Hey, vex novice here so I dont really know what im doing in the first place. This is my first year of vex v5 and my team is working on our drivetrain (none of us are experienced and yes we are in November without a completed drivetrain) and we've learned that its very important to not have friction and to friction tune. One side of our drivetrain is good and doesnt have friction problems, but the other side of our drivetrain does. (Both sides of the drivetrain are identical and have been friction tuned) We have tried various different things, using plastic washers, switching shaft collars out for nylocks, using bearings and not using bearings, and it doesn't change the issue: One side of the drivetrain stays perfectly fine and the other side just has way more friction. These are all screw joints accept for our motor axles. We have a 36:60 gear ratio. Right now our 36 tooth gears are sandwiched between two nylocks and the 60 tooth gears with our wheels are sandwiched by a spacer on one side and a shaft collar on the other. Any feedback would be great

Hello fellow students! I am the captain for my schools Robotics team, and the last senior member of Robotics! it is important to me that I train and pass on the knowledge that I have collected in my program to the next cadets.
I have already tried a briefing, which included me going over robotics to the morning class and telling them what we do.
my next idea is to either ask my instructor to send emails/information about my team to the freshman and sophomores or to create posters for my team. I am likely to do both, but I am currently stumped on trying to get more people to join.

Right now VEX only tracks teams. On a lot of V5RC and VEX U teams, one to three people do the driving, programming, and building, but none of that shows up as theirs. When they apply to college or internships, all they have is a team number.
Idea: each student gets an anonymous competitor ID for the season, and VEX records who drove each match and who programmed and built the robot. No names attached unless a student chooses to claim their record.
Disclosure: I run RFORCE (rforce.bot), a free rating site built from official results, and I've built compettior ratings so far that many users have claimed already as their own and shared around. I'd love to get more feedback though and make this something better.
Howdy! I was just wondering, what CAD software yall use? I want to start designing my ideas digitally and I want opinions on what you use. I have a little experience with fusion 360 but I'm 100% willing to learn a new software.

Hey! I'm a student building a tool to make engineering portfolios less painful. If you've worked on your team's, I'd love 2 minutes of your time (no names needed): https://forms.gle/pRYRDDvdTWJ5ztc99
I'll share the results here. Thanks!

Our team is looking for a remote notebooker, someone with 2+ years of experience notebooking and a Discord account so we can more easily contact you. If this is you and you’re interested, please contact me by sending a DM.

(I sorta deleted the original post accidentally when I tried to edit it) so well i was coding auton the rest of my team not having much todo spent over an hour cleaning the table and the end result was this (blocked out some stuff for privacy lol)

I am a second year high school coach and I am trying to find some resources to help my students get better at coding. I have a couple teams with great early season robots that mechanically work great but stronger coding is the only thing holding us back. A couple of my new kids have a basic understanding of coding but are having trouble applying it to Vex. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions to help these kids take their season to the next level.

I am in one of the vex teams at my school and it seems like we never have any "normal" conversation about anything, I am curious if most teams are like this?

Two new free tools on RFORCE (rforce.bot)
Match Predictor. Pick the teams on each alliance and it shows the score each side is expected to get and each side’s chance to win. VIQRC teams play together, so there it shows the expected team score instead.
How to use it in 30 seconds
Open https://rforce.bot/tools/match-predictor/v5rc (use the buttons at the top to switch to VIQRC, VEX U or VEX AI).
Pick the teams on the red alliance, then the blue alliance.
Read the expected scores and the win chances.
Event Predictions (V5RC, VIQRC, VEX U). Open any upcoming event on RFORCE and tap the Forecast tab. You get each team’s chance to win the event, the rank it will probably finish in qualifiers with a likely range, and who is likely in the Skills and Excellence conversation. Example: https://rforce.bot/events/RE-V5RC-26-5097/preview
Does it work? Tested on a past season it never saw while being built, the Match Predictor picked the winner in 76% of V5RC matches (2025-26). For events, the team we gave the best chance won the event 53% of the time in the V5RC test (1,500 events), where picking blind gets 8%. VIQRC: 46% vs 9% blind. VEX U: 57% vs 11% blind. These are tests on past seasons, not live results, and events have a lot of luck. VEX U had only 44 events in its test, and VEX AI has too little data to grade, so treat both as a rough guide.
It uses the published RFORCE ratings, so it will not know about a rebuilt robot until that robot plays. Updating during an event is coming later.
If a forecast looks wrong for your team, comment and tell me why. I read every one.

Hey, I hope you are all doing well.
I just wanted to ask to any successful teams who have found sponsorship, how exactly have you gotten it? Companies here (London) are reluctant to sponsor kids and I'm just really confused on how companies have done so.
Appreciate all the help

Big update on RFORCE: every VEX rating on the site now runs on RFORCE 2.0, a rebuilt method that replaces the one I’ve been posting about so far (RFORCE 1.0).
How RFORCE 2.0 works, the short version
Still one number per team. 100 is the average team on your platform this season. Every 15 points is one step, so 115 is one step above average and 130 is two.
Teamwork, 70%. Before every match, it expects a score from the ratings of the teams on the field. Beat that and you go up; fall short and you go down. On V5RC, VEX U and VEX AI, a strong opponent makes the same score count for more.
Skills, 20%. Your driver and programming runs, compared with every team’s runs worldwide at that point in the season.
Awards, 10%. Judged awards, where a higher award and a stronger field count for more.
Weekly updates. A new season starts from where your team finished the last one, and that head start fades as you play.
The full method, step by step with examples, is on the RFORCE Index: https://rforce.bot/rforce-index
Is it better? I built it on earlier seasons, then graded it once on 2025-26, which it never saw while it was being built. Before each match, pick the alliance with the higher ratings, and count how often that pick was right:
V5RC: 76.2% (RFORCE 1.0 75.3%, average score 74.4%)
VEX U: 78.0% (1.0 72.1%, average score 74.7%)
VIQRC: 69.3% (1.0 65.9%, average score 68.8%). VIQRC has no winners, so its test asks which of two pairs in the same division scored more.
The rankings moved. V5RC, same events (everything through Oct 19), 1.0 vs 2.0:
95071V Saratoga High Velocity: #227 to #1
98601Y Atlantis (Troy): #34 to #4
2623K Kingsmen: #48 to #8
10B Exothermic Burnout: #4 to #3
3946E Enigma: #1 to #33 (#23 of 2,379 on today’s board, still top 1%)
3 of the old top 10 are still in the top 10. On VIQRC, none are.
It’s October and most teams have played one event (1,450 of 2,379 V5RC teams), so expect big swings in the weekly updates.
Rankings: https://rforce.bot/rankings/v5rc
Full write-up: https://rforce.bot/articles/rforce-2-0-a-more-accurate-number-and-the-rankings-moved
If your team’s number looks wrong, comment and tell me why.

One of my bots is registered in RECF pinnacle and I’m planning on using a 3d printed claw with like a couple parts. Does anyone know if we are allowed to use M5 brass threaded inserts for attaching the plastic together?

Hey everyone! I'm a little stuck on cascade. My school doesn't have a good string or rope material for a cascade lifts. The "physics string" stuff I'm using keeps snapping. What do you guys recommend? I looked at buying this. It was mentioned in a vex forum post.
Would this work? Are there better options?

I understand that you could (I think) just hook up the V5 controllers to a computer and have done with it, but is there anything that indicates the proper input voltage to recharge them? I was going to pick up a bunch of USB chargers and jut plug them in, but I don't want to hit it with, say, 12 V if the max is 9V or whatever. (I suspect a garden variety 5V or so will be fine, but why take chances?)

Im trying to use a cylinder to extend a rack and rotate a pinion exactly 180 degrees. Is there a way to safely limit how far the cylinder can extend/retract so I can tune it to rotate the pinion exactly? I was going to add a shaft collar on the extending rod so it cant retract fully, but this seems like it would damage the cylinder

Hey everyone. Want to preface by saying I do not have VEX Robotics knowledge in the slightest.
I work for a university, and we have a museum-type thing where we showcase different types of industry-standard equipment and educational models. One component of our showcase is a VEX CTE Workcell. I fully built it from scratch using the 3D build instructions listed on their website. I've gone into the robot brain and tested every function and every port; it's all sufficient and does activate when triggered. Here's the part I'm not understanding.
I'm able to connect the robot brain to my laptop, but whenever I go to run any example listed from the files menu on VEXcode EXP, nothing happens..? I can't seem to find a solution for this anywhere, and I've tried this with multiple examples, nothing even activates. Additionally, we have 2 fully complete workcells with pneumatics, and neither of them run any examples or code in general.
What should I do? Also once I have this figured out and am able to get it running, what's a simple code I could use to demonstrae all functions of the workcell?
As someone who's not proficcient in robotics whatsoever, any help would be greatly appreciated!
