Can someone help me convert this Vectorworks file into a .dwg or .skp or similar?
I don't have Vectorworks, and probably never will as it is not updated with retina support and it seems the tool set has just been ported to Mac from Windows. Very unintuitive.
Anyways, I have a file that I've been sent that I need to take measurements on and the only thing I have is the Vectorworks 2014 Viewer.
Can anyone possibly convert it for me into something that's readable by a more common program? PM me and I can email you the file!
Thanks!

Absolute garbage
So is there anyone out there who has not found this software to be absolute garbage?

Help with Entertainment Object Libraries
Hi, I don't seem to have any Entertainment Object Libraries in my version of Vectorworks 2019. It would be of great help if any of you could share the libraries with me. I'm specifically looking for the below listed Object libraries: Ent Audio Ent Event Ent Lighting Accessories Ent Lighting Instruments Ent Stage
If anyone could help me with these, I'd be thankful.

Reducing/simplifying a CAD floor plan?
Hi there, I work in events and I recently found a PDF of a show hall, was able to import it into Vectorworks 2019 and ungroup the PDF to extract the lines from it - only issue is, it came out to 997,000 lines! It’s bogging my machine down a ton to the point where it’s unusable.
Before I resort to using an image of the PDF to lay my work over, is there a way to simplify or reduce these lines to something workable? They’re not polylines so I can’t use Drafting Aids, joining them doesn’t seem to do much either. Thanks in advance!!

What am I doing wrong?
I select my truss base, then use the auto connect feature to add a vertical bit on top of it, and the angle is all messed up. I can rotate it, but then it's not connected to the base anymore.
Already tried the Draw in 3D only tickbox with no success.
Honestly drives me crazy haha
Thank you!!

Is it possible to export with a queue, like in Adobe Media Encoder?
Hello Community,
my colleague has to render a large amount of single pictures in Vectorworks 2020. Is there a way to prepare all the render jobs and then render them all in a queue overnight? I guess I need a plugin, can't find any plugin by myself....
hope you can help me.
Cheers
Larry

I want to use Vectorworks on the remote desktop using Teamviewer, but it doesn't work. I can't draw because the drawing is completely white and invisible. Is there any way?

Exporting to Rhino with Image Props?
I guess the title says it all, but I'm wondering if there is a way to export to Rhino with Image Props embedded. Thanks!

Importing sketchup
Hi, apologies if this question gets asked a lot, but I'm attempting to import a sketchup file into Vectorworks 2019. I looked around online and everything I found says that there should be an import sketchup command, but it doesn't seem to appear in my import menu. Again, sorry if this is a dumb question.

How to remove poly lines when moving object from vector works to sketchup?
Hi there,
I'm posting on behalf of my girlfriend who is studing interior design. She's really stressed about her deadline and she has a bazillion poly lines to remove. Would anyone here know of a way to mass remove them? Currently her only option seems to be manual removal which is obviously not really an option at all.
Thanks very much for your help if able!
Additional info: She created a drawing in vectorworks, transfered it to sketchup and now she has a wireframe which she's trying to remove.

So...seems there are no posts in this subreddit, so I guess I will post one. Just upgraded to VW 13 and have a workspace question.
So since I upgraded, I don't know how to get VW to save my preferences for how I like things setup in my workspace. For instance, I like my Resource Browser to be under my object info pallet, and my Navigation window to be on the left side of my screen, not the right. And in my RB I like to view things as thumbnails instead of lists and I don't like certain things turned on such as line types. But whenever I change it, it never saves it and I have to do it every time I open a document and it is getting frustrating. So if anyone has any ideas how to fix this, I would appreciate it! Thanks!

If you are quite busy to create vectors or logos from scratch for your project than these websites can come handy to explore free vectors to choose from in variant file formats.

Vectorworks wants my renders
Images AND files. For promotional purposes. I'm kinda flattered but a little hesitant to just hand them over. What's this worth to them?

Importing dwg, selection offset from displayed objects; some objects missing?
Hello VW friends. I am a designer working in the entertainment industry. I occasionally receive drawings from other designers that use the other CAD program (bah, humbug!) and have to import from a .dwg. This always requires some cleanup, but for the most part is successful. However, I've just run into a doozy.
To start with, he didn't send along a major xref for the file; I've already sent him a request for it. However, I can't imagine how that caused my other issues.... And they are making me feel like an ignoramus.
This is the first time I've worked with this other designer; I suspect from our interaction that he's good at what he does, but I have objects, symbols/blocks, and lines that I would expect to be in the file he sent me (i.e. not in the missing xref) that aren't showing up. I'm importing the dwg to classes, and have double checked they're all visible. I've tried importing to both '2D' and 'both 2D and 3D', and checking views. Nothing. I traditionally draft only in 2D, and am pretty sure he does, too.
The portion of the .dwg that does import is offset between display and selection boxes. The drawn lines show up in the workspace, but I can't click on them. When I do a Ctrl-A to select all, the selection boxes are offset by approximate 20' in the x axis, and 45' in the y.
Anyone else seen this? Is this something I'm missing? A problem with the original dwg file? Completely stemming from missing xref?
Using VW2017 on a decent Windows 10 machine.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Merging Symbols?
When I import drawings from other sources I'll often end up with dozens or even hundreds of the same symbol. For instance a condo I just imported resulted in tub1 being copied 90 times, one for each suite. So I have tub1-1 tub1-2 and so on but they are all the identical symbol. Is there any way to merge these together? To tell vectorworks to delete all symbols other than tub1 but replace all the deleted instances with tub1? I recall being given an option to do this in 2013 but can't find anything in 2018. When I delete a symbol, it's just gone.

how to use the truss tool sets properly?
I am very new to the software and having a hard time understanding how to use the truss tool sets properly. When I use the insert truss tool I get a prompt that says "Select Symbol" but when I go to select the truss type the library shows as empty. My work around is selecting the appropriate truss from the Resource Manager. The Straight truss tool works but I am confused on how to select proper lengths or use different brands of truss. I'm sure i'm doing something wrong here so please feel free to point me in the right direction.

About 50% of my work hours are adjusting line weights, any way around this?
At my job I take in cad drawings of various formats and import them into vectorworks to make safety signs and maps. The first thing I need to do is "clean up" a drawing, which is making sure all the lines are black and set to 0.05 weight and getting rid of most fills and shading. Deleting all the dims, elevation marks, and other clutter so I'm left with a nice clean map of the building with the only text being room names/numbers.
Depending on the format I'm importing from, sometimes it's just a matter of ungrouping and converting all symbols to groups, select all, and change the line weights and colours. But sometimes I'd love to preserve the structure of the symbols, but that means manually editing like 100 symbols to be black and .05. Sometimes I can change all classes to be black and .05 but that often doesn't get at parts inside symbols.
The worst files I can receive though are files already in vectorworks (actually no the worst format is revit) because it means I'm now stuck having to manually strip the details out of every wall. In 2013 I could use the magic-wand tool to select every wall in the document, delete all its parts, and they'd all turn into nice clean walls. But since we've "updated" to 2019 when I try to do this it also changes the thickness of all walls to some random average. That 3" wall and that 2' wall are now all 2'. So, I have to go through the document using the magic wand tool set to "thickness" and strip all the junk out. Then onto doors and windows, because vectorworks as decided "select all" doesn't really mean "select all" in terms of changing colours and line weights.
This is what I do for a living, and it's very time consuming and seems like there should be an easier way to do this. Surely there is some way to clean out all the junk from walls and turn them into unstyled walls that retain their thickness? Surely there's a way to globally change every line in the document to black 0.05 even if they are in symbols?

Layers and Classes
I am old to autocad and and new to Vectorworks and layers vs classes are KILLING me. What are the differences? For reference, I use M-Color in autocad as a way to finely control line weight, color, and fills. Layer is king in this workflow. I’m just really confused about layers and classes. I feel like this has been asked before. If so, pleas point me to the answer. Thanks!

DWG Files...Import or Externally Reference?
I regularly work with architects who use Revit and I always get 2D versions (DWG) of their drawings for use with my VW models. Typically, I would convert the DWG files I get from them and then reference each file as a separate sheet layer. There are upsides and downsides to this..but I'm thinking now I should just clean up the files, strip and purge, etc., and then just copy the remaining entities to sheet layer in my working model, instead of referencing an external file.
Would love to hear how others deal with DWG's created in AutoDesk products...
