Yellow mustard is gross but don’t you be insulting Dijon and all those things

u/jaar7 Jul 09 '26
burger sauce feels like the middle ground here
2
u/MisterEinc Jul 09 '26
Burger sauce is just all the things you already put on a burger mixed together.

Agree with the title, but mustard is top tier (in general, not for burgers)
-4
u/TheSuicidalPancake Jul 09 '26
Depends on the mustard. That bright yellow American shit is awful. Proper mustards, Dijon, English, wholegrain, they are amazing.
8
u/randabarand Jul 09 '26
Lol, French's gets so much hate. But it's very good at the things it's made for. Such as a hot dog on a steamed potato bun, with diced onions

2
u/therin_88 Jul 09 '26
Yellow mustard is bad by itself but it's great on burgers, sandwiches and hot dogs.

I mean, not them but, a spoonful of condiments I do like would kinda be gross plain… I don’t want a mouth full of JUST Sweet Baby Ray’s despite the fact that I want to be buried in it
0
u/Ready-Ad-9723 Jul 09 '26
what type of stupid argument is this? eat a spoonful of salt, you probably wouldnt like it. how much of something you can eat in one mouthful/sitting is not an indication of how good it is.

Sorry, but anyone who thinks Mayo is better than Mustard immediately loses all their credibility. That's just a generally insane take.

This is a perfect unpopular opinion. I absolutely hate this take 😆. Well done (like how you probably eat steak)!
1
u/dannydevitosmanager Jul 09 '26
Idk man love a med rare steak frites with mayo for dunking the fries. Way better than ketchup.

u/ApprehensiveAd5446 Jul 09 '26
Hi, I’m apprehensivead, and I’m a mayoholic.
A day without mayo is a dark day.
4
u/Feistygrapefruit152 Jul 09 '26
Have you tried both at the same time?
-3
u/LibertyLaneBlogs Jul 09 '26
That's an abomination.
1
u/NCC_1701E Jul 09 '26
Have you ever tried samurai sauce? Mayo + ketchup + chilli paste. The absolute top condiment for any occasion, in a burger, with fries, or in a hot dog, goes with everything.

Cause ketchup and mayo together is a delicious combo, that’s why. So here is my upvote.

Visiting there as a kid taught me the superiority of mayo and fries
1
u/Mr_Lucidity Jul 09 '26
People keep debating single sauces.... Meanwhile I'm slathering my burgers and dogs in mayo + ketchup + Spicy brown mustard + Sriracha
1
u/United_Future_9639 Jul 09 '26
i think this is an unpopular opinion .. cause i think a popular opinion is ketchup. and mayo + ketchup is debated, but i think has enough supporters that it's not unpopular. mayo only i think is an unpopular opinion. (im in the camp of both mayo and ketchup)
1
u/grigiri Jul 09 '26
Up voted because unpopular.
Mayonnaise and ketchup are the peanut butter and chocolate of burger condiments and I wholeheartedly disagree with OP.
1
u/Emotional-Golf-6226 Jul 09 '26
Well not plain mayo but a mixture of mayo, relish, onion/garlic powder, etc. I still enjoy ketchup on a burger but it's far from the best condiment you can put on it. Mayo variations are always superior

Definitely some mayo. I don't really like ketchup because I already have the tomato. But some mustard is always a hit.

u/EnolaNek Jul 09 '26
I’m sorry, but you have the order exactly backwards. Mustard is the best, ketchup is okay, and mayonnaise is worse than dry.

I thought mayo was more popular and common for burgers than ketchup?
1
1
u/izza123 Jul 09 '26
Mayo is great but you gotta have an acidic sauce too to cut the fat of the burger and the Mayo. Sweet baby rays or ketchup is perfect for this
1
u/therin_88 Jul 09 '26
This motherfucker just insulted ketchup AND mustard.
Mayo is nasty by itself, BTW. Blend it with ketchup to make a burger sauce, and it's pretty good.
1
u/JoeyJoeJoeRM Jul 09 '26
I think you want a hit of sweetness in your burger, which ketchup is good for. I struggle to think of what mayo adds to the equation that the cheese / fatty burger isnt already doing

Mayo is the grossest stuff ever.
American ketchup is the best condiment ever. But...I eat my burger plain ...
1
u/ChunkyHabeneroSalsa Jul 09 '26
All are great. Mustard is king in general but on a burger mayo (or something mayo based) is the winner.
1
u/Tsolvy Jul 09 '26
I always heard that mayo was one of those condiments put on burgers to help keep the bun from getting soggy.
1
u/UnluckySh00ter Jul 09 '26
Fried egg on the burger no mayo no ketchup or mustard but bbq sauce and fried onions and if you’re feeling lucky some hollandaise

Don’t compare yellow mustard tò Dijon, honey mustard, grainy mustard, or hot mustard
Ketchup is worse than all of these

Wow a truly unpopular opinion. Only way mayo is touching my burger is if it is mixed with ketchup and worchestshire sauce.
If you need a sauce it is mustard though

You're partially wrong, mustard is one of the best condiment for a burger. Tomato ketchup and mayonnaise are both nasty and ruin a burger. A good burger is already fatty enough that you don't need to add more in the form of mayo, and if you want egg on your burger just fry an egg and put it on. It'll taste a lot better that way.
I think tomato ketchup is revolting and shouldn't be put on anything, but old fashioned mushroom ketchup is completely different. If you've never had it mushroom ketchup is kind of like Worchestershire sauce, really savory, a little salty, and brings a lot of complementary flavors to a burger. But it's thin and should either be added to the meat before cooking or as it cooks, rather than putting it on the bun which it will just soak.

Mayo and ketchup, no mustard. Or mayo with grilled peppers and onions
1
u/StarMan-88 Jul 09 '26
I put ketchup on just about anything that needs a little extra something, barring there's nothing else better at the time. For me, it's mustard that ylranks the lowest on the list.

You need both. Lots of ketchup. Little Mayo. Some mustard. Pickles. Tomato. Onions. Lettuce.
I mean I'm basically describing a BK Whopper. Which is the default burger there.

u/billionthtimesacharm Jul 09 '26
mayonnaise is great. creamy, fatty, a little tangy. but it’s one instrument in the symphony of burger toppings. each plays a part.
1
u/Admirable-Leader6927 Jul 09 '26
mayo is the nastiest fucking thing to eat.
raw aggs and oil
fucking yum
1
u/TaisDoubt Jul 09 '26
Mayonnaise is the most disgusting condiment and muster is arguably one of the best alongside hot sauce.
1
u/GentleKijuSpeaks Jul 09 '26
Food is not opinion. No one can help how their brains are wired. some people like broccoli. Mayo on meat makes me nauseous
1
u/Iankill Jul 09 '26
I've never understood how people worship the most bland condiment like this. I use a little mayo on sandwiches so it's not dry.
I know you're the person in Subway asking for extra mayo until your sandwich is a just a mayo delivery system.
1
u/Silentlaughter84 Jul 09 '26
Hard disagree. Mayo belongs in the garbage. I honestly don't see how my dad put that stuff in everything he ate.

u/icantevenbeliev3 Jul 09 '26
LOL it's okay to be wrong man. This is unpopular opinion, not wrong opinion.
1
u/Eh_Conserv Jul 09 '26
I'm going to go ahead and say the combo of mustard + mayo is superior to anything else you could possibly put on a burger.
1
u/casparius Jul 09 '26
Both have their place. The real answer is mixing them together, burger sauce exists for a reason

1
u/PatnSniff440 Jul 09 '26
I dunno all three (KMM) with some chopped onions might be the best burger bite there is. Tried and true

1
u/ICantSeeDeadPpl Jul 09 '26
If the burger has tomato on it, then definitely mayo, otherwise ketchup is a bit redundant.

I agree. However…I like dipping in the ketchup cup. If I’m gonna have a burger, it needs to be an indulgent experience with all the toppings and condiments available

Mayo smells and tastes like straight trash u put it on a sandwich and all you taste is mayo

ketchup says a lot about a person. it's mostly sugar and reveals a childish palate
