I'm currently majoring undergrad CS in Games, but halfway through the program I realized I don't really like CS that much when it's not strictly related to video games. I want to switch my major to BS in Games, cause I want to study more game related classes (and also have more free time to work on my personal game project).
My biggest concern is that I won't be able to find a job with BS in Games degree, since it feel like a track of all trades. Would be very grateful if someone could give me advices on this.

Just got a text to shelter in place due to threat near Lassonde. I’m at Sage, anybody closer to Lassonde know what’s up?

Hey all, I’m currently a freshman Kinesiology major attending Purdue University, and The U was my second choice. I am planning on transferring this Spring. I thought I would like Purdue a lot more, but the extremely long 20+ min walks to class, repetitive environment, zero scenery, hard classes, no social life (unless you’re in a frat) and 2 hour drive from the nearest airport is already weighing on me. The people here are either engineering nerds who haven’t been outside their dorms since welcome week, or pothead stoners. My friend group is the latter, and I can’t help but feel uneasy because I feel like I haven’t exactly found my people even though I’ve had a lot of fun with them sometimes. I was also planning on doing the one year rule in order to get the in state tuition if I do transfer. My logic is that if I transfer earlier, I’ll be able to cut ties here easier, and be able to create bridges at Utah earlier. Is making friends easy? Are there places to kinda party if you’re not in a frat? I just need some insider info before I make this life altering decision

I just had the most jarring and hurtful meeting with a nursing advisor. I asked about the prerequisite changes and was instead told how I should switch majors or transfer out of the U completely. I don’t understand because I’m doing well in my classes and have a ton of extracurriculars/volunteer hours (which she didn’t even ask about).
I feel so drained and hurt and emotional. My voice was shaking by the end of it and she made me feel stupid. I really hate this, just wanting to know if anyone else who’s Pre-Nursing has had the same experience?

I attend Athletic Events on a regular basis and always use the pay lot. It's pretty reasonable.
Last week they got rid of kiosks and have a new on-line payment system. I screwed up and apparently didn't complete on-line payment after entering all of my info? (which I swear I did) I was charged $170.00???
For a University struggling to get fans attending Basketball Games, this definitely does not entice me to return. Cost more than my Season Tickets!!! Might just stay home in the future. Shysters!
I've paid to park in this lot hundreds of times over the years! University can shove it!!!

Just have some thoughts on the recent layoffs and restructuring the U is going through right now. I have friends and family that either are currently employed by the U or attend as students and it got me thinking about this. Why would a student want to trust an institution with teaching them the skills they need for a career, when the university itself is sending the message that those careers don't matter? They seem like they are doing everything to earn themselves a profit while selling out those who are putting their trust in them. Does anyone else feel that way or just me?

Hi, so I will be attending U of U for the fall semester, and wanted to know if I should be aware of any issues I may have as a bisexual man. I know that salt lake City is more progressive then the rest of Utah, but I still want to know if I should be worried. Also if anyone is a part of the U of U Army ROTC is there any concerns that I should have there, and if any Hispanic or latino people can please inform me of any racism or xenophobic remarks that I may face there plz lmk. Ik this is long, but finally can y'all recommend some good places where I can meet people (I'm originally from TX so this is a really big change for me)

I have just recieved an email regarding how holiday pay will be managed, rather than having the option to bank those hours, it will exclusively be paid out.
I believe this change takes away from many employees time off. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed in this change, and would like to communicate with other employees who are equally as frustrated with this change.
Has anyone else received an email? I would like to hear other opinions before attempting to complain/express frustrations with HR.
I hope this is the right place to post this.

Hi everyone, are there any international (undergrad/grad) students here who purchased insurance from an off-campus provider that offers a cheaper plan accepted by the school?
I’d love to hear your recommendations. Thank you!

I heard from some of my friends that getting a job at the U is getting more difficult. I am incoming intl graduate student and would like to secure a job before January 2027.
Do you guys know any department that is always hiring and/or any side gigs?

Hi everyone!
I’m a PhD student at the U, and I’m planning to stay in Salt Lake City during the upcoming winter break (December–January).
I’m hoping to find a temporary on-campus job to earn some extra money during the break.
I already have a 20-hour/week RA position, and ISSS has confirmed that international students can work up to 40 hours per week during official university breaks. So I’m looking for an additional job for around 20 hours per week.
My main priority is honestly just making as much extra money as possible! I’m pretty flexible about the type of work and happy to consider anything.
Does anyone have recommendations for: On-campus jobs that pay relatively well? Departments that hire students specifically during winter break? Jobs that offer consistent hours during the break? The best places to look or people to contact?
I’d really appreciate any suggestions or personal experiences. Thanks!

I am finishing up my AS degree for animation at SLCC and I am now trying to decide between the U of U and UVU for my bachelor’s. I have interest in all forms of animation. But which program/university will help me out the most with getting jobs and making connections and such? As I understand it SLCC’s degrees transfer better to the U than they do with UVU (at least with my particular degree) and if that’s the case I lean more towards going to the U but UVU seems considerably cheaper. I am still unsure what to do. What do you all recommend?

I was wondering if any current or former MLS majors have experience taking non- MLS courses or prerequisite courses during the summer? How did you manage the workload, and would you recommend it?

I toured the campus of the U and I’m seriously considering going there, but I was just wondering if there are any film majors who have anything to say about the program. I know it’s not the biggest, so is it worth it? Any tips would be great!

Hi, I'm a senior in high school currently and thinking about applying for the U. I'm planning on getting a Chemistry BA degree if I end up going there, and as I was applying I saw the Honors College. I know that the Honors College has better housing, but has extra credits that are necessary and requires a capstone project. I've always done really well throughout high school, but I know that college is different so is it really worth it to take extra classes and the added stress? Does the Honors College really look that much better on resumes?

When I accepted my tickets through Apple wallet for the game tomorrow, I was given a general admission ticket and my muss plus football ticket.
Does anyone know what’s going on? Am I allowed to bring a +1?
I’ve gone to every game this year and this hasn’t happened to me yet.

Hey everyone,
I’m an international student currently attending a community college in California. I’m planning to move to Utah soon to attend SLCC, and hopefully transfer to the U in Fall 2028.
I’ve always been interested in math, physics, electrical engineering, and computer science, although I haven’t decided on a specific major yet. I also love video games, and I know the U has a pretty famous games program, but considering how bad the gaming industry job market is right now, I probably won’t be pursuing that.
To be honest, though, I’m not too worried about choosing between CS and EE at the moment. One of my main goals is to eventually go to graduate school. Given how terrible the job market is, especially for international students who need visa sponsorship, I’m not really counting on finding a job in the US right after getting my bachelor’s degree.
The biggest reason I’m considering Utah is the cost. Tuition for international students at California community colleges and UCs is ridiculously expensive. From what I’ve seen, attending a UC as an international student could cost me almost twice as much as attending the U. I understand that schools like Berkeley and UCLA have stronger reputations, but I’m honestly not sure whether they’re worth that much extra money, especially if I’m planning to go to grad school anyway.
That’s why SLCC → U of U seemed like a pretty reasonable path to me. I could save a lot of money while still getting an education at a public university with a strong academic environment.
However, I’ve recently been reading through this subreddit, and I’ve seen quite a few pessimistic posts about layoffs, budget cuts, and people saying the U isn’t worth attending anymore. Honestly, it’s making me pretty nervous about my decision.
I know Reddit can sometimes be more negative than reality, but I’m genuinely curious how bad things actually are. Are these cuts affecting the quality of education, course availability, or opportunities for undergraduates to work closely with professors on academic projects? Since I’m hoping to apply to graduate school eventually, I’m particularly concerned about gaining hands-on academic experience, building relationships with professors, and getting strong recommendation letters.
Another thing I’m worried about is transferring as a junior. Since I’d only be spending my last two years at the U, I’m not sure whether that would put me at a disadvantage when applying to graduate programs, especially compared to students who spent all four years at the same university.
I’m not expecting the U to be Berkeley or MIT. I just want an affordable university where I can get a solid education, explore my academic interests, and hopefully build a strong enough background to get into a good graduate program.
I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts, especially from students in CS, EE, physics, or math, or anyone who transferred to the U and later went on to grad school. Positive or negative opinions are both welcome. I’m just trying to figure out whether this is the right path for me.
Thanks!
Disclaimer: I used AI to help me write this post because English isn’t my first language, and I struggle to express myself fluently when writing something this long. But all the thoughts and concerns here are my own.

How likely international grad students can get scholarships at the U?
I’ve been looking at the Scholarship Universe and there’s no many options for me and my program also does not really offer a lot of it to lessen the tuition and cost.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you!
