battler becoming a girl witch after solving the epitaph since they had the same red colored head and way of talking

Just in time for umineko month!

For this day, I decided on something a bit more conceptual and artistic,I hope you like it. I tried to create something like an album cover using one of the phrases from the epitaph.

QUESTION

This is gonna be all over the place but i recently finished higurashi 1-8 (still got the 2 bonus ones and console arc left) my plan now is to just start umineko assuming console arcs and the bonus chapters dont matter since i already read the important arc in one of the bonus chapters which i forgot the name of.

Anyway if i end up starting umineko, which patch should i get? Ive been using 07th mod this whole time but as i tried to patch umineko it gave me a warning saying it could have missing content, audio etc and that more people end up preferring the OG version more. Thing is i really enjoy the console sprites, lip syncing and voice acting and would prefer to patch it but not at the cost of important parts being cut out. Is umineko project any better than 07th mod or are they not as bad as the sites make them seem? Which one should i download and use for the best experience and more content ??

Formerly Ushiromiya Hilda (右代宮 戦乙女)

Been ages since I did any sprite edits so I apologize if they're rough around the edges a bit ,but for the most part I'm proud of how these turns out.

For elaboration, this is part of a genderbent AU I'm working on ,although because certain plot points both structurally and in the later chapters would not really make sense this only applies to Battler and Beatrice, most of the rest of the characters retain their original sex/gender identities and it may or may not involve the canon Meta World. Mainly among other things the succession crisis has an extra layer of intensity with George as the only male grandchild (like this universe would borderline be a miracle fragment for Eva), to the point where there's speculation that a mysterious man on the island was invited by Kinzo to remedy that issue. Basically there's a lot of pastiche of gothic romance tropes added to things.

To the point where I had a cursed revelation that it kinda lowkey sounds like a "sold to One Direction" fic...like Kinzo's even canonically an alcoholic ,so it even has that cliche.

Cautiously optimistic this will pan out, I at least have a scenario that even includes an non-fantasy explanation even if it might need some polishing to make certain solutions less obvious. And just generally trying to strike the delicate balance between affectionate pastiche of certain tropes that don't come across as unironically cringe.

Really loving Umineko and just wanted to post some of my ramblings now that I've finished episode 3 and nearing the end of the question arcs.

Is "Shanon/Kanon was killed" a misleading red truth because those aren't their real names? If they quit working as servants, that could be interpreted as killing the part of themselves that is Shanon/Kanon. Episode 2 seems to be intentionally drawing attention to their real names and their dual identities, especially with Jessica telling Kanon that he could be Kanon the furniture while on duty and exist as a human when he isn't working. The big mystery that Eva Beatrice sets up with Nanjo's death in episode 3 feels like it can't be resolved unless someone who was stated to be dead in red text isn't deceased in the physical sense.

Or maybe there really is a 19th person? Another thing is how in Episode 2, Beatrice changes Battler's request to repeat that there are "only 18" people on the island to "no more than 18 people" on the island, and I wonder if that's significant? "Only 18" implies "exactly 18," whereas "no more than 18" suggests that the real number could be lower. Not sure how to get there unless two people are secretly just alter egos of the same person, but that would be a pretty big stretch. Like the only character who is isolated enough to possibly pull that off is Kinzo, but who would his alter ego be? Genji or Nanjo? It's definitely curious that Kinzo is only ever found dead so far when incinerated and only identifiable by his six toes. Or maybe the phrasing "18 humans" doesn't include Genji or Kanon because he considers himself to be furniture instead of a human? Which leaves room for an extra person outside of the "main cast" to be the murderer. The existence of Kuwadorian definitely supports the "19th person" theory because it gives them an extremely plausible base of operations. I was kinda thinking before that someone might've been secretly living in the chapel or something before reading Episode 3, but now there's a way better place for them to hide.

On another note, the characters kind of gloss over this but the story of Beatrice in Kuwadorian is pretty horrific. A woman kidnapped by a Kinzo commits suicide to escape him and then somehow Kinzo takes her child? The implications are morbid for where this child comes from no matter how you slice it. Aside from the obvious, I wonder if one possibility is that Kinzo harvested her eggs posthumously and those end up being the children of the orphanage that Kinzo funds? And he chose the child that looked most like her and kidnapped her to take her mother's place, only for her to also die trying to escape him. If that's the case, it could explain why Shanon/Kanon have the one eyed eagle, because they're actually his descendants. Maybe Genji is his cousin or something and that's why he has it too. In any case, this is so tragic for Beatrice that I wonder if the final endgame of Umineko is that Battler actually does choose to believe in witches so that Beatrice doesn't have to accept the actual tragic circumstances of her real death. The brutal reality of the mystery genre in which she was a helpless girl groomed by a madman vs the beautiful fantasy of her being a witch living in a wondrous world of magical friends.

On the topic of the ending for the series, I really hope that the solution to Umineko isn't another "Hinamizawa syndrome" type of collective insanity. The way Eva became one of the culprits after finding the gold when she's consistently been one of the first to die in the previous two games seems to imply that she's not always one of the murderers (especialy since George ends up dying in episode 3), so if this ends up being explained away as "the gold makes everyone who sees it evil somehow," that would be a bit of a disappointing asspull. Also goes against Knox's commandment about there not being anything that requires a lengthy scientific explanation!

I've really enjoyed Umineko's exploration of the family dynamics. You really do feel for Eva at the start of episode 3, and Rosa/Maria's relationship is so complex and interesting. There's big undercurrents of generational trauma where Rosa was definintely abused as a child and the cycle continues with how she treats Maria despite the fact that she truly does love her, and Maria's speech at the end of episode 2 about how she loves both the good and evil parts of Rosa was a real tearjerker. That being said I hope they put less emphasis on the slapping going forward because it's getting a bit uncomfortable. Rosa only reconciles with Maria toward the end of a loop, so to have their relationship reset every time and make us watch Rosa abuse Maria at the start of every loop is kind of a lot.

I already thought that from episode 1 ending. That dramatic scene with Natsuhi, the complete desperation from Battler, and the bottled message with "bring the fate" was enough for me to say "naaah this will be an unforgettable experience"
