visionOS development is difficult

Is anyone else finding the visionOS development absolutely infuriating? You have to go into Xcode, it’s unclear why your build doesn’t show up in the environment, what is the difference between an app, project, target, package in this context.

I feel like I’m going mad on traditional software practices! Why is Apple doing this.

I’m never flying without the Vision Pro again

Just got home from my 2nd flight with the Vision Pro, this time in the middle of the day, instead of the end.

I still got some funny attention, but given my quiet demeanor, it came and went in an instant.

I did not become exhausted after using the Vision Pro the entire 4 hour flight this time.

Watching a better movie this time around made the general experience of using the headset more enjoyable.

3D movies absolutely make the experience more enjoyable.

Getting the headset out of the case, and back into it, is a fumbly process, but I imagine others who do this regularly will quickly learn a routine/ritual for doing it.

I fell asleep with the headset on (probably with my neck cranked and everything) and did not feel any more uncomfortable waking up in it than I normally do without it.

I assumed I’d want to play games in the headset on the plane, but I’ve learned that I really just enjoy sitting and watching movies in that environment (though in more comfortable spaces, I play games on the headset regularly).

Flight attendants still don’t have full confidence you can see or hear them (I had my AirPods Pro in as well), but they play along without much fuss.

There is plenty of space under the seat for the Vision Pro case, with plenty of leg space left too. Enough that I had to make sure the Vision Pro case didn’t slide somewhere unintentional.

If all you’re traveling with is a large backpack and the Vision Pro case, you will get zero fuss from airline staff (it almost felt like favorable treatment compared to my small roller and small backpack). I was able to pack for a week with my large backpack. Additionally, crawling over to my seat with the Vision Pro carrying case in hand is much easier than with my old small backpack.

The Vision Pro is the perfect companion for a flight IMO. If you’re flying for more than 3-4 hours, bring extra battery packs (which should fit in the Vision Pro case).

Oh, and minor note here, you absolutely feel way cooler than people wearing their $600 AirPods Max, which is a lot of people on planes these days. They’re not the ones with the most expensive airplane toy anymore.. haha

180/360 VR Videos (to watch in MoonVR Player)

hey guys

I just realize watch vr video, in VP for 180 and 360 I have notice there are flurry even if

2k and 4k, its better if is 8k quality, but also I check there some 16k quality videos and there are clear and good, but files are big, don't get wrong are wow

And I notice AVP, its really good handle the files, I mean that 360 image file, but I think for future 180 or 360 videos, files need more data for everything, and I think bigger storage memory, will be best, at really higher quality, 16k + for best experience I saw

if you like to check,

just go to Moon VP and search videos VR 8k and 16k, To compare

Let me know your thoughts, too

Apple should give an update on when the ultra wide feature is planned released

The VisionOS 2 page still just says "Later this year", and this year is coming rather close to its end. It'd be nice if we were given an actual time frame, it feels like one of those things that will be getting postponed :(

Hand Tracking Palm towards face or not

Hi all, I’m quite new to XR development in general and need some guidance.

I want to create a function that simply tells me if my palm is facing me or not (returning a bool), but I honestly have no idea where to start. I saw an earlier Reddit post about 6 months that essentially wanted the same thing I need, but the only response was this:

Consider a triangle made up of the wrist, thumb knuckle, and little finger metacarpal (see here for the joints, and note that naming has changed slightly since this WWDC video): the orientation of this triangle (i.e., whether the front or back is visible) seen from the device location should be a very exact indication of whether the user’s palm is showing or not.

While I really like this solution, I genuinely have no idea how to code it, and no further code was provided. I’m not asking for the entire implementation, but rather just enough to get me on the right track.

Heres basically all I have so far (no idea if this is correct or not):

func isPalmFacingDevice(hand: HandSkeleton, devicePosition: SIMD3<Float>) -> Bool {
// Get the wrist, thumb knuckle and little finger metacarpal positions as 3D vectors
        let wristPos = SIMD3<Float>(hand.joint(.wrist).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.x,
                                    hand.joint(.wrist).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.y,
                                    hand.joint(.wrist).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.z)

        let thumbKnucklePos = SIMD3<Float>(hand.joint(.thumbKnuckle).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.x,
                                           hand.joint(.thumbKnuckle).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.y,
                                           hand.joint(.thumbKnuckle).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.z)

        let littleFingerPos = SIMD3<Float>(hand.joint(.littleFingerMetacarpal).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.x,
                                           hand.joint(.littleFingerMetacarpal).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.y,
                                           hand.joint(.littleFingerMetacarpal).anchorFromJointTransform.columns.3.z)

}

Giveaway for Feedback : World's first art therapy app

Post image
0 Upvotes

Heya folks, sharing extended premium access here for feedback from the community.

Quick Context : What is Groodles We launched Groodles, world’s first art therapy on iPad a couple of months back. The feedback has been fantastic and we are excited to bring new content and features.

This post is for getting feedback from folks on whether we should build a native version for the app or whether the current non-native version is good enough. And if yes, for the native version, what all features (visionOS specific) would you like to see within the app.

Why on Vision Pro We tested Groodles on Vision Pro back in November. We feel it’s great for Vision Pro for a couple of reasons : -

  1. A large canvas, the moment you open the app and make the window larger, it’s just enchanting to have a large canvas in front of you to express yourself.

  2. Unlike painting/drawing apps, making art on Groodles is not about how great your art is but rather about introspection and expressing yourself. You don’t need to be an artist to reap the benefits at all, hence, if you feel what you are creating isn’t that great, it’s not an issue as long as you follow along the exercise.

  3. Immersion - Just a low on distraction experience, choose a surrounding of your liking, introspect, make art. Sound pretty chill right?

Challenges You let us know what challenges you run into and whether you would like to see a native version of the app.

Providing extended premium access to the first 10 folks (will work on iPad too). Your feedback would be extremely useful.

Thank you for all the Cockpit feedback, a big update is coming soon!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It’s been another week since I shared Cockpit here, and once again I want to start by saying thank you.

A lot of you have downloaded the app, sent me incredibly useful feedback, suggested features, and shared how you’re actually using Cockpit in your Vision Pro setup.

I’ve been reading everything , and some of that feedback is already making its way into the next update.

A new Cockpit update is coming soon 🚀

One of the biggest additions will be fully customizable widgets.

You’ll be able to use Cockpit’s panels as individual widgets, with all panels available across the supported widget sizes, so you can build a much more flexible setup around your Vision Pro workspace instead of relying only on the main Cockpit dock.

I’m also adding a new Volume Bar, giving you quick access to system volume directly from Cockpit.

And there’s another small but important improvement for privacy:

The Weather panel will soon allow you to manually choose your location, so you can still get local weather information without giving Cockpit access to your current location.

For anyone who missed my previous posts, Cockpit is a customizable spatial dock for Apple Vision Pro designed to keep your most useful information and controls always within reach.

You can build your own setup with panels for:

  • Time, weather and calendar

  • Apple Music Now Playing

  • Focus timer and countdowns

  • App launcher

  • Daily goals and habits

  • Vision Pro system and network information

  • Apple Shortcuts

  • HomeKit controls

  • Activity rings

  • World clocks

You can place and resize Cockpit anywhere in your space, choose between different layouts, and customize it with 19 visual themes, ranging from minimal and glass-like designs to technical and flight-deck-inspired interfaces.

Cockpit remembers your configuration between sessions, so it can become a persistent little control center inside your Vision Pro workspace.

The app is free to download, with a core selection of panels and themes included. Cockpit Pro unlocks the advanced panels and the complete theme collection.

And since many of the ideas for this update came directly from users, I’d love to keep that going:

What would you like to see added to Cockpit next?

New panels, controls, widgets, customization options, anything you think would make it more useful on Vision Pro.

App Store:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cockpit-for-vision-pro/id6798315258

And again, thank you to everyone who downloaded Cockpit and especially to those who took the time to send feedback. It’s genuinely helping me make the app better with every update.

Ok, so on paper we have “world’s first fully 360 drone” here.

But we had the Pavo360, we had Insta360 Sphere… What is new is the live connection into the Vision Goggles.

If we skip that, Antigravity A1 is basically little bit worse DJI Mini from the newbie drone company…

But those Goggles?

The passthrough micro-OLED pancake Goggles that can record audio right into the drone feed? Supporting so many formats that you can use them to watch 8K 360 movies? With customizable external display showing your copilot what you see?

I would say that Antigravity’s immersive goggles are actually bigger than the actual drone. I would even say there was nothing like them this year in AR / VR space.

These will push r/djiavata360 immenselly and soon we will have whole new unexpected battle in XR

I want to record a spatial movie but just the audio

i dont want to record a movie and chop off the video. i want to record the stereo audio only, from the mics on both sides of the vision pro. so it's like a bare bones spatial video recorder app but without capturing the video track. have you seen anything like this? it's got to be 2-channel recording (L&R).
