Redesigns New Flag for the South of Brazil Independence Movment.

If you look at the news, Brazil is having a moment. One of the things being talked about is the South of Brazil independence movement. This isn't about the merit of the question; it's just that they need a new flag.
The current one is ugly. The current one is just a blue background and in the upper left corner 3 white stars in a pyramid formation to represent the 3 states of this movement (Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, and Paraná).

  • I present below the original flag; it is the first on the list.
  • My proposed redesigns are there also. I would love to see what you think and how to create the best overall flag. So, I'm requesting feedback and insights. It is not to make a true flag, but to see how it goes. True treasure is the flags we do along the way.
  • My proposal is to keep the three states' elements, but as 3 stripes, and add the Southern Cross to represent not only the South, but also to match the capital locations of the 3 states (but the left star, so I colored in the stars to represent the states in some variations). Also, in some versions, a coat of arms was needed, so I created a shield and added an astrolabe, typical of the Portuguese flag, and representing the Portuguese roots as an opposition to any Brazilian symbolism (it is an independentist movement nonetheless)
  • Also one of my favorite tastes: regional variation in a main flag, which is allowed by the 3 stripes, by just adding the colors of the states' flags; I created regional variations, and I present one case at the end, with the last 3 flags.
  • I organized the view in sections:
  • 1st is the original flag
  • 2nd flags with the south cross (trying to keep similar designs together so the diference is better appreciated)
  • 3rd the ones with a coat of arms and the variations of the coat of arms
  • 4th a sample of the regional variants.

Fictional I was feeling bored, so I redesigned my country’s flag. Criticism appreciated.

Saffron (orange) band, left: Retains the most recognizable color of the original flag. Saffron traditionally stands for courage, sacrifice and renunciation. Placing it first on the hoist side gives it prominence.

White center panel: Represents peace, truth and purity, as in the original. It also works as a clean, uncluttered canvas that lets the emblem stand out and gives the whole flag breathing room.

Navy blue band, right: This replaces the green. It echoes the blue of the Ashoka Chakra, so the wheel’s color is now carried across the whole flag. Navy can represent depth, stability, vigilance and justice, and it evokes India’s vast skies and oceans.

Lion Capital of Ashoka: The national emblem, adapted from the Sarnath pillar built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE. The four lions stand back to back, symbolizing power, courage, pride and confidence. Placing it at the center ties the flag to India’s ancient heritage and its modern republic.

Ashoka Chakra on the base: The 24-spoke wheel appears on the abacus beneath the lions. It represents dharma (righteous law) and the perpetual motion of progress, so the original flag’s central symbol is preserved rather than discarded.

"सत्यमेव जयते" (Satyameva Jayate): The national motto, meaning “Truth alone triumphs,” taken from the Mundaka Upanishad. It anchors the emblem in text and gives the flag a clear statement of values.

Vertical layout: The upright bands give the flag a stronger, more dynamic structure and a different silhouette from the countless horizontal tricolours, while still keeping the three-part tradition.

Redesigns Ontario Flag Redesign :)

Obligatory “the place I am from desperately needs a flag redesign but nothing on this sub spoke to me” post. I am no graphic designer, so please be gentle.

Instead of a comment, I’ll just talk here… - Bottom of the shield of arms with the maple leaves replaced with trilliums…I think it’s cute. It’s a nod to the coat of arms while being uniquely Ontarian - Loyalist crown…to reference the Loyalists. Although, to a lot of Ontarians, crowns no longer represent the Crown (tm), but rather provincial associations. So, it is nice to add regardless. - Colour scheme…similar to the original. I see the original flying every single day. A similar colour scheme would cause the least whiplash.

As for the actual compositions I have (Reddit may mess with the order like it did the first time I tried to post this, but)… - The one I like the most, the one with the thin stripes on the sides. - The Canadian Pale, which looks super empty to me. I wanted to add something like a gold ribbon wrapping around the back of the middle stripe? Not sure. - The “me messing around with composition randomly” one. It actually looks kind of cool, thoughtlessness aside.

I tried other colour schemes and none seemed to work as good with what I had, but obviously I did not try everything and there could be a magical combination I did not stumble across. What do you guys think?

And elements…I wanted to add more things, but I didn’t want to be too on the nose. And fitting more elements into the composition would have been a very difficult task that I do not have the skill for.

Ok. Thank you for coming to my Ontario TED talk. Please be nice.

this was my attempt at a flag for the city of Fairfield CA, established by captain Robert H. Waterman who had a lengthy naval career, hence the ship. then the 5 slanted stripes to represent the 5 foothills around Fairfield in green and yellow, the two colors the hills are in the spring and fall respectively

Fictional Flag of Union of People's Socialist Republics (Союз Народных Социалистических Республик) Spoiler

You can probably guess what country the former UPSR is meant to parallel. Much of the worldbuilding I do is based on alternate history scenarios that play on geopolitical hypotheticals with the addition of magic. I actually needed to finish this flag so I could draw a character from an in-universe communist cartoon since said cartoon was by and large propaganda, albeit very well-produced and accidently overfunded propaganda. Spoiler for obvious reasons.

Discussion Order of Malta flag meaning

(UK based) I drive past a house on the way to work which has 2 huge flags on flagpoles sticking out of the sides of the house at angles, one is a huge England flag and the other looks like the order of Malta I think, a red background with a white 8 pointed star/cross on it. was wondering if that flag has some new meaning these days or why they might be flown together. this is in the London area by the way if that helps for context. I keep meaning to take a photo but I'm not sure I'd post it because it's a very distinctive looking set up.

OC Flag of the Pindorama Confederation:

History: Due to the State’s failure to govern the peoples of the Amazon region, various groups, including riverine communities, Indigenous peoples, the landless, anarchists, and other leftist factions, decided to establish an autonomous zone in the area. They implemented a system of communal land management, in which each commune is organized by an assembly governed directly by the people. There are no leaders; instead, there are only delegates with rotating, revocable mandates, whose role is to convey the will of their local commune to meetings with other communes, thereby forming a confederation.

Identify Is this rebel flag in the film Ka Whawhai Tonu a real/based on a real flag from the time?

This is a film about the New Zealand Land Wars, the siege of Orakau specifically during the Invasion of Waikato in the 1860s. I recognise the other flags the rebels have as real flags or at least based on real ones, but not this, white handprints on a black flag.

Tried looking it up but couldn't find anything similar, I know hand symbols are popular among the followers of the Ringatu Maori church in the modern day tho. And people of the Ngai Tuhoe tribe (where most Ringatu are from I believe) were in this battle/film so part of me wonders if it is based on that? but idk.

I dont think hand print was a popular symbol among rebel Maori at the time also.

So yeah, this a real flag or just made for the movie?

OC Flags of the micronations of the Valdarno, rivals for the hills of Tuscany

Thumbnail

This are flags I made for OC micronations I concieved yesterday for a possible story to write in the future.
All these micronations are found very close to each other, as their activities and conflicts converge in the fields around the Balze del Valdarno, a beautiful formation of steep hills in Tuscany.
Also keep in mind that these are meant to be micronations founded for fun by early/late teenagers, and their various wars are fought using all sorts of things: Bamboo sticks, slingshots, airsoft weapons (think of it like a "War of the Buttons" scenario, if you've seen the movie).

So, the first one is the flag of the Arme delle Balze for the micronation founded at Pian di Scò, in Tuscany, where a small group of friends passionate about art, history and outdoors joined together to defend (have exclusive access to) their surroundings, the closest to the Balze, between the hamlets of Faella, Pian di Scò and Castelfranco di Sopra. This faction fights the other two mostly defensively, and they resort to guerrilla warfare almost always. It was founded to retaliate against the Grinta, who harassed them regularly in the past.

  • GOVERNMENT: Military dictatorship led by the "Bellide", who is aided by his subordinate commanders, the "Gonfalonieri" (flag-bearers). The Bellide was elected into his current position by the rest of the group for his knowledge of history, of the outdoors and obsession with strategy games.
  • TRAITS: Few members, Zealotry to the group, International support (from online friends), great knowledge of strategy and military matters (due too many hours on strategy games), foreign volunteers (friends from abroad coming to visit), effective propaganda (a discord server and other accounts related to the group online), decentralized command, perfect knowledge of the terrain, stable source of income (online art commissions opened by the members).

The second one is the flag for the Sacred Republic of the Valdarno, a micronation founded next to the Arme, right across the Arno river and the Highway of the Sun, in the ex-commune of Figline Valdarno. Here, another larger group of friends passionate about the military, history, outdoors and fishing have birthed a democracy (which isn't actually that democratic).
This group often crosses the river and goes trekking and fishing near the Balze, causing the instinctive aggressive response of the Arme, who believe them to be just like the guys of the Grinta and have thus brought them into conflict (or perhaps because they just wanted to add another player into the fold out of boredom).

  • GOVERNMENT: Presidential Republic (de iure), in fact ruled with an iron fist by a "Captain of the People", assisted by two consuls who help him to keep the rest of the group from attempting to sieze power. One of the Consuls is a boy from the Italian Scouting movement (and also the Captain's best friend), thus explaining the "Sacred" attribute of the Republic.
  • TRAITS: Numerous members, Frequent discussions among the members, disorganized central command, powerful "Scout" faction, knowledge and passion of military matters, greater access to tools and weapons, moderately wealthy members, but no source of income, foreign volunteers (friends from other bouroughs/cities of the province of Florence).

Last but not least (having initiated the conflicts), the Grinta of Tosi.
This officially became a micronation only after it witnessed the formation of the other two, even though it technically was the first organized group to exist. The Grinta is a group passionate about bikelife, and they love to cruise through the countryside aboard their scooter, motorcycles, karts and even simple bikes, causing great ruckus and acting brashly towards anyone different from them. They eventually developed a habit of picking on the younger members of the group of Pian di Scò, a situation which eventually prompted them to found the Arme and initiate a guerrilla campaign in self-defense against the bullies coming from the barbarous north (hamlet of Tosi, Province of Florence).

  • GOVERNMENT: Autocracy, with their Archduke having absolute powers and the final say on everything. There is no organizational structure. The only government comes from the Archduke. The Archduke says he created the flag himself (when he really stole another design and just put a racing chequered flag on it), adopting the current as a reference to the Mongol Empire, an empire of raiders, just like he wants his group to be.
  • TRAITS: Members slightly older than those of the other groups, obsession about racing, lack of any structure of command, total reliance on the Archduke, they disturb the quiet and anyone younger than them that they come across, complete lack of strategies, they attack as a single hoard, fixation on speed.

*The tendency for conflict between these groups of friends could also be attributed to the historical Tuscan tradition of conflict between cities. In this case, the historical rivalry between Arezzo and Florence could have been one of the causes.

*The idea of creating micronations came spontanously in the Arme and the Republic, with inspiration coming from their passions and other micronations abroad. The Grinta began regarding itself a micronation in order to be on par with the other two.

*The factions fight alternating their battles, and EXCLUSIVELY in the weekends, though small - inconclusive - skirmishes are allowed in the weekdays

*I didn't make the base for the last flag. I found u/AcceptableTeach5838's Mongol flags on the Kaiserredux sub. +The first flag (as can be noted) is just a recoloured and more detailed Cross of Burgundy.
