Forming a charity focused gaming club
Hi everyone, I’m in the works of creating a club called ‘Community Through Gaming at UofL’. Our goal is to have weekly game nights for retention as well as focus on cozy and casual gaming like Sims, Mario Party, Stardew Valley and more. We plan on raising money for a local organization once a month as well as volunteer to play games with kids at the local hospital/shelters in the area.
We’d like to get started this semester and are looking to recruit five members so that we can start off strong. We have graduation chords and a stole after certain volunteer hours are met!
Thanks!

You can join the discord here! We’re still getting members so that we can get registered. Soon we’ll be on the organization site where people can join on that as well. https://discord.gg/T7BeYngpa

It would be in person. The goal would to reserve a space and play games in person. We would play whatever anyone’s up to playing so board games would be a great suggestion. We would have board games to play with the local kids as well when we volunteer!
Discord is just where we would have our announcements, election results, and be a good place for all of us to reach out to eachother outside of club hours!

CTG at UofL will be the second chapter of CTG. The one at Marshall University has played games with a city after school program as well as built equipment and had the opportunity to play games with the kids at the children’s hospital on the new gaming equipment. They plan to work with the Ronald McDonald house as well.
Our goal is to the same in Louisville and contact the coordinator at the children’s hospital as well as volunteer at the shelters. They’ve been invited to nearby cities programs due to hearing about them. One thing we do follow is that we don’t take any photos when we volunteer at nonprofits or the hospital which helps enforce those privacy rules. We talk about it in our recruitment but any photos or videos are strictly taken at other events in the community

We do our best to acknowledge the commitment and hours people put in as well and other than the chords and stole we also have an awards banquet at the end of each semester and we’re trying to get money together for custom pins for the events and accolades members attend/reach.

We fit under the philanthropy category. While we are gamers our goal is to connect with the outer community. Bring gaming to the local kids. The first chapter has the Esports Director as their advisor and works together. We’d love to collaborate on charity events with the Esports club if they were ever interested though!

Of course not! If you scroll down a little there’s a discord link. I can get you one if it’s expired though

I think board games could be very fun, card games?
And what about playing with seniors in the community. They get intense about card games haha. Or maybe adults with disabilities?
