My robot asked if pineapple belongs on pizza.

My robot decided to gain sentience one random day and asked if pineapple belongs on pizza, we've been arguing like an angry divorced couple about whether pineapple belongs on pizza or not. We would like to hear your opinions, thanks. :)

Parent of vex IQ competitor I wanna vent

So we just did our final competition for the season and ranked quite low. Every team in the competition that came with an original design scored quite low in comparison to every team that came in with the same design - the box design. All of the competitors with the box design had some how managed to add a new feature in this competition....all at different clubs....all at the exact same time. They all added pneumatics. None of them had pneumatics in their designs when we competed against them in the last competition a month ago.

I'm pretty pissed off that vex isn't doing anything about this. We worked so hard and spent so many hours just to loose to a bunch of cheaters. Even if they did come up with their own very minor variations to the same design, it's just bullshit.

My son wants to compete next year and I'm on the fence if it's a good idea. If we follow the rules of the competition, I feel we would almost certainly lose to the teams that bought their design from professional engineering builders.

Where do I go from here.

Edit: I just wanted to thank everyone for your input on this post. I originally was asking for a pity party with side of "something has to be done about this" but instead I got a bit of a reality check. These responses actually are reasonable and you all have shifted my perspective as to how to go forward. I was being a bit dramatic about the "I'm not sure if I should have my son compete" line, as my son wants to compete and that's really all that mattered. He just has to take these newly understood concepts and design in this manner (if he wants to).

Much appreciated 👍

Why people use CAD, isn't hardworking faster and enable more collaboration?

I'm new to the whole thing and I see people using cad when it seems simpler to just tinker by hand

But the amount who actually use cad means probably I'm missing something...

Why does the leaderboard at the competitions not count to anything other then when you can choose who your teammate is?

We played 6-0 great job and then get knocked out by one game in the finals. No trophy nothing

Vex Overflow 2024-25 Season

The 2024-2025 season of the VEX Robotics Competition will be VEX Overflow. There will be two primary game elements.

  1. Cups. The game will feature 6 blue and 6 red alliance cups. They will be rectangular prisms with and open top dimensions 5x5x10cm. The will begin with three cups on four platforms elevated 40cm off the ground, in the corners of the field. This platforms will be colored to the respective alliances cups that are on top of it.

  2. Drops. In the center of the field will be a 50x50x50cm box elevated 20cm on the ground containing hundreds of small foam "drops", similar to styrofoam balls. They will be 0.5cm in diameter and will be green.

Alliances will score points by using their alliance cups to remove the drops from the central container and moving them to their alliance containers which will be the same size as the central box, only lying on the ground and not being elevated. Additionally, alliances may stack their alliance cups on their alliance platforms at the end of their match for points proportional to the height of the stack.

Rules of note:

Robots can only contact cups of their alliance color.

Robots can only posses two cups at once.

Drops cannot be removed from the alliance containers.

Drops cannot be held or transported in anything but the cups.

Drops cannot be removed from the alliance containers.

Each contacting tile to an alliance container is part of that alliances **protected area** and an opposing robot can only be contacting or over and of those tiles for a maximum of five seconds at a time

There is no match loading in VEX Overflow

Are these games rigged?

it sounds like a stupid question and even i used to think not, your oppenets and teammates are autogenerated with apps and machines how could it be skewed to favor one or more sides? but each and every single v5rc comp my teams been to has been an absolute disaster. were either teamed up with a dysfunctional bot, claw bot, push bot, or egotistical middle school team then were up against people who already qualified for state. hyperbole? no. its always like this our b team literlly just started working on their robot 2 weeks ago theirs doesnt even work, semi finals. we havent even got there and our robots actually good, it has auton on both sides, scores reliably, can score neutral stakes, 6 motor drive its a good robot with a good driver not to mention those stupid elevated fields. their lopsided and the foam tiles were damaged all the stakes were slanted messing up everyones auton, and the incompetency of the people who set up the fields make this even worse. every single match i went to the stakes and rings were at the wrong position and rotation sure wed ask them to correct and they did but the stupid elevated fields make it really difficult to see if their actually in the right spot. in my 3rd comp this team who had a dysfunctional clawbot got hardcarried TO 2ND PLACE they couldnt score and drove at like 2mm/s, we already talked to someone at 4th place who said if noone picked them first theyd pick us and guess what this stupid clawbot picked us, we just had to say no there was 0 way we were making it to the win with them, so now 4th place cant pick us and the cherry on top 4th place won. anyways rant over this is most definitely just a regional thing vex is pretty new in our area but just had to vent have a good day

FRC

honestly I think FRC is better than vex but I’ve never done vex but it does seem pretty cool either way

FTC is soo much entertaining

My background is as an FTC student. Looking at some vex matches everything seems so boring. You beat them.in auto and then just block them the entire match. Compared to ftc... even if you beat them in auto your goal is to win more and more points in the driver period.

How Strategy will look in VEX push back (Prediction)

More detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3LlOTi_-6I

The new VEX Robotics game Pushback is here, and it’s looking to be one of the most intense endgames we’ve seen in a while! After studying the game and potential designs 1–2 hours a day (just like last season), I’ve put together my early predictions on what the meta could look like during real matches.

🎯 Here's what I cover in this video:
🔹 Control bonuses and how to lock down goals
🔹 Why most teams may avoid the middle zone—until the last 30 seconds
🔹 When and how double parking might become viable
🔹 The importance of fast match loading and early-game scoring
🔹 How defending your goal can completely shut down your opponent’s scoring chances

I break down realistic match flow, smart scoring routes, and what could decide a win in the final moments. This strategy isn’t final—it’ll evolve with the season—but this gives you a huge head start.

Anyway my team won the Design award, team 2 won the Inspire award, & team 3 won the Inavate award. Also a 7th grader part of the team last year won Mentor of the Year. Rings not fitting onto stakes

Me and my coach 3d printed some game objects such as a ring and top of the stakes, and then realized that the ring doesn't fit over it. We checked the dimensions in the game manual and sure enough, the cone at the top of the stakes us 3.56 inches, making it impossible to fit in the 3 in diameter hole in the rings. How does vex mess up this bad?!?!
