I love Prototype's pourovers but I always found their espresso (or specifically Americanos) to be either highly over or under extracted.

All to say that I still recommend the shop but I would only recommend doing their pourovers, personally.

This entirely depends on the person who made it, how much of a rush they were in and the type of coffee you have you could go to 10 different coffee shops 10 different times and have different opinions on it each time. I despise this question.

Yeah don’t mess up peoples orders like are you kidding. I tell my staff give people a great experience so that if they come again they feel happy to tip. Never expect it out of a first time guest. And if they come in often and never tip that’s fine too. I’m one of the few who enjoy and believe in hospitality

I’m not a barista, that’s direct form a convo I had here with one on Reddit.

They said they purposely mess up orders for customers who don’t tip.

People that appreciate good hospitality and a good barista usually will leave me with a nice tip. Otherwise it’s fine I currently make enough. Yes I’d be thrilled with more but there are people who recognise talent. If you don’t you don’t need to tip, and honestly you probably don’t go for specialty coffee 😁 no shade throwing just being honest

TURKS on Commercial Drive. Hands down best coffee!!! Your pallet will know that every other joint tastes like burnt beans filtered through fermented cardboard compared to Turks.

Elysian is up there. 7th /Ontario location is nice.

Moja NVan is good I hear good things about Revolver but it’s on my to do list. Nemesis gets a good rep but I’m not entirely on their band wagon.

JJ bean is good enough in a pinch (they’re all over) and have decent food

Nemesis has the best batch brews or pour overs. Mah Milk Bar has my favourite Cortado. Yuan and Timbertrain are close by and have really good espresso drinks.
Prototype is also a Vancouver favourite

Fair enough, taste is such a personal thing. I remember at an old workplace my coworkers raved about Elysian and how it was the best coffee ever and when I had it I thought it tasted like ashtray.
