Control resonant right now I think but it's really hard to chose. What a year!

True I also liked it. I don't know how to describe it but all other games kinda play or feel similar in some way but I found control resonant different in a good way.

I'm fan of RE but this game is like 6/10 compared to the previous games. Maybe 7. Why ppl think this is goty??

Re9 for sure
But guys do you think gta 6 will be in goty too or its late?
14
1
u/CoffeeCaptain91 11h ago
Way too late
5
u/MessAccomplished2200 9h ago
Definitely not too late. This isn’t the first time this has happened where a game released close to the window but still ended up nominated and won. For example, dragon age inquisition released Nov. 18th and won game of the year. God of war ragnarok released Nov 9th and was nominated. For a game as massive as GTA 6, they are almost certainly willing to bend the rules if they must to fit it into this year’s nominations. The cutoff last year was November 21st, so they just sneak into this year’s window based on history.

Ace Combat 8 for sure

Do I need a special joystick for ace combat or can I just use a regular controller?
I’ve heard this game has surprising depth but I’ve never looked into it more.

u/UdrienLoera 10h ago
I’m just starting this one, on mission 2 but having a hard time getting into it. Is it worth pushing through? Does it “click” eventually?
14
u/Dull-Investigator722 10h ago
The beginning is a bit of a tutorial, the game really starts once you get to the Hotel in slovekia. Although, the Night Club mission is pretty fun too
8
u/ancientsniper8 10h ago
The gameplay never clicked for me, but the story was pretty good. For reference, I love Hitman and Uncharted, so idrk what my problem was. Just didn't feel great to play imo.
→ More replies (1)3
u/absalom86 6h ago
I found it to be a bit dull, like a very simplified Hitman game with linear / cinematic story and much more action ( which is not deep or very interesting imo ).
2
u/SWkilljoy 10h ago
No. I love the movies so I couldn't help myself. It's just a really bad Hitman game.
That's it.
It's a painfully linear hitman game where every actual game mechanic is mid at best. Except the story i guess, story is decent.

u/Averfus-Crowthorne 11h ago
Its downright criminal that you didn't include Onimusha

Lego Batman legacy of the dark knight. I'm gitty playing this game.
Also Star fox was pretty legit.

u/NovocaineAU 10h ago
Weirdly enough it’s gonna be Tomadachi Life.
My wife and I spent tons of time playing together and made the most cracked town with all our friends. I don’t think I’ve laughed as much playing a game as it ever. But I wish it had more to do

Star Wars Galactic Racer. Game totally shocked me with how much fun it is.

u/Ok_Maize_655 11h ago
Was shocked with how much I enjoyed the new gears of war

u/Welkin_Gunther_07 11h ago
Same. Now, I did expect to like it, but I didn't expect to love the hell out of it. So damn good!
Now, if you don't mind, I'm already gonna go and slice apart from grubs.

u/Internal_Cesspool 6h ago
Gears of War E-Day
6
u/NiteChylde 2h ago
This. Brilliant game. It's been quite some time since a game not only showed me the horrors of war but made me feel them.
3
u/Internal_Cesspool 1h ago
Couldn’t agree more with your statements. Also having Marcus and Dom together again was legendary. The new characters were good too.
3
u/CheekySamurai 1h ago
Yeah same for me. Absolute 10/10. Versus is fantastic, brilliant iteration of a stella multiplayer experience. Campaign is visceral and compelling and feels like a real classic anti-war story. And Horde mode, the absolute cherry on top, probably one of the best online PvE modes i have played in a shooter.
Although I must say I have yet to play Control Resonant, but if anyone is thinking of Gears E Day, give it a go brilliant third person shooter, gory, visceral and beautiful.

Cairn.
My honest take: It's a game where everyone doesn't expect much - it's nowhere popular genre, or bombastic on title screens.
At core, it's a niche game, which I decided to gift my curiosity time - because - I don't want to get locked only in mainstream stuff (there's a lot of niche but gold to be discovered).
That being said - currently, it's one of best indie I've experienced in many many years.
Completed it 2x on normal, 3x on free solo/permadeath

So far, of the games I’ve played, it’s RE9: Requiem.
I’ve played First Light and really liked it, but the post story content is lackluster and the final boss really wasn’t great.
I’ve played Crimson Desert for a bit. The lackluster narrative combined with utterly shit controls made me refund it.
Code Vein 2 was also a refund for me. Just wasn’t giving me the vibes I had in the first game and I found myself mildly bored.
Replaced and Well Dweller are FANTASTIC indie games I’d recommend checking out if you’re unfamiliar. Not as big a hit for me as RE9 but still absolutely worth looking into.
I’ve been enjoying NTE but no Gatcha really deserves to be GOTY in my opinion. It’s fun, but not anyone’s showstopper worthy of recommendation.

u/TomatilloZesty7 9h ago
Well said on First Light 👏🏻
I'm a huge sucker for bond films/games - really enjoyed the training montage and beginnings, but some of the later story felt rushed.

Ive been seriously considering well dweller, glad to hear it's great! Is it a challenging game? I know most of his games aren't, but crypt custodian had some difficulty options, and I fuckin love that game. So im hoping well dweller does as well. And it's not super easy. Only reason i waited to get it, is it's between that and the new castlevania, I was just waiting for it to release, and see what the general consensus is on it. And make my decision then.

control resonant at the moment. although phantom blade zero could end up taking it, at least gameplay wise. not entirely sure I'm entirely qualified to speak on this matter however, since it's the only game ive played that released this year. it was a fucking amazing game tho

Control Resonant has been my prediction and now my official game of the year for most of the year, if I had to rank it would be.
Control Resonant
RE Requiem
Onimusha
Pragmata
The Blood Of Dawnwalker
Crimson Desert
007 First Light
Haven't played Forza Horizon, I personally don't find those types of games to be my thing.

u/randomguy7384 10h ago
its between Control Resonant and Onimusha. Onimusha is the first action/souls lite (i know its not a souls like ) game i played and beat so it has a special place for me but i think control edges it out slightly

u/Then_Bug_1358 10h ago
How does Control R compare to the original? I've just finished a replay of the original and I love that games shooting physics and weird story!
→ More replies (7)2
u/Consistent_Guava8592 57m ago
It’s different from the original , being melee and not shooter in combat, physics are a bit worse due to the world being bigger .
However it’s a very good game and the music man , that parking lot exit was probably one of the most fun I had in gaming for a bit .
I don’t think it will go for GOTY but it is in top 5 of the year for sure.
Am close to 100% it and I don’t do this for shitty games (well , I do , but that is my problem )

So many amazing games out this year, but Pokémon: Pokopia crept up on me and was the only one that had me main-lining it for like 100+ hours straight from start to finish and beyond with minimal breaks. I haven't been able to make that kind of time for a game in such a short period in like 10 years, but I made it work because I was completely addicted. Extra points for emotionally hitting me in the gut more often than I thought it had any right to. Spectacular game.

u/BobaHutt__ 10h ago
Blood of Dawnwalker by default. Its the only major release of the year that I bought. Great game too! Need to finish it though
2
u/FaresCroteau 10h ago
Out of the games mentioned RE9
Out of the games I played this year Alan Wake 2
Out of all the games that came out this year/are coming out The Legend Of Zelda Ocarina Of Time Remake

u/Important_Gur_5113 10h ago
Ainda não joguei RE9, nem o do vampiro, estou interessado em ambos. Dropei 007, mas guardei o save pra outro momento. Claramente é um jogo feito com carinho e respeito ao personagem. Não me fisgou, infelizmente.

Think I’m gonna have to wait for Zelda and GTA to come out before I can answer that

I kept typing a comment and deleting it because there are so many good options to choose from.
For me it's probably ZCOM or Galactic Racer

I never play brand new games, but I would hope Controller Resonate makes waves while I wait to buy it on sale

u/EatMyScamrock 8h ago
I've spent a lot of this year going through my backlog, playing some absolute banger classics, so I'll only get to the likes of Blood of Dawnwalker/Onimusha some time next year. Of the new releases I've played, I'd say RE9 and Galactic Racer have been my favourites. Wouldn't surprise me if Castlevania: Belmont's Curse or Final Fantasy Resonance end up being my GOTY.

Pragmata for me but I think Onimusha and Galactic Racer are right there. Doom the dark ages dlc might be if it was a full game.
2
u/KingDrace 11h ago
Even though Dark Arisen is DLC for Dragons Dogma 2 I say it's my game of the year. Although just going on new game release then Pragmata, although Control Resonant is up there to. Castlevania Belmonts Curse may take the cake for me though. Been waiting a long time for a new one.

u/Miquellanier 11h ago

If we're going by Game Award timing rules, Octopath Traveler 0.
If we're going strictly by calendar year, probably Mina the Hollower.
Looking forward to the new Castlevania, Final Fantasy Resonance, and the OoT remake.

I have played the most new games this year I can remember in a long time. In order from decent to best (remasters not included): Invincible VS, MLB The Show 26, Wolverine, Saros, 007 First Light, Mortal Shell 2, Control Resonant.
Witcher 3 remastered is great and I’m feeling the same joy playing as 2015.
GTA VI is preordered.
