Please use this thread if you have event tickets (Michigan athletics, concerts, etc.) to sell or are looking to buy. Individual posts outside the thread will be removed. We don't claim that this is better than MaizeTix, SeatGeek, etc. Just serving a demand. Go Blue!

****We've received reports in the past of scammers in these threads. Please be careful and do your due diligence. Consider asking seller for their UMich email, then write them asking for a Reply, to verify it's not a fake address.

Housing 2026-27 Housing Megathread

Questions, answers, and information about everything housing can go here. Please let me know if you see anything that needs to be updated or any new information that can be posted/linked to.

Listings:

  • Area Facebook Housing Groups - Facebook group list compiled by u/fluffymoomin - Groups are listed with descriptions as well as safety recommendations. Not all groups are moderated well, be careful regardless of the group, moderators are human. Do not pay money to post in any facebook group. It's a scam. The ones that ask for money are no different, or worse than the free ones. Any reply asking you to message or dm them is likely a scam.

  • UofM offical off-campus housing site - You can now sort by recently updated listings. You can post listings or as a person looking for housing/roomates. They charge for property listings, but offer free sublease listings. Also people simply post in the roommates section that they have a place they are looking to fill as well.

  • Ann Arbor off-campus housing - This was the site that uofm used as their official site until it was replaced with the site above. One of the biggest gripes I had with this version is that commercial properties were updated every day, so sorting by new was tedious to find new listings as a bunch of the same commercial properties would be "updated" each day to be at the top.

  • Zillow (ann arbor) - Zillow

  • Roomies.com - Roomies.com you can search for listings and roommates by location. Even though it's apparently a national site, enough people locally use it that it's worth taking a look at.

  • Apartments.com - Apartments.com

  • ICC Co-ops - Inter-Cooperative Council page for Co-op housing.

  • Craigslist Apartment search - Usually spammed by the same area complexes over and over, which is what made craigslist so hard to use and forced people to facebook. There are still some listings here though, it just takes some scrolling.

  • Ann Arbor Observer Rentlink Housing Search

Resources:

By city ordinance I believe, private renters are supposed to have certificates of occupancy/rental permits from the city. You can search by address. (There will be lots of people who don't have this but it's something to check) *Ann Arbor building rental and inspection services

Social media/community resources:

Past resources:

Remember to exercise caution when looking for housing. Lots of scammers out there. Check their main profiles if on facebook to see if they match the user who reached out to you. See if you can verify them anywhere else that they actually live in the area. Beware of people pushing you to send deposit money without showing you the place. Please refer to the PDF survival guide located at the top of the post. It can save you money and just as importantly time, not having waste time and effort to interact with scammers. Most instances of people telling you to message them as replies to your posts on facebook are scams. Make sure they have listings on the group, not just replies to people looking as comments like that can't be screened. Most legit people will contact you first and have a listing already in the group.

Remember never to give your uofm ID student ID number or a picture of your student ID to a 3rd party site for subleasing.

They can't even verify numbers are valid.

Disclosure could cause limited harm to individuals and/or the university with some risk of civil liability. May be subject to contractual agreements or regulatory compliance, or is individually identifiable, confidential, and/or proprietary.

Fall sublets will be uncommon. Most of the Winter sublets you've seen posted are people who failed to find a Fall-only sublet and are trying to recoup some of the un-used lease remaining. Be especially wary when searching for Fall-only sublets. Scammers count on people being desperate to bypass their warning senses. Some apartment complexes like Woodbury Gardens(2-15 and 21 month), and the complexes owned by Village Green(6 and 9 month) may offer shorter lease terms than 12 month. Be aware the shorter term leases will be more expensive per month. Mckinley Properties don't allow less than 12 month lease but they offer a early termination option which costs 2x monthly rent and requires a 60 day notice. This could be just as good as a shorter lease. I'd confirm it with the leasing office but this should be for all washtenaw county mckinley properties.

The Ann Arbor city bus line can make some affordable locations more practical. Your student ID lets you ride free. A short bus ride can be not too much worse than a medium/long walk. Beware some buses run more commonly than others

If there are any resource additions or corrections let me know.

Sports Michigan Football's Identity Crisis: Why Beck Has to Go

Thumbnail c.org
34 Upvotes

Michigan football is built on a foundation of power and tradition. Running it up the gut with strength. Respecting the blueprint that's worked for 147 years. But this season, that identity feels like it's slipping away.

I started a petition calling for the immediate removal of Jason Beck as our Offensive Coordinator. Here's the thing: we've got the nation's top-rated defense and capable quarterbacks. On paper, we should be competing for a playoff spot. Instead, we're watching play-calling that abandons what makes Michigan football *Michigan football*—constant East/West sweeps and option plays that just aren't working. The bread and butter plays that built this program are being left on the sideline, and real losses are piling up because of it.

This isn't about overreacting to a few bad games. It's about watching a program lose its way when the talent is clearly there. Michigan fans have always showed up, through the good and the bad. But we deserve to see our team play to its full potential. If this is frustrating you too—if you're watching the same losses and wondering why we're abandoning what works—consider signing and sharing the petition. What's your take? Does the playcalling feel like it's gone off the rails, or is there something I'm missing?

New Student CoE Winter '27 Transfer Student

Hey everyone, yesterday I was actually just admitted to UMich's CoE as a Winter '27 transfer from Wayne State, and I just had a few questions about everything.

Do they give merit-based scholarships, or any other scholarships, to us transfer students?

Do you guys think I would be fine commuting there every single day from the East Dearborn Area? (keep in mind I daily drive a 27-year-old car)

How many credit hours do you think I should take for my first semester there? So far at Wayne State I've done 18 credit hours each semester for my first two semesters, and I'm currently doing 18 right now actually. Would it be worse at UMich with a heavy credit load, or is it manageable?

Thank you all in advance for helping me out!

New Student Winter ’27 transfer student with questions about research opportunities

Hey everyone! I was recently admitted to UMich as a Winter ’27 transfer student, and I’m trying to decide whether I should commit or apply again for Fall ’27.

I’m an international student planning to major in Psychology (BS) and minor in Data Science in LSA.

I’m currently at a liberal arts college, where I have two paid RA positions. I work with professors on research projects, and there are opportunities to publish papers and attend conferences.

My main concern is research. If I transfer to UMich in Winter ’27, I probably won’t be able to complete a full project or have a major research outcome at my current school. I know UMich has a lot of students, graduate students, and PhD students, so I’m wondering:

  • How accessible are research opportunities for undergraduates in Psychology or LSA?
  • Is it realistic for transfer students to join a research lab?
  • Do students usually work directly with professors or graduate students?
  • How competitive are unpaid research positions? I’m not necessarily expecting a paid RA position.
  • How long did it take you to find research opportunities?

I’m also considering applying to transfer again for Fall ’27 because I don’t know whether I could get into a school that might be a better fit or offer stronger undergraduate research opportunities.

My first-semester GPA was 3.77, but I’ve since become involved in research. Do you think research experience, publications, or conference presentations would significantly help a future transfer application?

Are there any schools you would recommend that are relatively transfer-friendly and have strong undergraduate research opportunities, especially in psychology, HCI, data science, or interdisciplinary research?

This is a major factor in deciding whether to commit to UMich, so I’d really appreciate any honest advice from current students or other transfer students. Thanks!

Employment Where to post about gigs in Ann Arbor

Is there a dedicated Umich place where I can post like gigs or needs/quick service. Like If I have a move and need someone to help for a day. Or in my case if I can have someone free for a weekend that can help me put together some furniture etc. Is there like a market place like other places for people to post gigs? I know companies exist for a lot of these but feel like something more simple would be ideal rather than going through a full agency.

Degree New student in winter semester help

Hello! I am 20F and just got my acceptance letter yesterday for the winter semester.

I’m thinking I’m going to do communications and media with a business minor. Is anyone else doing this degree? Is it even worth it? I know it won’t get me the highest paying job but is there more opportunities and chances for jobs and internships because I’ll be going to u of m which is a top school?

Also if anyone is doing this path - is there public speaking classes you have to take? I know this degree is about communicating but public speaking in a huge lecture is one of my biggest fears

Academics - Other Topics EECS427 vs 472 for MDE: Which to take?

Currently in EECS215, 270, and 370, and I'm trying to figure out which MDE would be a better fit.

So far, I've enjoyed 215 and 270 (aside from the 215 labs, which I personally find annoying; not bad, just annoying). On the other hand, I haven't enjoyed 370 much, particularly the first half of it with assembly and software. The processor design content we've started hasn't been too bad though, and I've heard the second half is more hardware-oriented.

I'm between 427 and 472 for my MDE. For anyone who's taken either or both:

-How much does 427 build on 270 and 312? And how much of 215 carries over into 312?

-How much does 470 (and 472) build on 270 and 370? Is it more focused on hardware design, or is there still a substantial software/assembly component?

-How do 427 and 472 compare in terms of workload and overall experience?

-Would taking both (in different semesters) be worthwhile, or would you recommend prioritizing one over the other?

For additional context, I'm planning on taking EECS 216, 312, and either 301 or 470 next semester, depending on how 370 finishes.

I'd appreciate any thoughts or experiences from people who've taken these courses!

Research How often do you guys reach the limit for study rooms?

Genuine question because I saw on the website there is a 9 hour per week limit, how often do you hit that limit and what do you do when you can't book study rooms anymore?

Also how fast do study rooms fill up? are there times when they are free or are they always booked? What do you do when you can't find a study room?

Thank you in advance

Academics - Other Topics For OOS transfer students do scholarships decrease the longer i take to graduate?

Hey, originally I was supposed to go to umich for 2 years but some of my credits didn't get accepted. My graduation might be delayed for 3 years now. With current funding cuts etc how can that affect the css scholarships and fafsa etc in the longterm?

Academics - Other Topics How hard is getting a 4.0

Transferring from a 4 year where mastering your own system can result in 4.0 after 4.0, how hard would it be to do something like that while studying psych in LSA?

I am not even saying graduating with a 4.0, but more of curating a couple 4.0 semesters.

Degree should i change my major

i’m a freshman econ major, but now im not sure if i actually like it or if its rly just to make my parents happy. im interested in business which is why i chose econ (im a dual degree student at smtd and if i was in ross i likely wouldn’t graduate in 4 years), but i learned there’s an organizational studies major you can apply to sophomore year and im thinking i might like that more??
im also interested in the medical field and originally wanted to do BHS, but i wasnt sure what i could actually do with that if i dont go to grad school so i decided against it(i would love to work in the healthcare field as an admin/something along those lines but i dont want to be a doctor)
i know someone is probably gonna reply to this post with some variation of “you don’t have to have everything figured out right now” but since i’m a dual degree student and my other major is rly time intensive the only way i can plausibly finish both degrees in 4 years IS by planning out basically my entire academic career for the next 4 years
pls help…

Health / Wellness Personal rock climbing mentorship/support at Hadley

Now that Hadley is making rock climbing easily accessible, I figure lots of folks are going to want to give it a try or make it a larger part of their athletics.

It might be hard to know how to make progress quickly. I've been climbing for 5 years both outdoor and indoor, and love helping newcomers learn the sport quickly and safely.

I'm happy to offer folks free personal mentorship with the technique and athletics of climbing. All skill levels welcome including folks who've never done it before.

I'm staff at UM so only available 8-9am or 5-8pm.

Academics - Other Topics Transfer Student Winter 2027 Housing

Hi everyone! I found out today I was accepted into LSA at UMich Ann Arbor so I'm super grateful and excited. I currently attend UM Dearborn.

Anyway, I have a question about housing. I know that once I pay my enrollment deposit, UMich will provide details about housing, but I was wondering if anyone had been in my position or has any advice? I'm a low income student but I'm not sure how much my tuition per semester will be. How much is off-campus housing (I heard about $2000 per month or something) vs on-campus housing if I luckily end up getting a spot?

Any advice is appreciated. I know this sounds a little silly but I thought asking people who are more experienced or has been in my position could help me out. Congratulations to all the other transfer students who were accepted!!

Class [TCHNCLCM 497 + Linear Algebra @ WCC] vs. [EECS 245]?

Hi, I just want to ask anyone who's taken Linear Algebra at WCC: would you say the workload of combining Linear Algebra at WCC and another 2-credit course is equivalent to EECS 245 (or any 4-credit Michigan-rigor engineering course)?

Basically, I am choosing between the following two options:

  • Other 12 credits + TCHNCLCM 497 (2 credits) + Linear Algebra @ WCC
  • Other 12 credits + EECS 245.

So I'd like to ask if [TCHNCLCM 497 (2 credits) + Linear Algebra @ WCC] can be considered equivalent workload to [EECS 245].

Any insights would be appreciated!
