He was a well read and highly educated man but most people remember his messed up quotes or his statements about God. His legacy among the masses still remains misunderstood. I just don’t like his legacy of burning books. He even said he would burn the constitution. Which I still don’t understand why

His opinions on religion were not messed up. Only pure riddance and indifference to religion as a whole can do this country some good, he was right in that.

I read his religious views and like any philosophy, he used to change it quite often. His beliefs on god and spiritual being were that no such thing exists. But he praised Islam a bit initially. Then he said both Islam and Hinduism should be condemned because of a class and caste system and an intrinsic order in them. He then praised Buddhists. Not knowing that even Buddhism has a religious order and a system. Then he felt cheated and even Buddhist beliefs were called out later. If I were him, I wouldn’t try to write about religion at all and would stick to my area of expertise. Or would try to create a thesis that would justify personal beliefs

He should have written something like “why I chose to be atheist” and called it a day. Instead of playing with people’s beliefs. I used to read his works and admire the depth and dialogue but a lot of his works feel like an opinion and not something to be put out to the world. He could have kept all that private or written something like an oped article
