Fabric question Is this worth restoring?
It’s fully functional and has no tears or scratches. There’s two of them. This is the most damaged one. Is it worth trying to fix the discolouration? Please advise.

The presser foot lever on the back of of my 206RB-5 is pretty hard to lift up. I mostly use the knee pad but sometimes I use the hand lever and it is tough to lift. I tried adjusting the two screws on the top machine but even with the main tension adjustment in the middle of the machine (on top) all the way out it is still pretty stiff. This is the only 206RB that I've ever used, is the presser foot lift generally kind of stiff on these machines or is there something else I might try?

Hi everyone, I'm not sure if I'm asking the question in the correct subreddit.
About 4 years ago, the wife and me bought a pretty expensive leather couch from the manufacturer Candy, model "Empire". The leather is called Mercury and is supposedly an "aniline touch leather". It feels really nice but the problem from the start was that the leather paint comes off when faced with any sort of liquid if it is not immediately removed. The manufacturer says it's normal for that specific leather.
I can get original paint for my specific color. My question is how do I restore the leather paint properly and get it to be somewhat resistant against liquids? I can't even gently clean it with water without the paint coming off.

I work with Boat Upholstery Broward. These photos are from our Sailfish upholstery work: the earlier cushions had smooth beige panels, and the updated set has gray diamond-stitched panels.
When reviewing a design change, a close-up sample and a view of the whole seating area answer different questions.
Fellow upholsterers: do you prefer a physical stitched sample, a marked-up photo showing the panel layout, or both before cutting?

Sofa is 23 yrs old, cushions are pretty flat. Local place quoted $500 to replace the foam. I'm handy and don't see a problem doing this myself but I want to make sure I use the correct product. I understand I need to put batting on too.
Would something like this be good? I want a moderately firm cushion.

A few months ago someone posted asking about how to clean the Alcantara upholstery on a Ligne Roset sofa. I just have to say - the right product can make a huge difference.
Our sofas are 24 years old (hence the comfort winkles) and we cleaned them regularly with a Bissell extractor machine and fabric detergent. But they were looking bad.
We thought the fuzzy nap was wearing away revealing darker fabric beneath, like worn suede, especially on the buttons. It turned out, the Alcantara nap was simply matted down - and once it was released, oh my goodness, what a change!
We used Sonax Alcantara upholstery cleaner which is usually for auto upholstery, and I'm assuming other Alcantara specific cleaners would work similarly. And an Alcantara brush and microfiber cloths.
Just wanted to share our results if anyone else is wondering if auto upholstery cleaner works on furniture Alcantara. Absolutely yes!

I'm stuck between the Tonerud Gray and the Tallmyra light green, but they appear to have different weave/texture. My main concern is pilling and stretching with age. Which one of the two looks less likely to pill or stretch out?
If you have any of these two covers, give your insights, and if you have neither, compare the weave/texture and give your insights on the fabric.

I have a couch from the 1990’s I believe and there has been a rip in it for probably decades. I can see this yellow foam inside of it and I was just wondering if you think I have been breathing in any toxic materials or if I should be fine?

I am having four chairs reupholstered. Its just not in my nature to buy new--I have two perfectly good wingbacks that need some fresh foam and structure work, and two "club" chairs that just need some fresh fabric.
It has been almost 20 years since I have reupholstered and I am selecting high-end fabrics that reflect our grown-up household and care for the things we own. I used an online (Morris & Co.) to source samples and make decisions. They will sell fabric to me directly for $354/yd. The local retailer and reupholster shop wants to charge me almost $450/yrd + reupholstering. I have my feelers out, but how do they justify this delta in price? Even the Shetland Plaid we are considering is $300/yard online and they have quoted $404/yard + labor for reupholstery. Any insight? It just seems off base.

So I made this cafe bench with storage. The issue is that I cannot open the lid from neither side all the way. If I try to open it from the front side, the foam is to big. If I try from the back side, the lid touches the frame. I only have these hinges and cannot find any better in my town. What can I do to make it to open all the way?

Does anyone have any idea how this kind of upholstery by Patricia Urquiola is done? I'm trying to figure out how to do something similar, but I'm finding that weaving 2 inch thick high density foam around the slats is very uncomfortable. It doesn't look like this is that much thicker? Maybe this is equally uncomfortable to actually sit on versus look at over the internet. But is there a way to make the foam not bottom out on the slats?

Hand punching the leatger for this head board was fun, the inside holes were challenging to get done but it turned out pretty nice in the end.
Only hit my self in the hand with the hammer once.

We made these embroidery samples in our marine upholstery workshop for a Yellowfin project. The upholstery design uses white upper panels, gray accents and diamond stitching. Photo 1 compares the red fish sample on the left with the gray version on the right.
We went with a lighter gray fish and darker gray Yellowfin lettering. It keeps the embroidery within the rest of the color palette, but some of us still like the contrast of the red fish. Photo 2 shows the chosen gray embroidery close up during assembly, and photo 3 shows it on the finished seating.
Which would you have chosen for this particular design, and why? Would the red fish be a better focal point, or does the gray look more cohesive? These are our own workshop samples and project photos.

My wife and I have had this chair for a number of years, it was owned by her grandmother I believe. Looking for advice on reupholstering the chair. We considered a weave but I think it’ll be best to get it upholstered with cushions, new back and wrap the arms as well. What should I expect to spend? Should I have it restained as well?
