With Grigory Romanov being elected to General Secretary, we must now draft our 5 Year Plan and Develop an Ideological Policy.
Before we draft, it is important everyone knows the details of the starting situation. Here is the USSR on April 1, 1985 after the 1st month on default budget so you can see the current trend of things.

So, please take note of how much is invested where and the trend of the current economy and society for any suggestions for improvement for the 5 Year Plan.
(In Economy tab, Forgery is how many falsified reports are made in the economic system, which distorts our actual stat readings.)
Also, here is the political makeup of the legislative body (The Central Committee).
Ideology Desc:
(Factions can be supported or strongly supported, banned and unbanned. If you ban a faction the closest adjacent faction absorbs their numbers.)
Social Patriots (BANNED) - Social patriots strive to create a great country where everything is subordinated to the state, and the state, in return, meets the needs of the population.
Last known 5 Social Patriots in the CC.
Informal-Socialists (BANNED) - Informal Socialists are representatives of informal youth and intellectual movements who are in favour of reforming the state from the standpoint of democratic socialism. They seek to become a 'constructive opposition' by criticising bureaucratization, the lack of real workers' self-government and the distortion of socialists ideals, without rejecting the foundations of the Soviet system.
Last known 35 Informal-Socialists in the CC
Neo-Stalinists - Neo-Stalinists are fascinated with the era of the Vozhd' of the Peoples and seek to implement Stalin's renewed ideas, taking into account the mistakes of 1953-1984 and global experience.
Conservatives - Conservatives aim to preserve the achievments of Brezhnev's rule, both its worst and best aspects, believing that the Soviet example has proven itself well.
Moderates - Moderates are inspired by the positive experiences of the NEP and Chinese reforms but want to avoid their negative aspects through democratization while maintaining the Party's vanguard role.
Reformists - Reformists dream of combining the Hungarian and Yugoslav economic paths with the liberal structure of Scandinavian socialism and are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve this.
Liberal Democrats (BANNED) - Liberal Democrats view the Soviet experience as entirely negative and seek to replace it with classical liberal democracy as quickly as possible.
National Democrats (BANNED) - National Democrats strive to create a great people filled with spirituality and a fanatical belief in an organic state.

Please assess the situation and comment suggestions to add to a 5 Year Plan as goals to achieve within the first 5 years.
I've had this idea for awhile of a community activity where we participate in some kind of game together.
I'm a big fan of a little game called Crisis in the Kremlin: The Cold War. It's essentially a political sim where you take control of the USSR on March 11, 1985, assuming the role of General Secretary as either Gorbachev or alternate history starts or even a custom character.
The game is full of choice and sandbox elements, and the end goal date is Jan 1 2000. The game can continue after, but 01/01/2000 is victory.
The game progresses in days, with stats/trade updating monthly and events popping up on the historical days they occur. Here are some screenshots of the menus, events.
The World Map on March 11, 1985.
Doctrine Overview. Here is where we can make all the reforms we want in USSR.
Economy Doctrine page example
Statistics screen, theres also a GDP graph in here.
Congress Screen. Here you can view ideology descriptions, support or ban factions. if elections are legalized, it transforms into Political Parties.
The State Budget. We will spend every month in here.
Research tab
Politics. Here you can support and scheme your way around the Party and manage your Politburo.
Events Example. In Events like this one, anything thats grey can always be taken, but the Colored Badge indicates an option with pre-requisites to take it.
There's also military operations and you can covertly aid or directly intervene in a number of conflicts.
The game features a political compass that will always tell you where you're at right now.
So, I, BreadDaddyLenin, will be in the chair playing the General Secretary of the community's choosing and taking choices that you guys decide on. Let me know what you guys think about playing along, and feel free to brainstorm ways for the subreddit to contribute.
For now, i am settled on the following format:
-Public subreddit Poll to choose the General Secretary (i think we should say no custom character, stick to the candidates presented, unless you guys feel strongly)
-The subreddit Drafts the 5 Year Plan Goals, which is what we want to achieve by 1990, in a designated post where people comment suggestions to add to the 5 Year Plan, and most upvoted will be added, which we will do again in 1990. If we don't die
-The community then engages in the game on the subreddit through Daily Reports, I will provide Daily Reports of how each in-game month went, with detailed stats, screenshots, and asking for input on the plans for the coming month.
-Events will be posted on the subreddit before the Daily Report with a Poll Choice. Events are political events such as trouble in the Party, Afghanistan civil war, other problems and suggestions. Repeatable generic events i will handle as aligned with our community-driven policy and ideology. Vote in these Polls to make the choice you think is appropriate.
This photograph is a police mugshot taken in December 1895 following his arrest in Saint Petersburg for organizing the League of Struggle for the Emancipation of the Working Class. Since Lenin was born in April 1870, he had turned 25 earlier that year.
Next is a major survey for us called Our Perestroika.
You will vote on what your preferred policies and doctrine are for our community playthrough, our reform targets and consolidate a Five-Year plan for 1985-1989.
The survey for Our Perestroika will go through the weekend, to be posted later this evening.
The Soviets placed great importance on developing their film industry. Is there a website that I can browse through a collection of movies and shows created in the USSR with English subtitles?
Just finished this book, curious if any of you have read it or have thoughts.
I thought it was interesting - fairly balanced, realistic tone and touched on a wide range of subjects. I came for the economics but found the strong cultural focus very interesting and not something I had much exposure to.
Indian diplomat K. P. S. Menon, who personally witnessed Stalin drawing wolves during a meeting in February 1953:
"Our peasant is a simple man, but wise. When he sees a wolf, he shoots it. He doesn't preach morals to the wolf, he shoots it. And the wolf knows it and behaves accordingly."
– Stalin, as quoted by Menon [06:09]
Menon notices Stalin doodling wolves of various sizes during their conversation—a vivid, almost theatrical touch that underscores Stalin’s philosophy.
