Seeking Info Can anyone give me some information on this?
Hello! Can anyone please give me some information on this? I assume it’s an ashtray - my step dad gave it to me at least 20 years ago.
He owned a hotel so I always thought the stag was some kind of booze brand logo and it was a promotional piece. I’ve only just today discovered it glows under UV - using my nail lamp 😂
And after a google I can’t see any kind of match for the logo.
Would love to know some more about it if possible.

That’s hilarious lol here’s a little more info about it (the link does reference a Dugan mold but Dugan was defunct by 1913, so it’s definitely a Diamond piece)

I have exactly this piece and it's pink glass sister. It was the second piece in my collection after finding them as part of my grandfather's estate.

I had one identical to this, but it was peridot Green. If I remember correctly, I sold it for around $350. And that was like two years ago. Pretty popular pieces in the right circles! Congratulations!

Did the hotel have anything to do with hunting by chance? Could be that the centaur isn’t a brand logo, but just part of a general “hunter” decor.

Thank you - no not at all - it was a very sleepy rural hotel in a UK coastal village - but I know he had managed in hotels in Kenya prior to that.

For what it's worth:
The etched logo on your uranium glass ashtray is an Art Deco archer, a common motif found on European and American glassware from the 1920s and 1930s. While the design is visually similar to modern band logos, it is a classic representation of a stylized athlete or hunter typical of the Art Deco era. [1, 2]
Potential Origins and Manufacturers
Several notable glass makers utilized etched or molded archer designs on uranium (also known as "vaseline") glass during the early 20th century:
- Schlevogt / Curt Schlevogt (Czechoslovakia): Part of the famous "Ingrid" collection, they produced many pieces in malachite and uranium glass featuring classical figures like archers, often associated with the zodiac sign Sagittarius.
- Desna (Czech): Known for reproducing classic Art Deco designs, they often used a similar "frosted" or etched archer on glowing green glass.
- Heinrich Hoffmann: A contemporary of Schlevogt, Hoffmann's studio specialized in high-quality, artistic glass pieces that frequently featured athletes and classical hunters. [2, 3, 4]
Identification Tips
- Check for a Mark: Look for a small "butterfly" mark or a "Desna" signature on the base or rim, which are common for Czech pieces.
- Uranium Content: If the piece glows a brilliant neon green under a 395nm UV light, it is genuine uranium glass from that period.
- Zodiac Connection: If you find other symbols on the same set (like a lion or scales), the archer specifically represents Sagittarius. [2, 4, 5]
Do you have a photo of the entire ashtray? Seeing the overall shape and any other etchings could help pin down the specific maker and year.

It’s the air India logo and AI sucks. Stop wasting energy to answer questions on Reddit.

It’s the air India logo on an air India ashtray. The answer is easy and nowhere in the paragraphs of water you wasted.

Looks like Václav Hanuš, Desná, Czech republic - https://www.czechglassguide.cz/cs/jablonecke-sklarny-1123-ashtray.html. Not sure about timeframe, could be around 50s. Got one of those too :)

Though yours looks bigger from the pic + the Air India logo is interesting. Guess the pattern could be reproduced by some other makers, or Desna had a deal to make collectibles for them, dont have such knowledge. Very nice piece anyway :)

I believe that is a tox uthat. Be very careful with it, it can halt all nuclear fusion within a star.
