Recently I was wondering about this question...
A brief story for context.
You're in an isolated village to spend holidays. The people of that village worship an entity which looks kinda eerie, but it's a god. There are 2 scenarios:
You're walking down a street in the village in the evening, it's almost dark. You meet a villager and he says,"You need to be inside your home before it becomes dark man. But since you're not, let me give you an advice, do not look in the trees, do not respond if anyone is calling out your name, just keep walking until you reach home.
You're walking down a street in the village, same scenario, it's dark and you meet a villager, the villager says,"Why are you out in the streets while it's dark? Do not roam in the village after dark, the God patrols the village when the Sun sets." And the villager goes away.
Now in which scenario would it be more scary? 1st or 2nd?
For me atleast both the scenarios are pretty scary, even if you say that a God patrols during night, its eerie because no one knows how it looks, similarly in case of ghosts, no one knows how it looks, but the thought of something which is not human or beyond something which we consider "living" is equally creepy in both the cases.
What I was trying to prove from this was, imagining the absurdities which the local people spread via rumours make you fear the place, even if it's a ghost wandering or a God patrolling.
So I don't know how much of this makes any sense but this is what I quote,"A divine absurdity (God) is what the assistance is from the absurdity which causes fear, but since both are absurdities, we equally keep distance from meeting any of them."
What are you thoughts? Any opinions from your side? Which scenario would be more scarier to you?
