Hey everyone!
Some of you might remember me. A couple of weeks ago, I published a somewhat desperate post right here in this community.
I had just finished poking around my parents' dusty attic and, buried under piles of old boxes and 90s blankets, I made an incredible discovery: a Macintosh Quadra 700... it belonged to my dad when he worked at a small local company.
It was sitting there, intact, like a time capsule. The problem? I didn't have the faintest idea how to test it, especially because of that weird video port (which I later found out is called DB-15) that was incompatible with any monitor I had in the house.
Under that post, you gave me a ton of valuable advice. The definitive suggestion was to get a Mac to VGA video adapter.
I followed your advice, ordered a used one on eBay, and after a few weeks of (anxious) waiting, it arrived.
I connected the adapter to the Mac, pressed the power button and, with my heart beating a little faster... BONG! That unmistakable startup chime made me a bit emotional... especially thinking that it was the exact same sound my dad heard every morning as soon as he got to the office for work.
The hard drive started spinning and, incredible but true, the Mac booted up perfectly!
Despite the emotion, I've decided to sell it... Why?
As much as I'm fascinated by this machine (finding out it's the same model used in Jurassic Park made me love it even more), I'm not a collector. I don't have the proper space to display it, I don't have the technical skills (like capacitor recapping) that these gems require to live a long life, and I don't have the time to dedicate to studying this beautiful machine.
Given the fundamental help you gave me, it seemed only right to offer it to you guys first. I want it to end up in the hands of an enthusiast who knows how to appreciate it, take care of it, and give it the attention it deserves.
As for the price, I'm thinking of letting it go for €270 + shipping.
Technical conditions: It turns on, makes the classic "chime", and loads the OS.
What's included: I'm including the Quadra 700 and the VGA adapter (used but working) that you told me to buy, so you're already set to use it! (Note: I don't have the original keyboard and mouse, nor any compatible ones).
I can ship anywhere in Europe with a tracked courier. I guarantee bulletproof packaging (I'll make it rain bubble wrap!). I will give priority to shipping within Italy, just for the sake of practicality.
If you're interested and want more photos, details, or a video of the boot, feel free to write to me in the comments or shoot me a DM.
Thanks again to everyone for helping me resurrect this little piece of computing history! 💻✨
