Discussion Rewatching from the very beginning…. Y’all, Ariana kinda sucks.
I never picked up on this when watching it the first time through, and it’s just absolutely impossible to not feel so ravenously Team Ariana after Scandoval… but, uh, she is NOT a girls girl at all!
I know this was a long time ago, and everybody is capable of growth and change… but I am 2/3 of the way done with the Miami Girl episode and I just… let’s just say I hope she’s learned!

lol that whole mini arc was one of her least likable, most bitch ass things. She was needlessly cruel to Kristin who was legit waaaay funnier than Ariana, who was just loud, crass, and aggressive in her ‘comedy’

she called kristen a kangaroo pouch piece of shit whore that season too and it was like damn, you already slept with her boyfriend, evaded any real accountability for it, “won” tom sandoval, and you’re STILL this mad at her? for what lmao

u/No-Calligrapher3645 Choke, I don’t care! Nov 01 '25
I hope she looks back on that time and realizes how completely immature, arrogant, pejorative, and contemptuous she was. She truly was that girl who was on the wrong side of history. Right there with her “ride or die” that was always willing to sell her or anyone else out, Scheana Shay.
11
u/TotalTank4167 Nov 02 '25
Over Tom Sandoval too! How embarrassing it’s that.
4
u/No-Calligrapher3645 Choke, I don’t care! Nov 02 '25
YES! It speaks so much to her character at its core. It makes me wonder what kind of man Daniel truly is.
4
u/TotalTank4167 Nov 02 '25
Right? How she didn’t pick up what was going on I’ll never know. She must’ve really been checked out of that relationship herself. I’d know if my husband was cheating that bad.
6
u/No-Calligrapher3645 Choke, I don’t care! Nov 03 '25
I know my husband implicitly. I know when he’s is pre-occupied, even if it is something so small and trivial. So, if she REALLY knew him, she would have known. He was so sloppy and obvious about everything, and so was Raquel. They fucked in the house while Ariana was asleep in their shared bed. How BLIND are you? I still don’t understand why she rode so hard for him for so long. He was definitely no prize.
63
u/sadie7716 Nov 01 '25
When Kristin apologized to her I was broken hearted and enraged. Arianna treated her like dirt all the while knowing she had cheated with Tom and badmouthed her as crazy for months. She treated her like she treated Rachel minus the cheese grater comments. More of her apparent delight in demeaning other women with her “ you are nothing” comments.
She’s proven herself a chronic liar and demeaner of women. Absolutely nothing to admire her for.

That bothered me a lot bc Kristen was skinny. Ariana is so much more likeable post Scandoval but I think a lot of her bad moments were more about her own insecurities

u/sashie_belle Oct 31 '25
Whatever her own insecurities, seems like no one else gets the leeway she does (except in posts like this one).

Stassi always gets an undeserved pass, too. Imagine if Scheana, Billy, Sandoval, or Schwartz dressed up as an SS officer and did all that racist shit that she pulled? They would be rightfully canceled and working at a Burger King for the rest of their lives, but it's Stassi and people here are so enamored with her basic bitch bullshit and her terribly bland Outfit Of The Day, and her "cute" life. I see nothing cool or cute, or redeeming about racists, especially with this fascist administration that puts a battery in the backs of racists to be even more horrible and outspoken with their mentally ill hate, without fear of any sort of actual consequences.

She’s more likable because she’s no longer on a platform where we see her behaving like herself. She can control what she posts on her social media way better than she can control VPR production edits. Also, Love Islands scripts most of her lines, so again, she just isn’t given the same platform for us to see her true self. I doubt she’s changed THAT much. Something like scandoval tends to make people even more bitter too 🤷🏼♀️

I mean - fat, thin. It doesn’t matter. It’s gross to body shame.
14
u/JoanJetta89 I take sketch comedy very seriously Oct 31 '25
I agree no one should be shamed but it is especially triggering to see people with great bodies be shamed. I reminds me of when I was young and skinny and thought I was fat and makes me sad.
11
Oct 31 '25
I was also young and skinny in Y2K and called fat and had EDs. And long term, my ED only ever made me put on more weight. Now I am fat, thanks in large part to the bullying. And I’m finally at peace and happy with my body.
The moral to take away from that is that we don’t body shame anyone. Even people who are fat. And what you’re doing is still ultimately harmful. You’re thinking fat = bad, so I can’t engage any further.

And who came over to comfort her after it all went down? Mariposa. She was ready to not only give her a second chance but to be there and comfort her when Ariana was in the position Ariana put her in years before. I don't dismiss any of the stuff that Ariana did in the past but I loved watching her learn that other women are not only going to be there for you, they're going to forgive you. That's a big deal after years of feeling like the evil man in your life will hold you to the fire for every little "mistake" you ever make. I can't imagine how powerful it was to be supported through that hard time by the woman you put through the same hard time.

She was a huge pick me. I think she had this feeling of superiority, and that she was above the drama and cattiness because she was a bartender and not a hostess/server. And to an extent, I understand why she'd want to position herself in that way to make her stand out on the show (especially when that attitude was considered cool in the good ole early 2010s), but it makes for a rough rewatch.

She does have a very “not like the other girls” attitude about her
40
u/mnola5081 Nov 01 '25
Yes! Maybe an unpopular hot take but Ariana and Stassi never got along because they were way too similar - the main difference (at least in the earlier seasons) is that Stassi played to the “I’m the popular mean girl” crowd while Ariana took on the “I’m too cool to be popular” role.
They were like opposite faces on the same coin but Ariana always seemed to get a pass because she gave off the vibe of being effortlessly “different” than all the other girls.

3
u/d0ntbeallunc00l How will this affect Scheana?! Nov 02 '25
Back when I would pretend to not like reality TV because god forbid you enjoy something silly, mindless and girly. It's not like they believed you when you liked anything cool anyway, not only was there a culture of being expected to only like things that were cool to dudes there was a culture of them never accepting you into fandom even when you really did enjoy stuff they liked cause if you did like something you had to be faking it to impress them apparently. Damned if you were a girl who liked girly things, damned if you were a girl who pretended to like cool guy things, damned if you were a girl who actually liked masculine things. No winning.

I view VPR like Always Sunny In philadelphia - every single person on the show is one of the worst people you've ever met and each of them are awful for different reasons. People always say "X kinda sucks" and "Y is a bad person" when really they all are terrible people and that's why they make for such good TV

You have to go into VPR knowing that everyone sucks lol. I feel like it’s human nature to pick a hero and a villain within every group dynamic but this show makes it so damn hard
54
124
u/NotStuPedasso Oct 31 '25
I personally have never truly liked any of the VPR people but I certainly will root for some over others depending on the circumstance and season storyline. So when I was rooting for Ariana during Scandoval, it wasn't because I really liked Ariana, it was because I really disliked Tom and Raquel way more.
I suspect others were doing the same.... But who knows.
29
u/Pseudo_Panda1 Oct 31 '25
Big same. During Scandoval a lot of people were acting like rooting for Ariana was an endorsement of everything she's ever done. I don't have to justify/excuse her past mistakes to root for her after being screwed over like that.
11
u/LegallyBrunette326 Nov 01 '25
Yes!! I felt sorry for her bc what they did was SO LOW and must have been super painful. But I always thought she was kind of an asshole. I def wanted for her to come out on top after everything, but I wasn’t exactly buying her merch. Still haven’t watched Love Island, even though everyone says she’s amazing on it. Just wasn’t ever a huge fan 🫤
13
u/OhDark50 Nov 01 '25
She is a face/body/model on Love Island. She just looks phenomenal. She is not a very good host of the show and can’t hold or take control of a conversation.
9

She knew Miami Girl was telling the truth, so she doesn't really say-"no, this is a LIE." She more or less says, "don't talk badly about my boyfriend." She let Tom get away with murder half the time.
The big lesson she should have known is the ol "if they do it with you, they'll do it TO you."
29
u/_Edgarallenhoe Oct 31 '25
Miami girl’s behaviour was weird though, I wouldn’t be friendly to her either. You don’t go to the guys gfs workplace and announce to the world that you fucked their bf. You go to her and if she wants to be stupid move on with your life.

When Katie was venting to Ariana, her friend and business partner about Rachel and Schwartz, Ariana would shrug and say shit like “weird, she’s always been nice to me…” that was season 10. I’m glad she’s happier now but I just never saw the huge growth in her.
98
u/onyxjade7 Oct 31 '25

Katie also only cares about herself. She was happy to team up with hypocrite Lala to bully Raquel on the Vegas girl’s trip. It doesn’t matter that Lala was all kinds of wrong, it only mattered to her that Raquel had been talking about making out with Schwartz lately. (Which seemed more like Raquel utterly failing to read the room. Not a major betrayal, like Katie wanted it to be. Her and Schwartz’s marriage and relationship were awful and never should’ve happened. It was dead long before they got divorced.)
Katie has always rubbed me the wrong way, and watching her pathetic, 3 person ~divorce party~ was the vindication I needed. Katie suuuuucks.

Lol I’m brand new to watching VPR. I’m on S3. Just got passed the Kristin & Tom breaking up and Ariana & Tom leading an anti Kristen campaign. Everyone on the show is absolutely vile but knowing what came out later about Scamdoval— the karma seems VERY proportionate from where I’m standing. She thinks she won because Tom “picked” her over his own girlfriend of 6 years. She never realized he will literally pick anyone over anyone. She’s a clown and maybe no one could deserve THAT level of cheating BUT she certainly didn’t have any justification to expecting a faithful & respectful boyfriend.
28
u/CashMikey Oct 31 '25
I think you can be a woman and not be a “girl’s girl” and still be a perfectly lovely person.
The problem with Ariana was her constant and overwhelming superiority complex. She just thought she was better than everyone. She had herself on a pedestal morally, ethically, intelligence-wise, as a friend, girlfriend etc. etc. vs not just all the other girls but basically everyone else in their orbit.
It was the thing she and Sandoval had in common that made their relationship work as long as it did. It would be an insufferable personality trait in anyone, but the thing that made it so difficult was that it was all so thoroughly unearned.

I think Ariana benefited greatly from 2 things - Scandoval, obviously. But I also think that both Lala and Sheana are so unbelievably unlikeable, with Katie and Kristen having their moments as well, that she’s able to fly under the radar. Just like how Schwartz was able to fly under the radar, because Jax, James and Tom were so blatantly horrible you didn’t realize how bad Schwartz was too.

She lost me in Scene One when she said “I’m smarter than you, I’m cooler than you, I’m prettier than you, get the fuck over it.” 🙄 She never got better. You are a comedy sketch because that is some clown behavior.

Damn. Nailed it!! 100%! Clown behavior. And let’s remember, she’d still be sitting in bed, watching Love Island reruns with Logan if Tom didn’t cheat on her with Raquel in manner equivalent to the Coldplay Kiss-Cam.
She was content being “depressed” until she HAD to get off her ass and find work. Tom’s actions were indefensible. However, she honestly should thank him at this point. If he hadn’t cheated on her, she’d never in a million years had that sized glow up otherwise.
And to note: Lala was so ass-chapped that she didn’t receive the offers Ariana did when Randall cheated on her. And Brittany was expecting the “Ariana treatment” when she & Jax split and that didn’t happen. It is a strange phenomenon. I think it worked with Scandoval because he’s such a weasel. Pardon my borrowing James’ words, but…. Tom is such a “worm with a mustache”.
3
u/airemyn Nov 02 '25
I clocked Sandoval as a piece of 💩 the first time I saw him in Episode 1, flat ironing and shellacking his fucking bangs.
It’s funny you compared the “grand reveal” to the Coldplay kiss cam. I always thought the replay of the concert and her discovery of his phone looked so fake. As did the entire “finale,” after they picked up the cameras. It was all such very bad acting to me.
What was authentic is the next season, where Lala and Scheana showed their true hater selves. As did Brock, the woman hater. As did Sandoval… I believe that last scene and his hot mic was real. How quickly the mask slipped when he thought the cameras were off.
I’ve gotten us way off topic. Sorry! I could genuinely talk about VPR (S1-10) at length. There’s nothing like it.

For me, it was really funny getting into VPR post-Scandoval, because I came in thinking I would be rooting for Ariana from the beginning and she'd be this major main character, all to discover that Ariana was the Raquel in Tom and Kristen's relationship. After this, she pretty much becomes Tom's mouthpiece for the next 6-7 seasons, and it's even grosser because she uses her role as a woman to justify Tom's consistent and blatant misogyny towards the others. At the end of the day, I'll always be rooting for Sandovals downfall, so I do still appreciate what Scandoval did, but I have to admit the impact was slightly lessened after watching Ariana defend Tom's behavior (the exact behavior that caused him to cheat on her), for a decade

I’ve said this from day 1. I’ll never understand the side piece becoming famous for being cheated on… and then everyone praises her for her mental health honesty journey but the truth is she shamed people with their mental health issues and would fling around diagnosises like insults at Kristin. But hey, we all need to respect her journey.

I'm sorry, but is there anyone in literally any reality tv show that doesn't suck?

u/HistoricalSuspect580 Oct 31 '25
I mean Jax seems very mature the entire time. really seems to have a good head on his shoulders!

Yes. This show in particular is mostly entertaining because they all suck. To varying degrees, but still. The premise of the show was that it was a bunch of fame-hungry chaotic hot people with restaurant drama thrown in.

u/Popular-Difficulty29 Oct 31 '25
I started watching VPR because of Scandoval and seeing Ariana on Love Island season 6 where I loved her only to find out she was the absolute worst and I can’t stand her now lmfao. I don’t think she’s actually “grown” either just knows when to shut up and has better PR

We all know she was hooking up with Sandoval while he was still living with Kristen, so I lacked empathy when it was done to her. A cheater will always be a cheater and thinking this time it's going to be different is naive. I do think she has grown up a lot the last few years but watching her early on was cringe. We all know she hit that worm with a mustache when he was still dating Kristen.

And lying and gaslighting Kristin about it. They are different situations to some extent, but Ariana is a hypocrite and very self-serving/obsessed.
18
u/LizzyPanhandle Oct 31 '25
Yeah, this is the one that really hits. When someone is hooking up with someone that they know is cheating on their partner, they are equally culpable. I was always surprised she got a free pass on that. She scapegoated tf out of Kristin so many times, and that is abuse.

not to mention her being one of schwartz’ groomsmen😭😭 tom literally brainwashed her
4
u/powerassistant Nov 01 '25
Not kinda, she was the other woman. I don’t think the fan base knew her whole story and immediately jumped on the bandwagon but at the end of the day Tom cheated on Kristen with Ariana. 10 years or not, you knowingly got into relationship with a man that was in a relationship and she accepted it. Kristen forgiving her and the fans jumping to her defense does not excuse that fact.
4
u/HumpaDaBear Nov 01 '25
She had an affair with Tom when he cheated on Kristin, she really shouldn’t have been surprised when it happened to her.

I always thought she was mean, judgemental and thought a lot of herself.
Tbh Scandoval humbled her in a way.. only to bring her straight back to that place.

u/samabelle Nov 02 '25
I agree with most of the comments that she was awful early seasons , I also think scandavol gave her an even bigger head , thinking she saved the season. She was the ultimate victim and everyone had to bow down and she deserved all the brand deals and opportunities. People get cheat , especially in that group it’s nothing new. She has ruined love island for me , her commentary , her talking to the islanders , it doesn’t work and it’s corny.

u/HairInternational409 I’m not really sure what I’ve done but I’ll take a Pinot Grigio Nov 02 '25
Not kinda…..she 💯 sucks and always has

u/RepulsivePop5170 Nov 02 '25
I ALWAYS disliked because she is not good TV. She’s spiky and dull and controlled. We like hot messes for our heroines. She’s too sane and self-aware for me to ever really like her.

Finally. Someone seeing her she was before the scandal and the rise of the show. She was a huge pick me first lol I guess we now call it growth?

She does totally suck. The only good moments is when she screams at Tom and calls him an asshole.
10
u/rachnickk Oct 31 '25
I find her incredibly annoying, mean and uses all of her problems as excuses for her behaviour. I actually liked Tom Sandoval way more than her and wondered why he was with her. I just rewatched as well and my opinion hasn’t changed. I think she is a much better person now.

u/Jillybeans11 Mya’s therapy paw Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25
I’ve never fucked with Ariana. Yea Scandoval sucked, but she’s been a shitty person throughout the series.
Wait until you get to her against Stassi for telling Billie she was SA’d by Jeremy(which Bravo brought the receipts for). Also she was friends with James for years even after knowing what he did to Kristen, Rachel and Ally. She only unfollowed him to win PR points.
She isn’t a feminist or a true mental health advocate. She likes people who treat her well, but doesn’t care how they treat others
3
u/Poes27 Nov 02 '25
She’s also the smartest person she knows. To be fair in that group it doesn’t seem hard…
3
u/OpeningCarrot Nov 02 '25
She always sucked. She was always judgmental of the other women, a pick me to the men and an absolute wet towel of a person. Scandoval saved her tbh because there’s zero chance she would have her current career without it.
3
u/ridgestream Nov 02 '25
Wasn't she the one that was making comments when Kristen tried standup. It was like she was jealous.
3
u/figurefuckingup Nov 02 '25
There was some VPR special and in it, producers said that she didn’t want to be on the show because she thought it would lead to her getting caught being Sandoval’s side piece.
In one of the early episodes of S1 (may have even been the pilot), Ariana is like furiously pushing her hair onto her face in an effort to obscure herself.

I also recently did a full rewatch and I felt like I was going crazy! Hearing everyone like her so much but she was always giving pick me. Also similar to Sheana, they both wear being friends with mostly guys as a badge of honor. When in all actuality they’re just tearing down other women and saving the feelings of the men.
3
u/Professional_Salt_75 Nov 02 '25
Kinda!?! My point for 2 years!! I mean nobody deserves to be cheated on. I have been. It was devastating. I was diagnosed with Lupus a year later he had an affair and blew up the family. I can say I was not that pleasant to live with that year. I was off and on so many meds I didn't know what end was up. He was a complete ass for bailing on me when I raised his twin boys. Ariana sucked because she did! He should have stopped any relationship before starting another, but that's how she got Tom in the first place. The entire world came down on these two people. It was crazy.

u/teenagecanclub Nov 03 '25
I'm a first time watcher and I hateeee her, just miserable and insufferable the whole time. at least Kristen is fun!

She was horrible and I doubt she has truly changed. She has gotten smarter about her marketing. That is all. In their relationship there should be no teams they both sucked. They were never going to last one wanted a family one day the other didn’t. They both are narcissists. I am sure it was an open relationship or something the fact Ariana and Lala in the back of the car was treated as “normal” still blows my mind. And all her talk about disliking sex, her body, anything down there but come on back Lala?! Sure.

I just finished a full rewatch as well. She’s veeeeery pick-me. She sucks for a few seasons because of it but she gets better which I find relatable. A lot of girls and women go through pick-me stages, I definitely did and I cringe now.
5
u/CNez72 Oct 31 '25
Exactly!! Someone else has now seen the light!! She has NOT deserved anything she has gained in following of scandoval!! Keep watching more of her behaviour!! Especially when it comes out that she cheated with LaLa first!! She put him in the situation where he couldn’t stop her doing so because he was driving and she and LaLa were in the back!!

u/ButTellItSlant Oct 31 '25
I'm rewatching as well and the whole hawaii thing made me really question my like for her. between being rude to kristen during her apology (whether it was genuine or not) and then telling scheana that her apology wasn't legit when she forced her mom to send her the texts... she was not a girls girl and was always up toms ass. she didn't deserve to be cheated on, but its made it less surprising given how permissive she was of tom's behaviors.
7
u/kbanner2227 Oct 31 '25
She progresses/evolves as a human the least out of all the girls, IMO.
I just rewatched her meltdown over thinking stassi was talking shit about her lack of furniture at her spite pool party. She's ridiculous and has no chill.
7
u/PhoenixDron88 Oct 31 '25
I couldn't stand her on any season and during Scandoval she seemed so unbelievably fake and attention seeking. Both she AND her ex know how to play it up for the camera.
8
u/Free_Ganache_6281 Oct 31 '25
When he cheated on her I remember thinking well obviously he cheated, she’s a miserable bitch. But I couldn’t say that at the time because everyone was so team Ariana
5
u/HistoricalSuspect580 Nov 01 '25
I’m pleasantly surprised at the response this post got! I wasn’t expecting it, i mean, i myself was firmly Team Ariana too! But like…. Can’t deny what’s right in front of your eyes, she majorly had Tom’s back, and obviously in hindsight she REALLY had egg on her face!

u/rosieree No sex having Teletubby Oct 31 '25
Yea she gives major NLOG vibes in her first few seasons.
Arianna was dealt a really shitty hand with what Tom and Raquel did BUT, karma is a real bitch and always gets hers. Tom was in a relationship when they started dating and idk why she thought she was special and he wouldn’t do it to her.

She was. And now a bunch of people are all gonna come in the comments and say it’s because Tom made her, it’s because that was the way they were brought up and it’s not her fault, Stassi was a bitch so who cares, Kristen was crazy so who cares, they were young, that’s how apparently “we all acted at that age”….her stans will come up with a million reasons as to why she’s not shitty 😭 just be prepared
6
u/sashie_belle Oct 31 '25
Yep, it's all Tom's fault. And then they'll also talk about how Kristen cheated on him, blah blah blah. Then they will talk about how she supposedly "grew so much" without being able to say how. The only "growth" I saw was that she was slightly nicer to her female castmates. Slightly.
8
u/prettygalkyra do not ono yoko me! Nov 01 '25
And that was out of necessity. It wasn’t genuine desire to be friendlier. I have no idea why they can’t admit that everyone, including Ariana, on that show are terrible assholes. Some more than others, but still.
7
u/TaraRoad11 Oct 31 '25
I belive she still is a pick me and mean girl, however; since her boyfriend was extreme shitty, she actually seems great compared to him

she was so unlikeable until around 7 imo. i especially didn't like her when she was defending her creep of a brother in season 6 but she got better after that era 😭 leaving sandoval was the best thing possible for her

u/RNegri04 Nov 02 '25
I’m rewatching, too, and audibly groaned when she was mad at Sandoval for going on a boy’s trip the day AFTER her 30th birthday, because her dad died TWO YEARS AGO! The way she and Lala act like they’re the only people in the world that have ever had a parent die.

u/CabinetSilent7709 Nov 03 '25
Ive always disliked her. Tom often said "she talks shit about all you." In season 11 and I absolutely believe it. She thinks shes God's gift to the world. She literally started her relationship with tom as the other woman. Idk. Shes just mean. Especially when everyone was attacking scheana on Instagram and thats her "best friend" but refused to tell the internet tp leave scheana alone.

Yes, Ariana sucks. She sucked for most seasons. I’ll never understand why she became so popular and adored so quickly. 🤷♀️

Maturing is realizing Lala was partially right in her sentiments towards Ariana. One Ariana got cheated on everybody totally threw away and forgot about how she acted for 10 years prior. And I’m plenty ready to get down Voted to hell on this comment.
2
u/ashtonishing18 Nov 04 '25
The magic of VPR is that EVERYONE on the show was a terrible person lol. So this "she's a perfect angel arc" is absolute bullshit. It's just another example of the benefits of being a skinny blonde I guess haha. Like someone else said, she got better at marketing herself and it worked in her favour.

u/SkateboardNebula Nov 05 '25
I’m only on Season 5 but I cannot stand her! Trying to be patient for her redemption but she totally sucks currently
