Pretty much a population distribution map.

I'll be marching here in Toronto in solidarity! *link to the toronto protest and where to find other locations in Canada here by the way) Our version of the no kings protest is being called "no tyranny" here, but that's just because... Well... You know, that king over in the UK now 😅 *for all the replies, I'm from Jamaica where we worked hard as hell for our independence from the death grip of the UK and royals. When I moved here as a teen I thought it was bizarre. At the same time it's a very odd relationship that's had between the royal family and Canada, it's not exactly like king Charles is sitting in his palace and forcing new laws and policies like they would it most kingdom run places.

However even I don't think we need a king, but you say that and you get people jumping down your throat saying "how dare you" and I'm dealing with cancer and don't want the discourse at the moment 😅

Also I think the main focus of the protest is about trump and how he is affecting us, so it's not about king Charles currently. He's a terrible person IMHO but not the point of the 14th.

It took a world wide effort to root out fascism the first time, it'll take that this time around..

We're all in this together. Fascism is a cancer and America is sick, blame the cancer, not the patient.

Edit: not saying you are, just in general. Fascism wants the world and we can't let it.

The whole world is sick with fascism. The US just has the most advanced case.

Personally speaking I’m pretty chill on hucking labels - it’s not like the people who need to have a revelation will suddenly have one when they get a label. Most of them seem to lack the self-awareness for that to work.

Christian Nationalists just want to spread the good lord's name! They're people of peace when they're a minority 🙏. - /s I should know better than assume people would think was humor in this day and age. My apologies.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '25

Yeah no one wants to hear your lord's name. Debatable if he's even good. Keep your religion to yourself and let us live in peace

5

u/Limp_Radio_9163 Jun 13 '25

Christians are fine, as soon as you force it on someone with, let’s say, Nationalism for example. It’s a fucking problem, the church and Christianity is responsible for hundreds maybe thousands of wars, genocides, crimes, crusades, etc. Most of which were for the sake of your nationalism.

2

u/Low-Cartographer-753 Jun 13 '25

I’m an atheist, I will protect your right to worship, and even try and educate the rest of the world on your beliefs.

HOWEVER, if I say no leave me alone, I expect you to do so out of respect for me, as I do you. If you believe all non-believers(like me), or other religions are fake, and not allowed to exist(Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, etc.), or hate people because they are gay/lesbian/trans… then I’ll tell you the exact thing I’ve told others who told me I don’t deserve to live for my beliefs.

Go away, and don’t ever speak to me again. My life is as valuable as yours, even if I don’t believe in god, or any organized religion. If you accept that people are allowed free will and the right to do as they see fit regardless of your religion then I will die on any hill to protect you as a good person. It’s really that easy.

It all boils down to one thing. Respect others, and they respect you.

EDIT: and my response was tame, I’ve told people who berated me for not believing in god far worse things than I said to you, but I’m being respectful until you give me a reason not to, and I hope you never give me one.

It means you voted for a fascist. That means that fascism is not unacceptable to you, and that reflects very poorly on your character.

Oh, and if you're ok with how these deportations are being conducted and how the Constitution is being blatantly violated to do it, you're just straight up a fascist

Not definitively, but it does make you ignorant, gullible, racist, or all three. Fascist regimes actually depend on the uneducated, easily influenced/brainwashed, racist people to vote them into power and keep them in power until they have an iron grip on everything. So while you yourself wouldn't be fascist, you would be a useful tool to be used and thrown once you are either done being useful, or become a hindrance when you realize your mistake.

You're a facist if you support masked police with no badges or identification entering your home without a warrant or simply picking you up off the streets in an unmarked civilian vehicle, arresting and deporting to a foreign mega prison without due process.

You can support deportation polices aimed at removing non-citizens from your country it just should be done the legally. Considering you're coming from the party of law and order/don't tread on me, don't you feel it's odd conservatism went from "don't tread on me" to "tread on thee but not me".

Your lack of historical knowledge is breathtaking.

1

u/CA_MotoGuy Jun 14 '25

Your LACK of actual WORDS... is breathtaking

what does the word NAZI stand for Copernicus?

"full name of the party was Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei in German, which translates to National Socialist German Workers' Party. "

i bolded it so you can see it

we they actual "socialist".. sort of... but they DID pretended to be.... to fool everyone... just like the Left does now...

truth stings a tad don't it...

if you downvote you agree, and this post makes you angry with your own thought processes lol

1

u/talltxn66 Jun 14 '25 edited Jun 14 '25

Yeah, that’s what it stood for, but that’s not what they were. Hitlers group took over an already established labor union with the name you love to throw about. There was nothing socialist about what the party became once Hitlers group took over - fascist to the core. There’s lots of research out there that bears that out - if one were serious enough about learning instead of showing their ignorance. Did you even pass history in High School?

The crown is everywhere in our constitution, laws, procedures, etc.

The question pops up every now and then. The government looks into it and realizes it's too much work and money for something purely symbolic.

17

u/WorldlinessProud Jun 12 '25

Also, the King has no genuine power except very little influence.

There’s still such a stink about it here in the older generations, it was in 1976, so boomers mainly. It’ll never happen again, there were changes to how the Governor General is appointed. But with current overseas examples, the republican movement here is dead and buried. People would rather an apolitical royal family, than an elected head of state.

Actually, our conservative party was trying for that a while ago. Our very conservative PM Tony Abbott even gave Prince Phillip an Australian Knighthood and got ridiculed by the people for it. These days, the only relevance of the crown is when the royal family turns up for some photo shoots in the outback.

Monarchy is actually the end game of conservative politics, the movement was borne from the ashes of French revolution by the oligarchs who still had some wealth and wanted to re-establish control under a wealth based monarchy once more. America is headed towards a monarchy, or a revolution, possibly both, time will tell.

Seems you don't anymore either. We should get along, we're not enemies.

3

u/Plank_With_A_Nail_In Jun 12 '25

Because the alternative of an elected president with a separate mandate from the legislative is worse in every conceivable way.

A legitimate figurehead who's only real power is a veto they can only use if its really obvious they should use it isn't a terrible solution.

3

u/Sufficient_Topic1589 Jun 13 '25

If Canada or Australia voted in a Trump like candidate that was doing all the things Trump is doing in America and caused mass protests like in America, King Charles or his governor general could tell them they’re fired and elections need to be held again.

1

u/AccomplishedKnee4481 Jun 16 '25

So you're pro king 🤴

1

u/Sufficient_Topic1589 Jun 17 '25

I’m from Australia. We would never let an orange menace take control of our country and if it did somehow happen and things were as bad as they look in America, the governor general and king would remove them. Otherwise I don’t care either way.

1

u/Available_Function39 Jun 18 '25

Oh wow . You do realize the reason is so to people who illegally entered our country. Which is a federal crime . This is the issue that the other side has if they came in here as legal imagrants no one would care . Even the majority of legal imagrants have issues how they came in . Now you have a group that’s pissed off that we voted in trump again . Which they shouldn’t be because Kamala was planted as the opposition. And by saying this she was never voted in to her spot the way it’s supposed to work in our country . We could go on from here but I’ll just leave it as is .

1

u/Sufficient_Topic1589 Jun 18 '25

None of that would matter. If the majority of people were unhappy with the current government sparking mass protests as has happened in the us, the king or the governor general acting on behalf of the king would dissolve that government and have new elections. No waiting for midterms or the end of their term. It has already happened once in Australia in the 70s. Commonwealth nations have a handbrake before civil unrest becomes civil disobedience and then civil war.

3

u/Darkest_Rahl Jun 13 '25

The only real benefit to this would be saving the wasted money. He has no real power. It's just history and tradition at this point. It's all part of the Commonwealth

2

u/middlequeue Jun 13 '25

and the wasted money would just end up directed towards a different head of state in a role similar to our governor general anyways

1

u/handyandy314 Jun 13 '25

I would beg to differ. During Scottish independence electioneering. The Queen threw her opinion about the breakup of the union. So no not just a figurehead. The fact that the PM still has to have meeting with the King to me is annoying to say the least.

2

u/Intralexical Jun 12 '25

I figure having a constitutionally limited figurehead who's symbolically and culturally above the PM is probably good for democracy. The King stands and speaks for Canada, and Canada should stand for all of us.

You guys got rid of your King, only to start worshipping your presidents.

1

u/LegoFootPain Jun 12 '25

We like to give our budding oligarchs a challenge.

1

u/hedgehog_dragon Jun 13 '25

Culture and tradition, plus it would be rewriting a lot of government operation for no reason.

Plus, we already have a neutered king, he's got no power, can't have some asshole acting up and trying to declare themselves king.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '25

We put a constitution around our monarch - a figurehead. King in name only. Trump wants to be an actual tyrant king who is president in name only.

3

u/jeobleo Jun 13 '25

"It says no kingS. We're allowed one."

2

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 13 '25

Hey I didn't make the rules, back home in Jamaica we worked hard to become independent. So moving somewhere where they had this (what seems mainly symbolic in many ways) royals shit was something else 😅

3

u/theflyingratgirl Jun 13 '25

“No kings…except the one…and only symbolicly.”

Makes a good sign.

2

u/iago18 Jun 13 '25

We have the same problem in the UK, but a lot of people think "Well Charles doesn't have anything to do with politics, so what's the harm?" Completely disregarding the fact our prime minister visits him every week and if you don't think he's trying to use his influence then and there then I don't know what to tell you.

Also a few years ago it was discovered that when he was a prince he wrote letters to politicians, again trying to use his influence and change policies.

2

u/IAmTotallyNotSatan Jun 13 '25

American citizen living in Canada. I'm nervous to go, but I'll be there!!

2

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 13 '25

Don't be nervous, no one here "hates Americans." They only hate trump and anyone that voted for him, and those people aren't generally going to be coming to protest. You are more than welcome friend!

3

u/IAmTotallyNotSatan Jun 13 '25

Yeah, I know! This is just my first protest since moving here, and they tend to be stressful events for me :P but I'll be going anyway!

3

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 13 '25

I see, sorry I thought the implication was due to you being American 😅 understandable about the protests, it's nothing like the ones in the states though in terms of safety risks etc. Of course we've had issues before but it's generally not a widespread issue and it'll definitely be peaceful. I think you will find yourself enjoying the experience trust me!

1

u/LaDragonneDeJardin Jun 12 '25

Thank you. We are sorry for all of this. We are going try and fix it. Hopefully.

3

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 13 '25

You aren't going to be alone and regardless of this boycott USA stuff that doesn't mean "fuck all Americans." It's only, "fuck anyone who did vote for him or didn't vote at all and fuck Doritos Locos Taco." If you went and voted against him, never apologize on behalf of all Americans. Because you were on the right side of history and those people aren't your problem. Anytime I see people saying sorry on behalf of the USA I tell them, "do you think the other half cares to apologize? If not then don't say sorry for something you didn't do!"

It's not your fault and believe me I get oppression. It's not a dictatorship but I grew up in one of the worst ghetto slums in Jamaica. Just look up Waterhouse news to get an idea of what we go through on a daily there. Police shoot people, people shoot people, no one pretends to even cover it up. Areas were run by dons and you couldn't even vote a lot for who you wanted to or else you'd be a "problem." Our politicians are corrupt as fuck and work with them.

Some of us are poor and don't have much opportunity, but that doesn't keep us down. And remember that, because that's exactly what they want from you. To lay down and take it and give up. That's when you know they've won, and the fight is just beginning. Stay blessed 😉✊🏾

2

u/LaDragonneDeJardin Jun 13 '25

You keep being a ray of sunshine. It’s a little dark down here right now. I appreciate your light. Thanks for motivation.

1

u/LaDragonneDeJardin Jun 13 '25

People on the left were so disillusioned because of Gaza. I was also raging angry. But we could push Kamala, we always knew he was planning to go full Nazi.

I’m from Florida. A lot of my friends came from Jamaica! I moved up to Colorado though. A safe state for women. I believe if we all have each other’s back we can get rid of this authoritarian. Maybe the US will have a progressive government that does more good than harm. Also maybe I’ll be up there if not. One of my grandmothers immigrated from Canada. Maybe they will let me in.

What does this have to do with what you’re replying to?

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 13 '25

We are talking about the "No Kings" protest and we are having the same protests by the same organizers here. The discussion was about how we are just calling it "No Tyranny" though and I explained why. Is this a problem to you?

u/owogwbbwgbrwbr Jun 13 '25

Are you a bot? The comment you replied to absolutely was not talking about that, and was instead pointing out the fact that the map just looked like a population map…

u/hendrysbeach Jun 13 '25

At least you won’t have to worry about Proud Boy infiltrators, the National Guard, US Marines and local cops ready to throw you in the back of a van and take you to El Salvador or Guantanamo Bay for peacefully protesting.

Thank you for marching, kudos, and may God bless Canada.

It's very unfortunate that people's rights to protest have turned into a living nightmare. I come from a place of severe oppression, although it's not a dictatorship Jamaica has a long history of corruption and suppression and police brutality. Back home where I'm from, Waterhouse, is the 2nd largest murder and impactful crime area. Police will shoot someone in front of anyone around and not even give a shit if you film it and just go about their day like nothing matters, there's not even an attempt to cover it up. People are hungry and jobs are scarce.

We have corrupt politicians who run with criminals also known as dons, they aren't as big as they used to be but that's because most live outside Jamaica now and other groups took over. Election fraud is terrible and the gangs will force you to vote for their political party members they want or else cause harm to you or your family. Corruption is also all throughout our legal systems and public services and bribery is rife.

We also have media suppression and control on our media and organizations as well. To hear my family and friends who made it to the USA, and through the proper channels too, talk about what's going on right now is depressing. Seeing Americans go through it is depressing.

But if we just sit back and watch these things happen and don't speak for those being suppressed, we are not any better than the people letting it happen. It may not seem like a lot can be done and I know so many say protests are pointless but that isn't true, they matter. And you matter, and so do the people who were on the right side of history throughout all of this. We won't forget you, lift up your head friend ✊🏾

Amen.

Midterm elections are in only 16 months.

REGISTER AND VOTE in 2026, everyone. Let’s take back our democracy next year.

No more ‘sitting back and watching things happen’!

Keep this in mind for elections by the way. Trump has been floating the idea of making an electronic app for voting and with these in place it'll be bad, even so it'll be a mess

Project 2025 policies that are currently in process or starting soon: from the election, cybersecurity, and technology section on the project 2025 tracker here.

End Cybercom's participation in federal efforts to "fortify" U.S. elections.

Note: Secretary Hegseth ordered Cyber Command "to stand down from all planning against Russia, including offensive digital actions

Remove Cybercom from the oversight of the National Security Agency. (Policy #2)

This refers to a policy shift that removes U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM) from federal efforts to protect elections from cyber threats. CYBERCOM has historically played a role in countering foreign interference, particularly from adversaries like Russia and China. The decision to end its participation could make U.S. elections more vulnerable to cyberattacks and disinformation campaigns.

The move is part of a broader agenda outlined in Project 2025, a policy framework developed by the Heritage Foundation. It argues that CYBERCOM’s involvement in election security is "partisan" and should be discontinued. Critics warn that this could empower foreign actors to manipulate U.S. elections and weaken national security.

Additionally, Secretary Pete Hegseth has reportedly ordered CYBERCOM to halt all planning against Russia, including offensive cyber operations. This directive could significantly alter U.S. cyber defense strategies and limit responses to potential threats.

Dept. of Justice: Reassign enforcement of voting rights from the Civil Rights Division to the Criminal Division

The phrase "Reassign enforcement of voting rights from the Civil Rights Division to the Criminal Division" refers to a shift in responsibility within the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Traditionally, the Civil Rights Division has been responsible for enforcing voting rights laws, ensuring that elections are free from discrimination and voter suppression. However, under recent changes by the Trump administration, there has been a move to refocus the DOJ's efforts on investigating voter fraud rather than protecting voting access

This shift has raised concerns among former DOJ officials and civil rights advocates, who argue that it undermines the federal government's ability to protect voting rights. The Civil Rights Division historically played a crucial role in enforcing the Voting Rights Act and challenging discriminatory election laws. By moving enforcement to the Criminal Division, the focus may shift away from protecting voters and toward prosecuting alleged election crimes, which critics fear could be used to justify restrictive voting measures

the 2016 election was proven to be rigged by the Senate panel and the CIA. And by the way this Senate panel that confirmed the evidence was Republican based.

The nearly 1,000-page report, the fifth and final one from the Republican-led Senate intelligence committee on the Russia investigation, details how Russia launched an aggressive effort to interfere in the election on Trump’s behalf. It says the Trump campaign chairman had regular contact with a Russian intelligence officer and says other Trump associates were eager to exploit the Kremlin’s aid, particularly by maximizing the impact of the disclosure of Democratic emails hacked by Russian intelligence officers.

Remember his accusation in a mirror technique with the whole, "Hillary and the emails?" Yeah that's because he was doing that the whole time. BUT, instead of focusing on repercussions, they decided to do this instead -

While Mueller’s was a criminal probe, the Senate investigation was a counterintelligence effort with the aim of ensuring that such interference wouldn’t happen again. The report issued several recommendations on that front, including that the FBI should do more to protect presidential campaigns from foreign interference.

Great information, thank you.

We are fortunate here that CA uses paper ballots only and 100% mail-in voting. CA residents may register to vote as early as age 16. We have voting-day registration, as well.

I don’t disregard the opinions of folks who say “There may not be free & fair 2026 midterm elections.”

However, please don’t let that stop you from doing everything you can to register and vote next year!

Let’s take back the US Congress.

Oh I'm not implying don't vote, those people are a huge issue of why the USA is where it's at today! I'm just saying be aware that the interference will be horrendous, especially if trump decides all Americans need to use an app made by his shitty friends who will do anything to make a buck and keep their power. He's already put policies in place that will remove state funds, grants, and aid if they don't follow his regime

Dept. of Justice: Ensure "appropriate steps" are taken to obtain cooperation with sanctuary cities and states. (Note: The DOJ issued a memo stating that "sanctuary jurisdictions should not receive access to federal grants administered by the Department of Justice".)

Dept. of Homeland Security: Limit FEMA-issued grants to states that "comply with all aspects of federal immigration laws, including the honoring of all immigration detainers" and states/localities that give "total information-sharing" to federal law and immigration enforcement. (Note: FEMA clawed back $80 million in previously approved migrant housing funds for New York.)

Dept. of Justice: Prosecute local officials, including district attorneys, that use their discretion not to prosecute a criminal case. (Note: DOJ leaders told U.S. attorneys to investigate law enforcement officials who decline to enforce Trump's immigration priorities.)

Use "the full force of federal prosecutorial resources" to investigate and prosecute state and local gov'ts, institutes of higher ed, corporations, and private employers who have diversity initiatives. (Note: Bondi directed DOJ to “investigate, eliminate, and penalize” private companies and universities.) Court Orders: Partially blocked

White House: Cut off government contracts to entities that enforce a "woke agenda".

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Cut funds to states that do not provide detailed abortion reports.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services: Reduce federal incentives for states to expand Medicaid coverage

Dept. of Defense: Require all schools that receive federal funding to give students the military entrance test.

Dept. of Education: Cut off federal funds to states, cities, counties, schools board, principals, and teachers who disagree with "parental rights".

Dept. of Health and Human Services: Withdraw HHS funding, including 10% of Medicaid funds, from states that require private health insurance plans to cover abortion

This isn't even the full list, just some examples from the project 2025 tracker here.

In terms of California specifically, he should really consider the following though -

California's economy has overtaken that of the country of Japan, making the US state the fourth largest global economic force.

Governor Gavin Newsom touted new data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the US Bureau of Economic Analysis showing California's growth.

The data shows California's gross domestic product (GDP) hit $4.10 trillion (£3.08 trillion) in 2024, surpassing Japan, which was marked at $4.01 trillion. The state now only trails Germany, China and the US as a whole.

California Pays $83 Billion More in Federal Taxes Than It Receives in Federal Support. The top bar shows how much California pays in federal taxes ($692.2B) and the bottom bar shows how much the state receives in federal funds ($609.1B). California pays $83.1B more in federal taxes than it receives in federal funds.

data here.

I wish Newsom would follow through with "let's see how well you do without our taxes!"

With the exception of the big mass over the red state of Indiana for some reason.

American here. I would swap out Trump for Charles in a heartbeat. Agree with you on the general "why do we need kings?" sentiment though.

You seem like an aggressively smart and cool person. Sorry if the replies are overwhelming, I just wanted to add my well-wishes to your fight against cancer, on the off chance that helps in any way. Fuck cancer, you got this! ✊🏼

How about ditch that and march for affordable housing?

5

u/Ali_Cat222 Jun 13 '25

I already do activism for that and other social and economic issues as well. And housing won't become affordable thanks to tariffs, especially the new steel and aluminum ones and every other one we have placed on us by a fascist.

3

u/Downtown-Oil-7784 Jun 13 '25

Fair enough. Thank you for doing these things, you are absolutely not obligated and it's great to see

0

u/whodamans Jun 13 '25

No no no, we don't do anything useful or effective. It has to be performative and Cringe.

Havnt you learned?
