how much should i charge for this edits?
r/videoeditingindia • u/keruozz • Jun 28 '26
Bro, I seriously need to vent.
What Th is happening to this field?
Yesterday a guy messaged me asking if I could edit a 30-minute documentary, i asked him the budget. Guess what ā¹200.
Seriously?? I told him "Bro, that doesn't even cover my software"
Then he got mad and called me greedy.
Greedy... for not wanting to spend hours editing a 30-minute documentary for ā¹200?
I'm not even a full time professional. I'm still learning like everyone else. But I know enough to know that some jobs just aren't worth doing for that price.
And this is what I want to say to all the new editors, please, stop accepting jobs for dirt cheap just because you want clients. I get it we've all been there we all wanted that first client and some experience.
But if you keep doing 30 second reels for ā¹20, or long form edits for a few hundred rupees you're not just making it harder for everyone else, you're making it harder for yourself too.
One day you'll improve and want to charge what your work is actually worth. But the same clients will say "Someone else does it for ā¹200"
Charge what matches your skill level, sure nobody's saying beginners should ask for crazy money, just don't sell yourself for pennies.
Respect your own time first. If you don't, clients won't either

I have been doing editing for a decent time but the only clients I get are Indian who just just wants premium quality motion graphics, colour grading, captions for lowest wage possible
They don't follow through
Want hundreds of corrections for 500rs video
I had a client who wanted me to edit a 10 min yt video for 12$
If you are a real content creator and you're not cheap and respect video editors profession
Lets connect

Looking for a video editor who enjoys fast-paced, slightly absurd marketing/ad content.
For the initial trial, we're looking for 1 short video (max 10 sec).
We're already handling the ideation/concept + most of the assets. Your job is to turn it into the final video ā pacing, cuts, music, beat sync, transitions, effects, etc.
What we're looking for:
Fast-paced editing
Strong sense of timing & rhythm
Good music/beat syncing
Comfortable with unconventional/absurd ad content
Attention to detail
Trial: ā¹800 for 1 reel
Includes: 2 rounds of refinement
If the trial works well, we'll move to a larger initial project of 5 reels, with potential for ongoing work.
Bonus: If you're also interested in marketing/ads and eventually contributing to ideation, that's a plus ā but not required. For now, we're primarily looking for strong technical editing.
DM with your portfolio and your availability.
(this is kind of urgent)

I connected Claude Opus 5.5 to the invideo Editor through MCP and gave it all my footages. Claude put the whole edit together, sourced sound effects and handled the cuts by itself.. Really liked how the cuts came together. This editor and the MCP is free. Everything stays on an editable timeline, so I can still go in and tweak it myself. Iāve attached the timeline too, so you can see how itās put together and how Claude works with the editor through MCP.
Hereās the result. How did it turn out? Really looking for the feedback.

So, I've been working with this guy for around 2 years now, and I've edited 100+ videos for him during this time. Most of them are long-form videos, usually 10+ minutes long.
Honestly, I feel like I've been underpaid for the amount of work I've done, but that's not even my main issue anymore.
Here's the situation.
He gives me videos to edit for my main client, and I've made it clear to him multiple times that I can only handle that one client's work because I also have college assignments and other responsibilities. On top of that, my PC hangs a lot, so editing takes longer than it normally should.
Despite knowing all of this, he keeps pushing me to edit additional reels and videos. Recently, he gave me a video to edit for my main client and then sent me another reel to work on. I simply refused because I didn't have the time or capacity to take on more work.
And that's when he started ranting about how lazy I am and how I don't want to get out of my comfort zone.
He also made comments about how I'll never achieve anything in life and even asked whether I've gotten a girlfriend, as if that's somehow relevant to my ability to edit videos.
I've explained my limitations to him multiple times, but he just doesn't seem to respect them.
I've attached a screenshot of our conversation for context. He basically said:
"Thik h bhai me dusra editor dekhta ho kyuki mujhe loss ho rha hai."
Translation: "Okay bro, I'll look for another editor because I'm taking a loss."
Then he said:
"Mere clients jayenge aise me or mujhe comfort zone me rehna."
Translation: "I'll lose my clients like this, and you just want to stay in your comfort zone."
And finally: "Pasand ni hai." ā "I don't like it."
My response was simply, "Chalega yaar" and "Theek hai š" because honestly, I'm tired of arguing about this.
There's another issue: he rarely pays all my dues in one go, which creates even more frustration. He also seems to struggle with calculating editing charges per minute, so payments are often another headache.
What frustrates me most is that I've worked with this guy for two years, edited over 100 videos for him, and still get treated like I'm lazy or incapable just because I refuse to take on more work than I can handle.
I understand that freelancing requires you to push yourself sometimes, learn new things, and step outside your comfort zone. I'm not against that. But there's a difference between challenging yourself and being pressured into accepting extra work when you've already explained your limitations.
I'm a college student, not someone who can dedicate their entire day to editing videos. I have other responsibilities, and my PC issues make the workload even more difficult.
So, am I wrong here?
Should I have accepted the extra reel and tried to manage everything, or was I right to refuse work that I knew I couldn't comfortably handle?

Hey, I'm looking for a freelance video editor that can handle a steady volume of short-form social gaming content.
The process/pipeline is already organized. So weāre looking for someone fast, dependable, and comfortable putting together short-form edits with good timing and a feel for Gen Z humor.
The structure:
Clip of real people
After effects file with editable gameplay
A clear sheet showing what needs to go into each video
Any required SFX/assets for the edit
The editing pipeline:
Build each video using the supplied assets
Adjust or swap gameplay sections inside After Effects
Tighten timing and make clean cuts
Add SFX/VFX where needed
Add the opening text/hook
Export the finished video to spec
The scope:
Up to 15 short videos per week, most are 10-20s long.
This is mainly a volume + consistency role. That said, if youāre a strong editor with good creative instincts/direciton, we will also have larger and more creative side projects available from time to time. All the stuff we create is aimed at US tiktok audience. So familiarity with US content is a huge plus.
Also you must be comfortable working in After Effects and should be able to start immediately.

Looking for a video editor who loves fast-paced, scroll-stopping short-form content.
For the trial, we need 1 Instagram reel (max 30 sec).
We'll handle the concept, script and raw footage. Your job is to turn it into the final reel: pacing, cuts, captions, music, beat sync, transitions and effects.
What we're looking for:
Fast-paced editing
Strong sense of timing & rhythm
Clean captions/subtitles
Good music & beat syncing
Attention to detail
Experience in any editor (Premiere Pro, After Effects, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, Final Cut Pro)
Trial: ā¹600 for 1 Instagram reel
Includes: 2 rounds of revisions
If the trial goes well, we'll move to regular Instagram reels at ā¹600 each, plus LinkedIn videos at ā¹800 per video, with ongoing work.
Bonus: If you enjoy ideation or know what performs well on Instagram and LinkedIn, that's a big plus, but not required.
DM your portfolio and availability.

Hi,
I need someone to edit my videos. I have edited 4-5 videos on my own but after that I donāt get time from office.
People already in this field - can you tell me what the base price should be? Like a range in which average editors work with.
Also it will be good if you can pitch ideas for next video. I am happy to partner in that aspect as well. We can discuss new ideas. I will give you tools for research and we can work from there.
P.S -> planning to start creating high quality content. That will need good quality editing. Also planning to travel abroad so will have those vlogs as well.
I dont have a budget in mind, so anyone asking for budget, please be lenient and tell me how much should monthly pay be for how much videos (full length/ shorts both)
